Chapter 1: Introduction

1.1 About This Manual

This Product Manual describes how to setup, use, and maintain the
SmartStor NSx700. It also describes how to use:

• SmartNAVI software that you install and run on your Windows or Mac

• Promise Advanced Manager WEBPAM PROe software that runs on

the SmartStor by browser.

This manual includes a full table of contents, chapter task lists, and
numerous cross-references to help you find the specific information you
are looking for.

Also included are four levels of notices:

2.1 Unpacking the SmartStor NAS

The SmartStor NSx700 series box contains the following items:

2.2 Installing Disk Drives

Note: You are highly recommended to select Enterprise Level HDD to
achieve the best data protection.

You can populate the SmartStor NSx700 series NAS with SATA 1.5 Gb/s
or 3.0 Gb/s disk drives. For optimal performance, install disk drives of
the same model and capacity. Your disk drives will become a RAID
Volume on the SmartStor.

To install disk drives:

1. Remove the disk tray from the device by the following steps:
a. Slide the latch leftwards.
b. Press the button next to the latch.
c. Pull the latch out to open the door of disk tray, then you can

pull the disk tray out from the enclosure.

2. Carefully lay the disk drive into the drive tray, so that the screw

holes on the sides of the carrier align with the screw holes in the
drive.

3. Insert the screws through the holes in the drive carrier and into the

sides of the disk drive.

․ Install only the counter-sink screws supplied with the

SmartStor.

․ Install four screws per drive.
․ Snug each screw. Be careful not to over-tighten.

4. Reinstall the drive tray into the SmartStor enclosure.

Tip: Repeat steps 1 through 4 until all of your disk drives are
installed.

Caution

Support disk drive hot-swapping. To avoid hand contact
with an electrical hazard, remove only one drive carrier a
time.

2.3 Connecting the Ethernet cable

To connect the SmartStor NAS to your network:

1. Attach one end of the network cable to the RJ45 network

connection.
Please rep See Figure 2.

2. Attach the other end of the network cable to your Ethernet hub or

switch.

2.4 Connecting the Power

To power the SmartStor NAS:

1. Attach the power cord on the back of the SmartStor enclosure and

plug the other end into the power source. See Figure 2.

2. On the front of the SmartStor NAS, press the power button. See

Figure 1. It takes about a minute to boot the SmartStor. When fully
booted:

․ The System Status LED turns blue. See Figure 1.
․ The buzzer beeps one time.

2.5 Shutting Down the SmartStor NAS

To shut down the SmartStor NAS, press and hold the power button until
the power LED indicator turns red.

2.6 Using LCD

The SmartStor provides you with a LCD on the front panel that allows
you to easily monitor the system status, and configure the network.

• To monitor the system status, press the Select button repeatedly.
The system status will be displayed on the LCD panel sequentially,
including the system temperature, voltage, ventilator status, firmware
& BIOS version, etc.

• To configure the networking settings:

1. Press the Enter button to display the Network Setup option on

the LCD.

2. Press the Select Button to select the options and then press the

Enter button to change the setting values.

3. When done, select OK and press the Enter button to apply the

networking configuration.

2.7 Setup Wizard

The system’s Wizard lets you configure your disk array(s) easily and quickly.

The Wizard will guide you through the required settings step by step.
You can choose to configure automatically by using One-Click Setup, or
configure manually by using Advance Setup.

Using Automatic Configuration Wizard

1. Click NAS tab > Wizard.

2. Click the One-Click Setup button. The Automatic Configuration box

displays:

3. The Summary window displays the general information of the

system, including:

․ Computer Name
․ IP Address
․ Storage Type

4. To accept the proposed configuration, click the Submit button.

If you disagree with the proposed configuration, click the Advance
Setup button to directly specify all parameters for a new disk array,
logical drives, and spare drives.

Using Advanced Configuration Wizard

1. Click NAS tab > Wizard.

2. Click the Advance Setup button. The Advanced Configuration box

displays:

3. Complete the required settings in the Network Settings window,

including:

․ Computer Name
․ Obtain an IP address automatically
․ IP Address
․ Subnet Mask
․ Default Gateway
․ Primary DNS
․ Secondary DNS

When done, click the Next button.

4. Select Storage Type: Data Protection or Maximum Capacity, and

then click the Next button.

