Your RadioShack 5-Hour/8-Hour AA/AAA Ni­Cd/Ni-MH Battery Charger charges nickel­cadmiu m (Ni-Cd) batterie s in about 5 hours or nickel-metal-hydride (Ni-MH) batteries in about 8 hou rs. You c an charg e two or fou r AA or AAA batteries of the sa me ty pe a nd c ap ac ­ity. Or yo u can c harge on e 9V batte ry with the char ger’ s 9-v olt batt ery termi nal s. Ch arg ing a 9V battery takes about 9 hours.

Safety Timer Protection
— automatically stops charging AA or AAA batteries after the charging timer runs out.

Battery Capacity Switch
— lets you select the capacity (standard or high-capacity) of the batteries you are charging.

— protects the charger and batteries if you incorrectly install batteries.
Charging/Disch arging Indic ators
— the red indicators show that batteries are charging and the green indicator shows that batteries are discharging.
Ni-Cd/Ni-MH Switch
— lets you select the
battery type you are charging.

conditioner that discharges the batteries. The charger automatically begins charging the batteries once it has completely discharged them.

This manual contains important safety and operating instructions for your charger.
Before you use the battery charger, read all instructions and cautionary markings on the charger, the batteries to be charged, and the products that use the batteries.
Warning:
only Ni-Cd or Ni-MH batteries with this charg­er. Other types of batteries might burst, caus­ing personal injury and damage.
To reduce the risk of injury, charge

Do not expose the charger to rain or
excessive moisture.
Any attachments not intended for use
with this battery charger can result in a

risk of fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
Never operate the charger if it has received a sharp blow, or been dropped or damaged in any way. Take it to your local RadioShack store for service.
Do not disassemble the charger. Have it serviced or repaired by qualified Ra­dioShack service personnel only. Incor­rect assembly can result in a risk of elec­tric shock or fire.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from the outlet before routine maintenance or cleaning.
Do not use an extension cord. Its use could result in fire or electric shock.
If the AC plug does not fit in the AC out­let, have a qualified technician install the proper outlet. Improper connection can result in an electric shock.

Never use the charger as a DC power source for any electrical equipment.
OPERATION
General Charging Guidelines
Completely discharge Ni-Cd batteries before you charge them. Repeated par­tial discharging and recharging can shorten their useful life. This does not apply to Ni-MH batteries.
It is normal for batteries to become warm while cha rgi ng.
Batteries in the charger at the same time must be of the same type (Ni-Cd or Ni­MH) and capacity (standard or high­capacity).
The charger has two channels. Both the left and right c hannel s have two po si tions for AAA and two positions for AA batter-
