The FCC Wants You to Know
This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the
Rules
. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications.
However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause h armful interference to radio or television reception. Which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is

encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measurers:
• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.
• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.
• Consult your local RadioShack store or an experienced radio/ TV technician for help.
Changes or modifications not expressly approved by RadioShack may cause interference and void the user’s authority to operate the equipment.

Using the Rechargeable Battery Pack
Your radio has a built-in power generator to charge the internal rechargeable battery pack. When you rotate the crank for as little as 2 minutes, the generator charges the Ni-Cd battery to power the radio for over 30 minutes.
1. To remove the battery compartment cover, push the cover’s tabs down and pull the cover in the direction of the arrows marked on the cover.
2. The supplied Ni-Cd battery is installed but not connected. Insert the battery pack’s white plug into the socket.
Cautions:
• The battery pack’s polarized
plug fits into the socket only one way. Do not force it. If the plug does not fit properly, turn it over and try again.
• The supplied battery pack plug has the red wire towards
the top of the radio when inserted correctly.
3. Replace the compartment cover.
4. Set

Radio operation time depends on the number of turns
Note:
and the time per turn. For example, about 2 turns per second for 2 minutes will provide over 30 minutes of radio operation at a medium volume level. You can recharge the battery pack even while the radio plays.
7. Return the crank to the folded position.
If turning the crank at about 2 turns per second for about 1 minute does not power the radio for at least 15 minutes, replace the battery pack with a DC 2.4V, 300mAH rechargeable Ni-Cd battery pack, available at your local RadioShack store.
Using Batteries
Your radio can use two AA batteries (not supplied) for power. For the best performance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline batteries.
Caution:
• Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type.
• Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable).
1. Remove the battery compartment cover.
2. Place the batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and –) marked inside.
5

3. Replace the cover.
4. Set

When the radio does not operate properly or the sound weakens, replace the AA batteries.
Warning:
Dispose of batteries promptly and properly; do not bury
or burn them.
Caution:
If you do not plan to use the radio for a week o r more, remove the AA batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts.
Using AC or DC Power
You can power the radio from AC power using a 3V, 200mA AC adapter and a size M Adaptaplug adapter (neither supplied), or from a vehicle’s 12V cigarette-lighter socket or similar power source using a 3V, 200mA DC adapter and a size M Adaptaplug adapter (neither supplied). Both are available at your local RadioShack store.
Cautions:
• You must use a (Class 2 for AC) power source that supplies 3V DC and delivers at least 200mA. Its center tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the radio’s an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the radio or the adapter.

jack. Using
• Always connect the AC or DC adapter to the radio before you connect it to the power source. When you finish, disconnect the adapter from the power source before you d isconnect it from the radio.

• Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-

volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level. So a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.
Traffic Safety
Do not wear earphones or headphones while opera ting a motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and could be illegal in some areas.
Even though some earphones or headphones let you hear some outside sounds when listening at normal volume levels, they can still present a traffic hazard.

CARE
Keep the radio dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and store the radio only in normal temperature environments. Handle the radio carefully; do not drop it. Keep the radio away from dust and dirt, and wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new.
Modifying or tampering with the radio’s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your radio is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. If the trouble is affecting the telephone lines, the phone company can ask you to disconnect your radio until you have resolved the problem.