5. The Summary window displays the general information of the

system, including:

․ Storage Type

To accept the proposed configuration, click the Submit button.

2.10 Replaceable batteries

Kapitel 2: Schnelleinrichtung

2.1 Auspacken des SmartStor NAS

2.2 Installieren von Festplattenlaufwerken

Anmerkung: Für einen optimalen Datenschutz empfehlen wir die
Verwendung von Festplatten nach Industriestandard.

Sie können SATA-1,5 Gbit/s- oder -3,0 Gbit/s-Festplatten im SmartStor
NSx700 Serie NAS installieren. Die beste Leistung erhalten Sie, wenn
Sie das gleiche Laufwerksmodell mit derselben Kapazität installieren.
Die Festplatten werden als RAID-Volume im SmartStor installiert.

So installieren Sie die Laufwerke:

1. Entfernen Sie den Laufwerksschacht vom Gerät durch Ausführen
der folgenden Schritte:

a. Schieben Sie die Verriegelung nach links.
b. Drücken Sie auf die Verriegelung zum Öffnen des

Laufwerksschachtes. Anschließend können Sie den
Laufwerksschacht aus dem Gehäuse ziehen.

2. Legen Sie die Festplatte vorsichtig so in den Laufwerksschacht ein,
dass sich die Schraubenöffnungen an den Seiten des Trägers mit
den Gewindebohrungen im Laufwerk decken.

3. Stecken Sie die Schrauben durch die Bohrungen im
Laufwerkträger in die Seiten des Laufwerks.

․ Verwenden Sie bei der Installation des SmartStor

ausschließlich die mitgelieferten Senkkopfschrauben.

․ Verwenden Sie vier Schrauben pro Festplatte.
․ Ziehen Sie jede Schraube gut an, Gehen Sie dabei behutsam

vor, um ein Überdrehen der Schrauben zu vermeiden.

4. Installieren Sie den Laufwerksschacht wieder im
SmartStor-Gehäuse.

Tipp: Wiederholen Sie die Schritte 1 bis 4, bis alle Festplatten
eingebaut sind.

Achtung

Hot-Swapping von Festplattenlaufwerken wird
unterstützt. Um einen Handkontakt mit stromführenden
Teilen zu vermeiden, entfernen Sie nur einen
Laufwerksschacht auf einmal.

2.3 Anschluss des Ethernetkabels

So verbinden Sie den SmartStor NAS mit einem Netzwerk:

1. Schließen Sie das eine Ende des Netzwerkkabels an den
RJ45-Netzwerkanschluss an.
Siehe Abbildungen 2.

2. Schließen Sie das andere Ende des Netzwerkkabels an den
Ethernet-Hub oder-Switch an.

2.4 Anschließen an die Stromversorgung

So schließen Sie den SmartStor NAS an die Stromversorgung an:

1. Schließen Sie das Stromkabel auf der Rückseite des
SmartStor-Gehäuses an und schließen Sie das andere Ende an
die Stromversorgung an. Siehe Abbildungen 2.

2. Drücken Sie auf den EIN/AUS-Schalter an der SmartStor
NAS-Vorderseite. Siehe Abbildungen 1. Das Starten des
SmartStor dauert ca. eine Minute. Nach abgeschlossenem
Startvorgang:

․ Die Systemstatus-LED leuchtet blau. Siehe Abbildung 1.
․ Es wird ein einmaliges akustisches Signal ausgegeben.

2.5 SmartStor NAS herunterfahren

Um den SmartStor NAS herunterzufahren, halten Sie den
Ein/Aus-Schalter etwas länger gedrückt, bis die LED-Anzeige rot
leuchtet.

2.6 Verwendung der LCD-Anzeige

Der SmartStor verfügt an der Vorderseite über eine LCD-Anzeige, die
Ihnen die einfache Überwachung des Systemstatus und Konfiguration
des Netzwerkes ermöglicht.

• Drücken Sie mehrmals auf die Auswahl-Taste, um den Systemstaus
zu überwachen. Der Systemstatus wird auf der LCD-Anzeige
abwechselnd mit Angabe der Systemtemperatur, Spannung,
Lüfterstatus, Firmware & BIOS Version etc. angezeigt.

