IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Some of the following information may not apply to your particular product; however, as with any electronic product, precautions should be observed during handling and use.
• Before using the product, please follow and adhere to all warnings, safety and operating instructions located on the product and in the user book. Save all instructions for future reference.
• Do not expose product to rain and do not use near water; such as, sink, wet basement, swimming pools, etc.
•Always leave sufficient space around the product for ventilation. Do not place product in or on a bed, rug, bookcase or cabinet that may prevent air flow through vent openings.
• Do not expose product to extreme temperatures such as found near a hot radiator or stove, or in a car parked in the Summer sun.
• Connect power cord only to AC power source as marked on the product.
• Some products employ a polarized AC line plug (one blade is wider). This is a safety feature. The plug will go in the power outlet only one way. If the plug doesn’t go into the outlet completely, turn the plug over and put it in the other way. If it still doesn’t fit, contact a qualified electrician to change the outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
• Route power cord to prevent it from being pinched, or walked on, or melted by a hot stove or radiator.
•To clean cabinet, unplug AC power cord, then use a soft cloth dampened only with water.
• Do not place lighted candles, cigarettes, cigars, etc. on the product.
• Unplug AC power cord from outlet during a lightning storm or when product is left unused for a long period of time to prevent damage due to lightning or power line surges.
• Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquids do not spill into the product.

• Use only the manufacturer’s approved mounting instructions and hardware when installing product.
• Do not attempt to disassemble the cabinet. This product does not contain customer serviceable components.
• Do not handle the unit or power cord when your hands are wet or damp.
• Carts and Stands — The appliance should be used only with a cart or stand that is recommended by the manufacturer.
• An appliance and cart combination should be moved with care. Quick stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may cause the appliance and cart combination to overturn.
• Damage Requiring Service–This product should be serviced by qualified service personnel when: A. The power supply cord or the plug has been
damaged; or B. Objects have fallen, or liquid has been spilled into the product; or C. The product has been exposed to rain; or D. The product does not appear to operate normally or exhibits a marked change in performance; or E. The product has been dropped, or the cabinet damaged.
•When service or repairs are completed, ask the service technician to perform the safety check described in the service manual and to confirm that replacement parts have the same safety characteristics as the original parts.
• Overloading - Do not overload the wall outlets, extension cords or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.
IF YOUR PRODUCT OPERATES ON BATTERIES, adhere to the following precautions: A. Any battery may leak electrolyte if mixed with a different battery type, if inserted incorrectly, or if all batteries are not replaced at the same time. B. Any battery may leak electrolyte or explode if disposed of in fire or an attempt is made to charge a battery not intended to be recharged. C. Discard leaky batteries immediately. IF YOUR PRODUCT IS EQUIPPED WITH ANTENNA TERMINALS, and if an outdoor antenna is connected, be sure the system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surge and built-up static charges. An outdoor antenna should be locate away from power lines.
IF PRODUCT IS TO BE CONNECTED TO A CATV SYSTEM, call the CATV system installer’s attention to Article 820-40 of the NEC that provides guidelines for proper grounding and, in particular, specifies that the cable ground shall be connected to the grounding system of the building, as close to the point of cable entry as practical.
Important information
For your safety
The AC power plug is polarized (one blade is wider than the other) and only fits into AC power outlets one way. If the plug will not go into the outlet completely, turn the plug over and try to insert it the other way. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician to change the outlet, or use a different one. Do not attempt to bypass this safety feature.

Safety precautions
• Never open the cabinet under any circumstances. Any repairs or internal adjustments should be made only by a trained technician.
• Never operate this product with the cabinet removed.
• Do not use your System immediately after transporting it from a cold place to a warm place, as condensation may cause the system to malfunction.
• Keep your unit away from humid areas and abnormally hot places.
• Do not touch the player with wet hands. If any liquid enters the player cabinet, take the player to a trained technician for inspection.
• This compact disc player uses a laser to read the music on the disc. The laser mechanism corresponds to the cartridge and stylus of a record player. Although this product incorporates a laser pick-up lens, it is completely safe when operated according to directions.
• Discs rotate at high speed inside the player. Do not use damaged, warped, or cracked discs.
