Stacking Cable Instructions
These instructions describe the interconnection of SANbox® 5000 Series switches and SANbox 9000
Series switches using XPAK-XPAK and XPAK-X2 stacking cables. SANbox 5000 Series switches have
10-Gbps
combinations are as follows:
SANbox 5000 to SANbox 5000 XPAK-XPAK 3 inch, 9 inch, 2 meter
SANbox 5000 to SANbox 9000 XPAK-X2 18 inch, 2 meter
SANbox 9000 to SANbox 9000 X2-X2 18 inch
Remove XPAK and X2 Port Covers
Both SANbox 5000 and SANbox 9000 Series switches come with port covers on the XPAK and X2
ports respectively. Before installing the XPAK cables, remove the port covers. To remove the port
covers for either switch model, insert a small flathead screwdriver in the cover slot and gently pry the
cover from the port.

SANbox 5800 series XPAK ports can be licensed for 20-Gbps. SANbox 5800 Series XPAK ports that have been upgraded to
20-Gbps are fully compatible with XPAK and X2 ports running at 10-Gbps, and will auto-negotiate to match the speed of the slower
device.

Connect SANbox 5000 Series Switches
Using an XPAK-XPAK connector, install the cable connectors with the circuit board toward the mid line
of the respective switch faceplates. The cable connector will fit only one way. When installing the
3-inch XPAK cable, insert the cable connectors into the XPAK ports at the same time as shown.
Circuit Board
Connect SANbox 5000 and 9000 Series Switches
To connect a SANbox 5000 Series switch and a SANbox 9000 Series switch, use an XPAK-X2 cable.
Install the XPAK connector in the SANbox 5000 series switch port with the circuit board toward the mid
line of the switch. Install the X2 connector in the SANbox 9000 switch port with the circuit board on the
left. SANbox 5800 Series XPAK ports that are licensed for 20-Gbps will auto-negotiate to interoperate
with the 10-Gbps SANbox 9000 Series X2 ports.
To connect two SANbox 9000 switches, use an X2-X2 cable. Install the cable connectors in the
respective switch ports with the circuit boards on the left. The cable connector will fit only one way.