• So konfigurieren Sie die Netzwerkeinstellungen:

1. Drücken Sie auf die Eingabetaste zur Anzeige der

Netzwerkeinrichtungsoptionen auf der LCD-Anzeige.

2. Drücken Sie auf die Auswahl-Taste zur Auswahl der Optionen

und anschließend auf die Eingabetaste zum Ändern der
Einstellungswerte.

3. Wählen Sie nach dem Abschluss OK und drücken Sie auf die

Eingabetaste, um die Netzwerkkonfiguration zu übernehmen.

2.7 Setup-Assistent

Mit dem Systemassistenten lässt/lassen sich Sie Ihr(e) Disk Array(s)
einfach und schnell konfigurieren. Der Assistent wird Sie Schritt für
Schritt durch die benötigten Einstellungen begleiten. Sie können die
Konfiguration durch Verwendung der One-Click Setup (Ein-Klick
Einrichtung) entweder automatisch vornehmen oder manuell durch
Verwendung von Advance Setup (Erweiterte Einrichtung).

Verwendung des automatischen Konfigurationsassistenten

1. Klicken Sie auf die NAS Registerkarte > Wizard (Assistent).

2. Klicken Sie auf Ein-Klick Einrichtung. Das Fenster für die

automatische Konfiguration wird angezeigt.

3. Das Fenster Zusammenfassung zeigt die allgemeinen

Systeminformationen an, darunter:

․ Computername
․ IP-Adresse
․ Speichertyp

4. Um die angebotene Konfiguration zu akzeptieren, klicken Sie auf

Submit (Übernehmen).

Wenn Sie die angebotene Konfiguration nicht übernehmen möchten,
klicken Sie auf Advance Setup (Erweiterte Einrichtung), um alle
Parameter für ein neues Disk Array, logische Laufwerke und
Reservelaufwerke direkt anzugeben.

Verwendung des erweiterten Konfigurationsassistenten

1. Klicken Sie auf die NAS Registerkarte > Wizard (Assistent).

2. Klicken Sie auf Advance Setup (Erweiterte Einrichtung). Das

Fenster für die Erweiterte Konfiguration wird angezeigt.

3. Vervollständigen Sie die benötigten Einstellungen im

Netzwerkeinstellungsfenster, darunter:

․ Computername
․ Automatischer Erhalt einer IP-Adresse
․ IP-Adresse
․ Subnet-Maske
․ Standard Gateway
․ Primärer DNS
․ Sekundärer DNS

Klicken Sie nach dem Abschluss auf Next (Weiter).

4. Wählen Sie als Speichertyp: Datenschutz oder Maximale Kapazität

aus und klicken Sie anschließend auf Next (Weiter).

5. Das Fenster Zusammenfassung zeigt die allgemeinen

Systeminformationen an, darunter:

2.1 Retrait de l’emballage du SmartStor NAS

2.2 Installation de lecteurs de disque

Remarque : Il est fortement recommandé de choisir Enterprise Level
HDD pour avoir la meilleure protection des données possible.

Vous pouvez équiper le NAS SmartStor série NSx700 de lecteurs de
disque SATA 1,5 Go/s ou 3,0 Go/s. Pour bénéficier de performances
optimales, installez des lecteurs de disque de mêmes modèle et
capacité. Vos lecteurs de disque prendront la forme d’un volume RAID
sur le SmartStor.

Pour installer les lecteurs de disque :

1. Retirez le tiroir du disque du boîtier en suivant ces étapes :
a. Faites glisser le loquet vers la gauche.
b. Appuyez sur le loquet pour ouvrir la porte du plateau de disque,

ensuite vous pouvez sortir le support de disque du boîtier.

2. Posez soigneusement le lecteur de disque dans le support de

lecteur, de sorte que les trous destinés aux vis situés sur les côtés
du support s’alignent avec ceux du lecteur.

3. Insérez les vis dans les trous du support de lecteur et des côtés du

lecteur de disque.

․ Installez uniquement les vis fraisées, fournies avec le

SmartStor.

․ Installez quatre vis par lecteur de disque.
․ Serrez chaque vis. Prenez soin de ne pas trop serrer.

4. Replacez le support de lecteur dans le boîtier du SmartStor.

Conseil : Répétez les étapes 1 à 4 jusqu’à ce que tous les lecteurs
de disque soient installés.