• Do not touch the pick-up lens which is located inside the disc compartment. To keep dust from collecting on the pick-up lens, do not leave the compartment door open for an extended period of time. If the lens becomes dirty, clean it with a soft brush, or use an air blower brush designed for camera lenses.
• The apparatus should not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases, should be placed on the apparatus.
• No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus.
• Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.
• Minimum distances should be kept around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation.
• The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation opening with items, such as newspaper, table-cloths, curtains, etc.
• The rating plate is located at the bottom cabinet of apparatus.
Before you begin
Useful advice
• Do not use your system immediately after transporting it from a cold place to a warm place, as condensation may cause the system to malfunction. If moisture forms inside this system, it may not operate properly. To correct the problem, turn off the power and wait about 30 minutes for moisture to evaporate.
• This system is fitted with a laser. To avoid accidents, it is to be opened by qualified technicians only.
• Never leave the tray open as dust could cover the laser lens and/or the tray could be bumped into accidentally.
• Do not place the system near wet areas such as bathrooms and pool side. Avoid storing the system at humid places or near abnormally heated areas.
• Power is continuously supplied to the system. To disconnect power completely, unplug the power cord from the power outlet.
• Ensure minimum distance around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation.The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspaper, etc.
• No naked flame source, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus.
AC power
Plug the power supply cord into the AC power jack on the back of the unit, and into an AC power supply outlet that accepts the plug supplied with your unit.
Battery power
You can insert 6 D-sized alkaline batteries (not supplied) and you can take your stereo just about anywhere.
• Open the battery compartment door on the bottom of the unit by pressing down on the tab and pulling out the cover.
• Before inserting the batteries, observe the polarities (that is, + and -) of the battery, then relate the polarities to the engraved diagram located on the battery compartment door. Insert batteries in the battery compartment.
Note that the AC line cord must be unplugged from the jack on the back of the unit to operate on batteries.
Before you begin
Important battery information
• Remove the batteries to avoid leakage if you do not use your system for more than one month.
• Discard leaky batteries immediately as leaking batteries may cause skin burns or other personal injuries. Dispose of batteries in the proper manner, according to provincial and local regulations.
• Any battery may leak electrolyte under the following circumstances:
- if mixed with a different battery type,
- if inserted incorrectly,
- if all batteries are not replaced at the same time,
- if disposed of in fire, or
- if an attempt is made to charge a battery not intended to be recharged
• Be sure to remove batteries when storing the set for more than 30 days. Leaky batteries can badly damage the system. Be sure to dispose of leaky, weak or dead batteries properly according to federal, state, and local regulations. To prevent injury or damage, do not reverse batteries and do not mix battery type.
Headset safety
• Have a Blast-Just Not in your eardrums! Make sure you turn down the volume on the unit before you put on headphones. Increase the volume to the desired level only after headphone are in place.
• Do not play your headset at high volume. Hearing experts warn against extended high-volume play.
• If you experience ringing in your ears, reduce volume or discontinue use.
•You should use with extreme caution or temporarily discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.
• Even if your headset is an open-air designed to let you to hear outside sounds, do not turn up the volume so high that you are unable to hear what is around you.
Don’t infringe
This product should only be used for the purposes for which it is sold, that is, entertainment, violating no copyright law. Any attempts to use this product for unintended purposes are unlawful and therefore not condoned by Thomson.

SOURCE To select among the radio, CD, AUX IN and power off modes.
To go to the previous track/file or search backward. To tune down frequency in the radio mode.

mp3 playback
This player can play mp3 files stored on a CD.
Notes on CD-R/RW
• Do not affix any type of labels to either side (recordable
or labeled side) of a CD-R/RW disc as this may result in the unit malfunctioning.
•To avoid damages to the CD-R/RW disc, do not open the disc compartment door while the disc is being read.
• Do not load an unrecorded CD-R/RW disc into the unit. This may take a longer time to read the disc.
• Playback capability for CD-RW discs may vary due to variations in the quality of the CD-RW disc and the recorder used to create the disc.
Bass boost system
Press DBBS to turn the digital bass boost system on and off.
