Important Safeguards

CAUTIONS

• Your system is equipped with an IR control. The IR control complies with
part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two
conditions:

1) The IR keyboard may not cause harmful interference.

2) The IR keyboard must accept any interference received, including

interference that may cause undesired operation.

• FCC Regulations state that unauthorized changes or modifications to this
equipment may void the user’s authority to operate it.

1. Read Instructions

All the safety and operating instructions should be read and understood
before the appliance is operated.

2. Object and Liquid Entry

Never push objects of any kind into the keyboard, as these objects may
touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a
electrical shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the keyboard.

3. Damage Requiring Service

The appliance should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:

• Keyboard has fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the appliance; or

• The appliance does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a

marked change in performance; or

• The appliance has been dropped, or the enclosure damaged.

4. Servicing

The user should not attempt to service the appliance beyond that
described in the operating instructions. All other servicing should be
referred to qualified service personnel.

5. Care and Cleaning

Use a soft cloth or dusting attachment of your vacuum cleaner to dust
your keyboard. Plastic surfaces are easily scratched and with excessive
use of oil-based furniture polishes, materials on the keyboard will
accumulate more dust. A non-abrasive, anti-static cleaner / polisher is
recommended.

6. Power Source

This product should be operated only from the type of power source
indicated on the marking label or in the owner’s manual.

Battery Installation

Your keyboard requires 2 new AA alkaline
or zinc-carbon batteries. The battery life
may vary depending on what type of AA
batteries you are using.

1. Remove the battery compartment
door.

2. Insert two AA batteries (included)
matching the batteries to the (+) and
(–) marks inside the battery case.

3. Replace the battery compartment door.

Getting started

Pointing & Operating Range

The keyboard works on line of sight, so if
there are any obstructions between the
keyboard and the TV or receiver, it will seem
like the keyboard isn’t functioning correctly.

Component keys

ON•OFF Turns the device you are controlling on or off.
SAT and AUX Tells the keyboard to control either the satellite

receiver or an auxiliary component. To control the satellite receiver,
press this key by itself. To control an auxiliary component, press the
ALT key and the SAT key at the same time. The keyboard is already
programmed to control an identical second satellite receiver as an
auxiliary component. It must be programmed to control other
auxiliary components.

TV and VCR Tells the keyboard, if programmed, to control either
the TV or VCR. To control the TV, press this key by itself. To control
the VCR, press the ALT key and the TV key at the same time. Most
RCA, GE and ProScan TVs will not require programming. Check to see
if your TV responds from the keyboard before you begin
programming.

Component Function Keys

ANTENNA Lets you switch the source of the video signal from
satellite signals to an off-air antenna or cable signal when using the
OUT TO TV jack. In VCR mode, this key toggles between the TV and
VCR signals if the keyboard is programmed to control the VCR.

Arrows Move the highlight on the screen.
CH- / CH+ Use to scan up and down through the channels in the

current channel list for the active component.
CLEAR / ESC Removes the on screen display to return to normal

viewing.
FETCH In the satellite receiver menu system, this key can be used to

either execute a specific function that you have assigned to it, or to
bring up a list of your favorite functions to choose from. It can be
set to automatically open the Channel Guide, for instance, or bring
up the control panel for the translucency of the displays. This key
will either execute the function you have assigned to it, or it will
bring up the Fetch menu for you to choose a function.

GO BACK Moves you back and forth between your last two
selected channels. In some menu systems, this key returns you to the
previous screen.

GUIDE Brings up the on-screen program guide (if available). Press
the GUIDE key several times to toggle through the different types
of guides.

INFO When you’re watching satellite programming, this key brings
up the on-screen channel banner. Press again to get program
details.

MENU Brings up the Main menu of the active device (if available).
If you are already in the menu system, press RETURN or MENU to
select a highlighted choice.

MUTE When the keyboard is programmed, this button reduces the
volume of the active component (TV or RCA audio device) to its
minimum level. Press again to restore the volume.

PAGE UP / PAGE DOWN Scrolls up and down through guide
content one page at a time.