Attention

Supporte le branchement/débranchement à chaud des
disques. Pour éviter tout risque d’électrocution, retirer un
seul support de disque à la fois.

2.3 Branchement du câble Ethernet

Pour connecter le SmartStor NAS à votre réseau :

1. Raccordez une extrémité du câble réseau à la connexion réseau

RJ45.
Veuillez voir les figures 2.

2. Raccordez l’autre extrémité du câble réseau à votre concentrateur

ou commutateur Ethernet.

2.4 Mise sous tension

Pour mettre le SmartStor NAS sous tension :

1. Fixez le cordon d’alimentation à l’arrière du boîtier SmartStor et

branchez l’autre extrémité dans la source d’alimentation.
Reportez-vous aux figures 2.

2. Sur la façade du NAS SmartStor, appuyez sur le bouton

d’alimentation. Reportez-vous aux figures 1. Il faut environ 1
minute pour que le SmartStor démarre. Une fois le démarrage
terminé :

․ La DEL d’état du système devient bleue. Reportez-vous à la

Figure 1.

․ Le buzzer émet un bip.

2.5 Arrêter le SmartStor NAS

Pour éteindre le NAS SmartStor, laissez votre doigt appuyez sur le
bouton marche/arrêt jusqu'à ce que la DEL devienne rouge.

2.6 Utilisation de l’écran LCD

Le SmartStor dispose d’un écran LCD en façade qui vous permet de
surveiller facilement l’état du système et de configurer le réseau.

• Pour surveiller l’état du système, appuyez à plusieurs reprises sur le
bouton Sélection (Select). L’état du système sera affiché
séquentiellement sur l’écran LCD, incluant la température du
système, la tension, l’état du ventilateur, la version du firmware et du
BIOS, etc.

• Pour configurer le réseau :

1. Appuyez sur le bouton Entrée (Enter) pour afficher l’option de

configuration du réseau sur l’écran LCD.

2. Appuyez sur le bouton Sélection (Select) pour choisir une option

puis appuyez sur le bouton Entrée (Enter) pour changer la
valeur.

3. Une fois le changement effectué, sélectionnez OK et appuyez

sur Entrée (Enter) pour appliquer les nouveaux réglages à la
configuration du réseau.

2.7 Assistant de Configuration

L'Assistant de Configuration va vous permettre de configurer facilement
et rapidement votre matrice de disques. L'Assistant vous guidera pas à
pas dans la configuration du système. Vous pouvez choisir la
configuration automatique en cliquant sur One-Click Setup

(Installation en un clic), ou la configuration manuelle en sélectionnant
Advance Setup (Installation avancée).

Utilisation de l'Assistant de Configuration Automatique

1. Cliquez sur l'onglet NAS > Wizard (Assistant).

2. Cliquez sur le bouton One-Click Setup (Installation en un clic). La

boîte de dialogue de la configuration automatique apparaît :

2.2 Installazione delle unità disco

Nota: Le consigliamo fortemente di selezionare Enterprise Level HDD
per ottenere la migliore protezione dei dati.

È possibile inserire nella serie SmartStor NSx700 unità disco SATA da
1,5 Gb/s o 3,0 Gb/s. Per ottenere prestazioni ottimali, installare le unità
disco dello stesso modello e e della stessa capacità. Le unità disco
diventano un Volume RAID nello SmartStor.

Per installare le unità disco:

1. Rimuovere la griglia del disco dall’apparecchiatura seguendo
questi passi:

a. Spostare il chiavistello verso sinistra.
b. Premere il chiavistello per aprire la portella della griglia del

disco, quindi tirare via la griglia del disco dall’alloggiamento.

2. Disporre con cura l’unità disco nella griglia, in modo tale che i fori
delle viti sui lati del supporto siano allineati ai fori delle viti
nell’unità.

3. Inserire le viti attraverso i fori nel supporto per unità e nei lati
dell’unità disco.

․ Installare solo le viti a testa svasata fornite con lo SmartStor.
․ Installare quattro viti per unità.
․ Serrare ciascuna vite. Non stringere eccessivamente.

