offersfreedom to createyour own light. The ComPactsinparticular offer you this possibility.
The light source, boththe flash tubeand the modelling light, is placed highand free in the
flash head. This makes it easier for you toadjust the light and use your creativity.
The reflectors are moveableand lock easily into place. By moving the position ofthe reflector
you can get ahigher or lowerconcentrationof light in the center or moreof a flood light.
This is not new, of course. Our flash heads havealways been designed thatway.What is new,
however, is our newglass cover,whichis designed to increase precision. The ComPacts are
supplied with a frostedand uncoated glasscover,which together with the flash tube, produce
a colour temperature adapted todaylight colour film. Thereare glass covers with varying
filtration,forgreater diversity.
The whole ComPact system is modular.Every single reflectorand accessory createsits
special light and theunique Profoto focusingsystem offers you a possibility to createyour
own distinctive light usingonly a few reflectors.

.Install the enclosed plug-in board in the panel to recivethe correct
operatingvoltage.
.Check that the unit is set to the correct mains voltage (the plug-in board
on the panel).
.Check that the modelling lamp has the correct mains voltage.
.Connect the supplied mains cable· Turnon the unit with the “on” switch(ON).

VOLTAGESELECTION(1)
You can choose between two voltage ranges, 90-130V,
60Hz or 180-260V, 50 Hz. The generator should be
switched off.Voltage selection is done by pulling out
and turning the plug-in board on therear panel of the
generator.Youcansee the correct mains voltage on the
top of the card, USE ON … VOLTSONLY. Make sure
you insert the card STRAIGHT.
MAINS (AC) CONNECTION (2)
The generatoris designed forACconnectiononly. It can
be connected to the most common mains voltages:
90-130V,60Hz or 180-260V,50Hz.Beforemains
connection make sure that the operating voltage key
card matches (plug-in board) the mains voltage.
When charging the mains voltage the modelling lamp
must also be changed.Connect the unit to themains
with the cable included in the delivery.
WARNI NG! Never useordinary household extension
cords to extend the power cable. They may overheat.

CHARGING(3)
Beforecharging,check that the plug-in board is showing
the correct voltage. The charging time varies somewhat,
depending on the power you selected and themains
voltage.Thecharging time isshortestatthelowestpower
andhighestvoltage.Youusetheswitch marked ON to
start charging. The ComPact600and 1200Wsareboth
equipped with automatic protection (cutout) against
overheating, which switches off charging. When the
temperaturedrops,the cutout resets automatically.
This protects the unit against serious faults that could
otherwise result from overheating.

MODELLING LAMP (4)
The modelling light consists of a lamp thatis fed directly
from the mains. It is therefore important to check that
the lamp has a rated voltage that matches that ofthe
mains.Thelamp supplied as standard is a 150 - 250W
halogen lamp with an E27 base (ComPactSpecial 300
and ComPactSpecial600)or a 500W halogen lamp with
an E11Minicanbasewiththe ComPact1200.
The ComPact300andComPact600canalsobe
supplied with a normal 100Wlampwithan E27base.
Toimprove the correspondence between the modelling
light and flash, the flash tube and modellinglampis
enclosed in a frosted glass cover (standard inallmodels
with halogen modelling lamps).

The ready lamp/test button has two functions. First, it
lights up when the unit is fully charged.Second,it can
be used to manually sync (trigger) the unit(openflash).
When a lower energy setting is chosen , triggera flash
so that the unit can recycle for the new energysetting.
PHOTOCELL
The units has a built-in photocell. The photocell in
the unit serves as a slave sync whenanother flash is
triggered.Thephotocell is automatically disabled
when a sync cable is plugged in.

Synchronize by connecting the synchro cable from the
cameratothe synchro input. When the synchro cable is
connected the built-in photo-cell will be disabled.
ACOUSTICSIGNAL (8)
The unit’s acoustic signal system “beeps” when fully
charged.Youcan switchoffthe acousticsignalby pressingthe”sound”buttonso that itisintheraisedposition.
ENERGYCONTROL(9)
Theenergyoutputrangeinthe ComPact300is controlled
continuosly over 3 f-stops and over 5f-stops for the
ComPact600and1200.Theenergy control dial
has settings on a continuous scale between 1/1, 1/2
and 1/4fortheComPact300and between1/1, 1/2,
1/4,1/8and1/16forthe ComPact600and1200.
There are intermediate marks for every third ofan
aperture setting.Whenever you reduce the power
setting,you must release a flash. The generator will
then charge up to the lower power levelyouselected.

