OWNER’S MANUAL — Please read before using this equipment.

AA Travel Charger Pack

Your RadioShack AA Travel Charger Pack can charge 2 or 4 AA or
AAA Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries in two hours.

Its features include:

Automatic Charging Current Selection

— chooses the best

charging current according to battery size.

2/4 Batteries Selection Switch

— lets you choose to charge 2 or 4

batteries at a time.

Safety Timer Shut-Off

— turns off the charger to prevent over-

charging the batteries.

Over-Current Protection

— keeps the current constant.

Reverse Polarity Protectio n

— protects the charger and batteries

against incorrectly installed batteries.

Short Circuit Protection

— protects the charger from damage.

The charger comes with four 1.2V, 1500 mAH Ni-MH batteries and a
6-foot cigarette-lighter plug cable for connecting to vehicle battery
power.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS!

This manual contains important safety and operation instructions for
your battery charger. Before using your charger, read all instructions
and cautionary markings on the charger, the batteries to be char ged,
and the product that uses the batteries.

Warnings:

• Charge only Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries with this charger. Other
types of batteries might burst, causing personal injury.

• Unplug the charger from the cigarette-lighter socket or AC outlet
before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.

• Do not disassemble the charger; take it to a qualified service
technician when service or repair is required. Improper reas­sembly may result in a risk of electric shock or fire.

• Do not use an attachment not recommended or sold by
RadioShack as this could result in a risk of fire, electric shock,
or injury.

Cautions:

• Do not expose the charger to rain or excessive moisture.

• Do not operate the charger if it has received a sharp blow, or
been dropped or damaged in any way. Take it to a qualified ser­vice technician for repair.

• Do not use an extension cord. Its use could result in fire or elec­tric shock.

• Never use the charger as a DC power source for any electrical
equipment.

OPERATION

You can power the charger from a vehicle’s 12V power sourc e (suc h
as a cigarette-lighter socket) using the supplied 12 volt, 2A DC
adapter. You can also power the charger using an 12V, 700-mA AC
adapter and a size M Adaptaplug (neither supplied). All are available
at your local RadioShack store.

Cautions:

You must use a Class 2 power source that supplies
12V DC and delivers at least 700 mA. Its center tip
must be set to positive and its plug must fit the

charger's

DC 12V 700 mA

jack. The supplied adapter meets
these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet
these specifications could damage the charger or the
adapter.

• Always connect the adapter to the charger before you con­nect it to the power source. When you finish, disconnect the
DC adapter from the power source before you disconnect it
from the charger.

Notes:

• It is normal for the batteries to become warm while charging.

• Charge the batteries in an area between –0.4 and 140 °F (–18
and 60 °C). If the area is too cold, the batteries can permanently
lose their ability to charge. If the area is too wa rm, t he bat teri es
will not be fully charged.

• Do not try to charge batteries other than those listed in this
manual, or use procedures other than those described in this
manual.

1. Lift the battery compartment cover. Then set

of batteries you want to charge.

2. Place AA or AAA batteries into the battery compartment accord­ing to the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside each cham­ber.

Caution:

Be sure all batteries are correctly installed according

to polarity before powering the charger.

ing chambers.

To power the charger by vehicle battery

, insert the output plug

of the supplied cigarette-lighter plug cable into the charger’s

jack, then insert the cigarette-lighter plug into a cig­arette-lighter socket. The CHARGING and POWER indicators
light.

To power the charger by an optional AC/DC adapter,

attach the
Adaptaplug to the adapter so TIP reads positive (+), insert the
Adaptaplug into the charger’s

jack, then plug the
adapter into a standard AC outlet. The CHARGING and
POWER indicators light.

Note:

If the POWER indicator does not light, make sure the AC/
DC adapter and charger are properly connected, or turn the
metal cap on top of the supplied cigarette-lighter plug counter­clockwise and remove the cap then the fuse. If the fuse is bro­ken or blown, replace it with a 2A, 250V, slow-blow glass fuse
(available at your local RadioShack store). If the CHARGING
indicator does not light, unplug the charger, remove the batter-

ies, and clean their contact surfaces. Then reinstall the batteries
and plug in the charger. If the problem persists, the c harger may
be faulty. Take the charger to your local RadioShack store. If the
CHARGING indicator flashes, one of the batteries may be
defective or shorted. Replace the battery.

4. When the batteries are fully charged, the CHARGING indicator
turns off. Unplug the charger and remove the batteries.

CARE

Keep the charger dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and
store the charger only in normal temperature environments. Handle
the charger carefully; do not drop it. Keep the charger away from
dust and dirt, and wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it
looking new.

Modifying or tampering with the charger’s internal components can
cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your charg­er is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack
store for assistance.

In the event of a product defect during the warranty period, take the product and the RadioShack
sales receipt as proof of purchase date to any RadioShack store. RadioShack will, at its option, un­less otherwise provided by law: (a) correct the defect by product repair without charge for parts and
labor; (b) replace the product with one of the same or similar design; or (c) refund the purchase
price. All replaced parts and products, and products on which a refund is made, become the prop­erty of RadioShack. New or reconditioned parts and products may be used in the performance of
warranty service. Repaired or replaced parts and products are warranted for the remainder of the
original warranty period. You will be charged for repair or replacement of the product made after the
expiration of the warranty period.
This warranty does not cover: (a) damage or failure caused by or attributable to acts of God, abuse,
accident, misuse, improper or abnormal usage, failure to follow instructions, improper installation or
maintenance, alteration, lightning or other incidence of excess voltage or current; (b) any repairs
other than those provided by a RadioShack Authorized Service Facility; (c) consumables such as
fuses or batteries; (d) cosmetic damage; (e) transportation, shipping or insurance costs; or (f) costs
of product removal, installation, set-up service adjustment or reinstallation.
This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from
state to state.