4. Reinstallare il supporto della griglia nel contenitore dello
SmartStor.

Consiglio: Ripetere i punti da 1 a 4 finché sono installate tutte le
unità disco.

Attenzione

Disco di supporto hot-swapping. Per evitare il contatto
con l’elettricità, rimuovere una unità disco per volta.

2.3 Connettere il cavo Ethernet

Per collegare lo SmartStor NAS alla rete:

1. Collegare un’estremità del cavo di rete al collegamento di rete
RJ45.
Vedi figura 2.

2. Collegare l’altra estremità del cavo di rete all’hub o allo switch
Ethernet.

2.4 Collegamento all’alimentazione

Per alimentare lo SmartStor NAS:

1. Collegare il cavo di alimentazione sulla parte posteriore del
contenitore dello SmartStor e collegare l’altra estremità alla fonte
di alimentazione. Vedere le Figure 2.

2. Nella parte anteriore dello SmartStor NAS, premere il pulsante di
accensione. Vedere le figure 1. L’avvio dello SmartStor richiede
circa un minuto. Al completamento dell’avvio:

․ Il LED Stato del sistema diventa blu. Vedere la Figura 1.
․ Il cicalino emette un segnale acustico una volta sola.

2.5 Spegnimento del SmartStor NAS

Per spegnere lo SmartStor NAS, tenere premuto il pulsante di
accensione finchè il LED è rosso.

2.6 Usare l’LCD

SmartStor le fornisce un LCD sul pannello frontale che le permette di
monitorare facilmente lo stato del sistema e configurare la rete.

• Per monitorare lo Stato del sistema, premere ripetutamente il
pulsante Selezione. Lo stato del sistema verrà visualizzato in
sequenza sul pannello LCD, includendo la temperatura del sistema, il
voltaggio, lo stato del ventilatore, versioni firmware e BIOS, ecc.

• Per configurare le impostazioni di rete:

1. Premere il pulsante Conferma per visualizzare l’opzione

Impostazione Rete sull’LCD,

2. Premere il pulsante Selezione per selezionare le opzioni e

premere il pulsante Conferma per cambiare i valori delle
impostazioni.

2.7 Impostazione guidata

Il Wizard del sistema vi permette di configurare facilmente e
velocemente uno o più dischi. Wizard vi guiderà passo passo per ogni
impostazione richiesta. Si potrà scegliere di configurare in maniera
automatica usando One-Click Setup (Impostazioni a un click) o con

Advance Setup (Impostazioni avanzate).

Usare la configurazione automatica Wizard

1. Cliccare NAS tab > Wizard.

2. Cliccare il bottone delle Impostazioni a un click. Apparirà il box di

configurazione automatica:

2.2 Instalación de unidades de disco

Nota: Le recomendamos que seleccione el HDD de nivel empresa para
obtener la mejor protección de datos.

Puede añadir unidades de disco SATA de 1,5 Gb/s o 3 Gb/s a la unidad
SmartStor NSx700 serie NAS. Para que el rendimiento sea óptimo,
instale unidades de disco del mismo modelo y capacidad. Las unidades
de disco pasarán a formar parte de un volumen RAID de SmartStor.

Para instalar las unidades de disco:

1. Extraiga la bandeja de disco del dispositivo siguiendo los pasos
que se detallan a continuación:

a. Deslice el seguro hacia la izquierda.
b. Presione el seguro para abrir la puerta de la bandeja de disco.

Tire de la bandeja del disco para extraerla de la carcasa.

2. Coloque con cuidado la unidad de disco en la bandeja de disco, de
manera que los orificios para tornillos situados a los lados del
portador estén alineados con los orificios de la unidad.

3. Inserte los tornillos por los orificios del portaunidades, a los lados
de la unidad de disco.

․ Coloque únicamente los tornillos avellanados que se

suministran con la SmartStor.

․ Inserte cuatro tornillos por cada unidad.
․ Ajuste los tornillos. Procure no apretarlos demasiado.

4. Vuelva a instalar bandeja de disco en la carcasa del SmartStor.
Consejo: Repita los pasos del 1 al 4 hasta que haya instalado

todas las unidades de disco.