Sound equalizer
Press to select among the different sound effects (Rock, Jazz, Pop, Classic and sound equalizer off).
Auxiliary input
Sound from an external player (e.g. mp3 player) can be played from this unit. Connect an audio cable (not included) to the AUX IN jack on the front of the unit. Connect the other end of the cable to the external player. Select the AUX IN mode by pressing SOURCE repeatedly until “AUX” shows on the display.
Adjust volume by pressing VOL+/–. Control other playback operations on the external player.
Select radio mode
When the unit is turned off, press SOURCE to turn the unit on. Press SOURCE repeatedly to select radio mode.
Select radio band
Press BAND to select FM or AM band.
Tuning to a station
•Press to tune down radio frequency.
•Press to tune up radio frequency.
• Press and hold or to automatically tune to the next station.
Extend or reposition the antenna for better FM reception. Rotate the unit for better AM reception.
Setting preset stations
1. In the radio mode, press BAND to select a radio band.
2. Press or to select the station to be saved as a preset station.
3. Press PROGRAM.
4. Press PRESET UP or PRESET DN repeatedly to assign a preset station number.
5. Press PROGRAM to confirm.
6. Repeat steps 2 to 5 to set additional preset stations.
• There are 20 preset locations for FM and 12 preset locations for AM on this unit.
Using Presets
1. Press BAND to select a radio band.
2. Press PRESET UP or PRESET DOWN repeatedly to access the desired preset stations.
CD playback
Selecting CD mode
When the unit is turned off, press SOURCE to turn the unit on. Press SOURCE repeatedly to select the CD mode.
Loading music
Press the OPEN button to open the disc compartment door. “– – –” shows on the display when the door is open. Place a disc on the disc tray with the label side facing up and then close the door. “– – –” flashes on the display when disc is being read. The total number of track/file is then shown on the display.
mp3
When playing an mp3 disc, the display shows the total number of tracks without the folder structure.
Play and pause
1. In stop mode, press to begin playback. The icon is displayed.
2. During playback, press to pause playback. Press again to resume. The icon and the current track/file number are flashing in the pause mode.
Skip and search
1. Press or to skip to the previous or next track respectively.
2. Press and hold or to search quickly current track backward or forward respectively.
Stop playback
Press to stop the playback.
Playback mode
In CD / mp3 mode, press MODE repeatedly to select among:
• REPEAT 1 - Repeats current track/file.
• REPEAT ALL - Repeats the entire disc.
- Random playback.
• (No icon) - Normal playback.
Creating programs
• The unit can program up to 64 normal audio CD tracks and 64 mp3 tracks.
• Folder program is not
supported by this unit.
1. In the CD stop mode, press PROGRAM to enter the program mode. The PROGRAM icon shows on the display with “P01” (first program location) and “000” (for selecting track/file number) flash on the display.
2. Press or to select the track to be stored.
3. Press PROGRAM to store the selected track.
4. Repeat step 2 and 3 to continue programming.
5. Press in the program mode to start the program playback. Press to exit the program creating mode.
The unit remains in program mode once programming track is done. In the program mode, random playback mode cannot be selected.
Displaying and editing program list
• Press PROGRAM repeatedly to recall and display the program.
• While track number is displayed, press
or to edit the track number. Press PROGRAM to store the newly selected track.
Deleting program list
Opening the CD compartment door or switching mode will delete all the stored tracks.
Troubleshooting tipsCD playback
System doesn’t turn on
• Unplug the unit for a moment, and then plug it back in.
• Check the outlet by plugging in another device
No sound
• Adjust volume setting.
• Make sure you’ve selected the correct function
• Make sure headphones are not plugged in.
Poor radio reception
• Adjust the antenna for better reception
•Try turning off electrical appliances near the unit, such as hair dryers, vacuum cleaners, or fluorescent lights
CD doesn’t play
• Make sure you’ve put a CD in the tray
• Make sure the CD’s label is facing up
•Try another CD
• Make sure that Pause mode is not activated
• Make sure CD function is selected
ESD remark:
In case of misfunction due to electrostatic discharge just reset the product (disconnect and reconnect of the power source may be required) to resume normal operation.
