1. Introduction
The RD7950 Integrated UHF RFID Reader is an EPC-compliant
900MHz RFID reader available for use with the Psion T eklogix 7535
Hand-Held Computer . The RD7950 meets the EPC-compliance
requirements of W al-Mart and the U.S. Department of Defense, while
leveraging existing hardware infrastructures. Multimedia data capture
capabiliti e s a re d e live red b y comb in in g RF ID wi th ex istin g t echn ol ogies such as laser bar code scanning or imaging.
2. Features
2.1 Flexibility
Compatible with EPC Class 0, 0+, and Class 1, as well as the ISO
18000-6 B protocol, the RD7950 delivers outs tanding flex ibility.
Delivers multimedia data capture capabilities since the RD7950, and
laser bar code scanning or imaging capab ilities, can be integrated
into a single ha nd- held de vic e.
2.2 Ruggedness
The rugged des i gn of the R D 795 0 de live rs overall system up-time
for increa sed p roductivity e ven in h arsh e nvironmen ts. The R D795 0
is rated at IP5 4, prote cted against dust and wate r sprayed from all
directions. Combined with a 1.22 m (4 ft.) drop rating to con crete,
the RD7950 will keep working even when subjected to harsh impacts.

2.3 Ergonomics

the RD7950 is easy to use for a full shift.
3. Installation
To install the RD7950 Integr ated U HF RFID R eade r to the 7535
Hand-Held Computer, first attach the pistol grip.

Notes: A Phillips head scr ewdriver is required. Do not use adh e-
sives such as Loctite to secure the screws on carrying accessories. These che mi c al s ma y damage th e p l as tic casin g.
The pistol grip is atta ch ed to the back of the 75 35 H and- Held
Computer us ing the f our thr e ade d in se rts in the up per p art of the
7535 casing .
Four black #4-40 Phillips head screws are provided with this accessory: two for insertion into the bottom holes, and two for insertion
into the top holes thr ough the RD 7950 whe n attach ing it to the 7535/
pistol grip assembly (see page 7).
Note:Prior to installation, make sure the trigger mechanism is
securely snapped into the pistol gr ip bo dy and th at the
trigger oper ates properly.
•Position the pistol g rip so that it fits snugly ove r the back of the
unit and the inserts on the back of the 7535 align with the hole s
in the pistol grip.
•Using a Phillips screwdriver, securely fasten the pistol grip to
the two bottom hole s on the bac k o f th e 75 35. Tighten the
screws to a torque of 3kgf-cm (3 lbs-in), or until fing er-tight, to
secure the pistol grip in place.

3.1 Enabling The RD7950
•In the 7535 unit, when the trigger source is selected for
RFID usage, pulling the trigger causes a Scanning icon
to appear . While that icon is displayed, the RD7950 is
powered on and actively probing for RFID tags.
•When the trigger is released, the image will disappear , a nd the
RD7950 is po we red d ow n.