RETURN & OK Selects the item highlighted on the screen.
REV, PLAY, FWD, REC, STOP & PAUSE These keys operate the

same as on your original remote.

Standard Keyboard Keys (Number, alphabet and symbol keys)
These keys function the same as on a computer keyboard.

VOL- / VOL+ When the keyboard is programmed, these keys
adjust the audio volume of the TV or RCA audio device.

WHO•INPUT In SAT mode, press the WHO•INPUT button one or
more times to toggle through your user profiles. It also accesses the
video input channels when in TV mode.

Interactive Function Keys

Arrows Move the highlight on the screen.
END How this key functions depends on the interactive

application you’re using. To find out how this key works, press
INFO.

GO BACK In interactive mode, this key takes you back to the
previous screen.

HOME How this key functions depends on the interactive
application you’re using. To find out how this key works, press
INFO.

INFO In interactive mode, this key provides additional information
about your current selection.

PAGE UP / PAGE DOWN Scrolls up and down through interactive
or guide content one page at a time.

Red, Green, Yellow and Blue keys Please check with your
program provider for the functionality of these keys.

SEND How this key functions depends on the interactive
application you’re using. To find out how this key works, press
INFO.

Programming your keyboard

Programming the keyboard to control
other components

This keyboard is already programmed to control most RCA, GE and
Proscan TVs, VCRs and cable boxes. The keyboard needs to be
programmed to control other manufacturers’ brands.

Testing the keyboard

To determine whether the keyboard needs to be programmed, turn
on the component you want to control (on the component itself) and
point the keyboard at it. Then, press the key corresponding to that
component. Then press ON•OFF or CH + or CH – (channel up/down) to
see if the component responds to the keyboard commands. If not, the
keyboard needs to be programmed.

NOTE: This keyboard may not operate all models of the brands
that are shown. Use the codes on the following pages to control
these models.

Using Direct Entry

1. Turn on the component you want to control.

2. Look up the brand and code number(s) for the component on
the code list on the following pages.

3. On the keyboard, press and hold the key corresponding to the
component you want to control.

To control your TV: press TV/VCR.
To control your VCR: press TV/VCR.
To control an auxiliary component (such

as a second VCR, CABLE BOX, etc.): press SAT/AUX.

4. Enter the code from the code list.

5. Release the key, and then press ON•OFF to see if the component
responds to the keyboard commands. If it doesn’t, try pressing
the component key and then ON•OFF again.

6. If you get no response, repeat these steps using the next code
listed for your brand, until the component responds to the
keyboard commands.

Using the keyboard to Control
Components

Once the keyboard has been programmed successfully, you are
ready to use it to control your components.

To operate the component:

1. Press the key corresponding to the component (TV, ALT + TV for
VCR, SAT, or ALT + SAT for an auxiliary componenet) to set the
keyboard to control the component.

2. Press ON•OFF to turn the component on or off.

3. Use the keys on the keyboard that apply to that component.

Modes of Operation

Because this keyboard can control several different components
(satellite receiver, VCR, cable box, etc.) it uses operational modes
triggered by the component keys. For example, if you want the
keyboard to control the TV, you would press the TV key to put the
keyboard into TV mode. If you want to control the VCR, you would
press the ALT and TV keys simultaneously.

troubleshooting

If the wireless keyboard is not working properly, check the
following:

• Maybe something is between the keyboard and the infrared
sensor.

• Maybe the keyboard is not in the correct mode to control the
component you want to control. Use the following table as a
guide:

If you want to control... ...press these keys.

TV TV
VCR ALT and TV
Satellite receiver SAT
Auxiliary component ALT and SAT

• Maybe the batteries in the keyboard are weak, dead or
installed incorrectly. Try replacing batteries. (Note, if you
remove the batteries, you may have reprogram the keyboard to
control other components.)

• Remove the batteries and hold the number 1 button for at
least 60 seconds to drain the microprocessor inside the
keyboard. Release the button, replace the batteries, and (if
necessary) reprogram the keyboard.