CD sound skips
• Clean the CD (as explained in “Maintenance”)
• Check CD for warping, scratches, or other damage
Cannot play mp3 files
• Make sure files are saved under .mp3 extension. e.g. Rocky08.mp3
• Check that the recorded bit rate is within 32kbps and 320kbps.
• Make sure the files are in MPEG 1/2 layer 3 format.
Maintenance
Cleaning the exterior
• Disconnect the system from AC power before cleaning the exterior of the unit with a soft dust cloth
• Clean the exterior with a soft clean cloth or slightly moistened chamois leather. DO NOT use solvents as it may cause damage to the unit.
Handling CDs
• Do not touch the signal surfaces. Hold CDs by the edges, or by one edge and the hole.
• Do not affix labels or adhesive tapes to the label surfaces. Do not scratch or damage the label.
• CDs rotate at high speeds inside the player. Do not use damaged (cracked or warped) CDs
• Make sure CDs are stored in their original case after use. Keep them away from damp, humid or abnormally heated places.
Cleaning CDs
• Dirty CDs can cause poor sound quality. Always keep CDs clean by wiping them gently with a soft cloth from the inner edge toward the outer perimeter.
• If a CD becomes dirty, wet a soft cloth in water, wring it out well, wipe the dirt away gently, and then remove any water drops with a dry cloth.
• Do not use record cleaning sprays or antistatic agents on CDs. Also, never clean CDs with benzene, thinner, or other volatile solvents which may cause damage to disc surface.
CD Lens Care
• When your CD lens gets dirty it can also cause the system to output poor sound quality. To clean the lens you will need to purchase a CD lens cleaner which can maintain the output sound quality of your system. For instructions on cleaning the CD lens, refer to the ones accompanying the lens cleaner.

U.S. Limited Warranty
What your warranty covers:
• Defects in materials or workmanship.
For how long after your purchase:
• 90 days from date of purchase - unit exchange, which includes parts and labor. 91 days to 1 year from date of purchase ­unit exchange, which includes parts only; you pay the labor.
What we will do:
•Provide you with a new, or at our option, a refurbished unit. The exchange unit is under warranty for the remainder of the original product’s warranty period.
•Proof of purchase in the form of a bill of sale or receipted invoice which is evidence that the product is within the warranty period must be presented to obtain warranty service. For rental firms, proof of first rental is also required.
How to make a warranty claim:
•Properly pack your unit. Include any cables, etc., which were originally provided with the product. We recommend using the original carton and packing materials.
•Include evidence of purchase date such as the bill of sale. Also print your name and address and a description of the defect. Send via standard UPS or its equivalent to:

•Insure your shipment for of loss or damage. Thomson accepts no liability in case of damage or loss en route to Thomson.
• Pay any charges billed to you by the Exchange Center for service not covered by the warranty.
•A new or refurbished unit will be shipped to you freight prepaid.
What your warranty does not cover:
• Customer instruction. (Your Owner’s Manual provides information regarding operating Instructions and user controls. For additional information, ask your dealer.)
•Installation and set-up service adjustments.
• Batteries.
• Damage from misuse or neglect.
•Products which have been modified or incorporated into other products.
•Products purchased or serviced outside the USA.
•Acts of nature, such as but not limited to lightning damage.
Product Registration:
•Please complete and mail the Product registration Card packed with your unit. It will make it easier to contact you should it ever be necessary. The return of the card is not required for warranty coverage.
Limitation of Warranty:
• THE WARRANTY STATED ABOVE IS THE ONLY WARRANTY APPLICABLE TO THIS PRODUCT. ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED (INCLUDING ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE) ARE HEREBY DISCLAIMED. NO VERBAL OR WRITTEN INFORMATION GIVEN BY THOMSON INC., ITS AGENTS OR EMPLOYEES SHALL CREATE A GUARANTY OR IN ANY WAY INCREASE THE SCOPE OF THIS WARRANTY.
• REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT AS PROVIDED UNDER THIS WARRANTY IS THE EXCLUSIVE REMEDY OF THE CONSUMER. THOMSON INC.