2.3 Conexión del cable Ethernet

Para conectar SmartStor NAS a la red:

1. Una un extremo del cable de red a la conexión de red RJ45.
Consulte de nuevo la ilustración 2.

2. Conecte el otro extremo del cable de red al conmutador o
concentrador Ethernet.

2.4 Conexión de la alimentación eléctrica

Para encender la unidad SmartStor NAS:

1. Conecte el cable de alimentación en la parte posterior de la caja
de SmartStor y enchufe el otro extremo en la fuente de
alimentación. Véase la Ilustración 2.

2. En la parte frontal de SmartStor NAS, pulse el botón de encendido.
Véase la Ilustración 1. SmartStor tarda aproximadamente un
minuto en iniciarse. Cuando se haya iniciado completamente:

2.6 Utilización de la LCD

El SmartStor le ofrece una LCD en el panel frontal que le permite
controlar fácilmente el estado del sistema y configurar la red.

2.7 Asistente de instalación

El asistente del sistema le permite configurar la matriz(ces) de disco
(Disk Array) fácil y rápidamente. El asistente le guiará paso a paso a
través de los ajustes requeridos. Puede elegir la configuración
automática utilizando la One-Click Setup (Configuración en un clic) o
puede configurarla manualmente utilizando la Advance Setup

(Configuración Avanzada).

2.2 Установка дисководов

Примечание. Для максимальной защиты данных рекомендуется
выбирать ЖД уровня предприятия (Enterprise Level).

Для расширения хранилища NAS SmartStor NS серии 700 можно
применять дисководы SATA 1,5 Гб/с или 3,0 Гб/с. Для сохранения
максимальной производительности подключайте диски одной
модели и емкости. В хранилище SmartStor ваши дисководы будут
использоваться в качестве тома RAID.

Установк а дисководов:

1. Для извлечения лотка дисковода выполните следующие действия

:
a. Сдвиньте защелку влево.
b. Нажмите на защелку для открытия дверцы лотка

дисковода, затем вытяньте лоток из корпуса.

2. Осторожно уложите дисковод в лоток дисковода, выровняв
отверстия лотка с отверстиями дисковода.

3. Вставьте винты в отверстия, расположенные на держателе

․ Следует устанавливать по четыре винта на каждый

дисковод.

․ Затяните каждый винт. Постарайтесь не затягивать

слишком туго.

2.3 Подключение кабеля Ethernet

Подключение устройства SmartStor NAS к сети:

1. Подключите один конец сетевого кабеля к сетевому разъему
RJ45.
См. рис. 2.

2. Подключите другой конец сетевого кабеля к концентратору
Ethernet или коммутатору.

2.4 Подключение питания

Подключение питания SmartStor NAS:

1. Подсоедините шнур питания к разъему на задней панели

корпуса SmartStor, и подсоедините его к розетке источника
питания. См. рисунки 2.

2. Нажмите кнопку питания на передней панели накопителя NAS
SmartStor. См. рисунки 1. Загрузка SmartStor занимает
примерно 1 минуту. После полной загрузки:

․ Индикатор состояния системы загорится синим светом.

․ Прозвучит одиночный сигнал.

2.5 Отключение SmartStor NAS

Для отключения накопителя NAS SmartStor прижмите кнопку
питания и дождитесь, пока индикатор питания загорится красным.

2.6 Использование ЖК-дисплея

На передней панели накопителя SmartStor имеется ЖК-дисплей,
позволяющий контролировать состояние системы и
конфигурировать сеть.

• Для контроля состояния нажимайте последовательно кнопку
выбора При этом ЖК-дисплей будет последовательно
отображать состояние системы: температуру системы,
напряжение, состояние вентилятора, версию BIOS и
микропрограммы и т.д.

• Для настройки сетевых параметров:

1. Нажмите кнопку Enter для отображения на дисплее пункта

настроек Network Setup (Параметры сети).

2. Кнопкой выбора выберите нужные параметры и нажмите

кнопку Enter для изменения значений настроек.

3. После настройки выберите ОК и нажмите кнопку Enter для

применения новых настроек сети.

2.7 Мастер настройки

Мастер настройки системы позволяет легко и удобно настроить
массив дисков. Мастер проведет вас через пошаговую процедуру
требуемых настроек. Вы можете выбрать процедуру настройки
One-Click Setup «в одно касание», или настроить параметры
системы вручную в меню Advance Setup «Дополнительно».