The modelling light can be set to followthechosen
energy output proportionally (PROP) or set to max
(MAX) regardless of the energy output. The light can
also be turned off completely (OFF).
FLASHTUBES (11)
Pyrexflashtubesare includedinstandardComPactand
ComPactdeliveries.Forheavy duty usageQuartz flash
tubes are recommended. Delivery on request.
The ComPact1200 is delivered with a UV-reduced
quartz flashtube. The flash tube has two metal pinsfor
insertion into the unit. When removing a flash tube,pull
it straightout of the sockets. When inserting a connection clasps properly around the flash tube.

SPANNUNGSUMSCHALTER(1)
Es kann zwischen 90 - 130 V,60 Hzoder 180-260V,
50 Hz gewählt werden.Der Generator muß dabei ausgeschaltet sein. Die Spannungsumschaltung geschieht
mit der Steckkarte auf der Rückseite desGenerators.
Die gewählte Spannung kann auf der oberen Seite der
Karte abgelesen werden, ”USE ON … VOLTSONLY”.
Ziehen Sie die Karte heraus, drehen Sie diese zum
WechselderSpannungum undschiebensieanschließend
wieder ein. Zum leichteren Herausziehen der Karte
kann man einen Draht durch das Loch in ihrer Rückseite
schieben. Bei Betrieb an 180-260Vbitteunbedingteine
entsprechende Einstellampe verwenden.
NETZANSCHLUß(2)
Die Gerätekönnen an die weltweit gängigen Spannungen 90 - 130 V, 60 Hz oder 180 - 260 V, 50 Hz angeschlossen werden.Vergewissern Sie sich, daß die
Netzspannung richtig eingestellt ist. Der Anschluß
geschieht mit dem mitgelieferten Netzkabel. Spezielle
Netzkabel für unterschiedliche Länder sind als Zubehör
lieferbar.
AUFLADUNG(3)
Bevor Sie mit der Aufladung beginnen, kontrollieren Sie,
ob die Steckkarte auf die richtige Spannungeingestellt
ist. Die Ladezeit hängt von der gewählten Energie und
der aktuellen Netzspannung ab. Bei geringster Energie
und höchster Netzspannung erhalten Sie die kürzeste
Ladezeit. Der Ladevorgang beginnt durch Betätigung
des Hauptschalters auf ON. ComPact 600 und 1200Ws
sind mit einem automatischen Überhitzungsschutz
(Sicherung) ausgerüstet, der im Notfallden
Ladevorgangabschaltet.WenndieTemperaturgesunken
ist, wird der Ladevorgang automatisch fortgesetzt.
Dadurch wird das Aggregat vor ernsthaften Folgeschäden,die durchÜberhitzungentstehenkönnen,geschützt.

EINSTELLAMPE (4)
Das Einstellicht besteht aus einer Lampe, die ihre
Energie direkt von der Netzspannung erhält. Daherist es
besonders wichtig zu überprüfen, daß die Netzspannung
mit der Spannung der Lampe übereinstimmt. Als Standart wird eine Halogenlampe wie folgt geliefert: 150 250WmitE 27Sockel(ComPactSpezial300undComPactSpezial600)oder500WmitE 11MinicanSockel
für ComPact1200.ComPact300 und ComPact600 können auch mit einer Opallampe 100WmiteinemE 27
Sockel ausgestattet werden. Um eine bessere Übereinstimmung von Einstellicht und Blitz zu erhalten,istder
Blitzkopf mit einem matten Schutzglas ausgerüstet. Als
Zubehör sind klare Versionenlieferbar.BEVORSIE DIE
EINSTELLAMPE ODER BLITZRÖHREAUSTAUSCHEN,
ENTLADEN SIE DIE ENERGIE, INDEM SIE GLEICHZEITIGAUFDENTESTKNOPFDRÜCKENUNDDEN

Die Bereitschaftsanzeige hat zwei Funktionen. Zum
einen leuchtet sie grün, wenn das Aggregat vollständig
aufgeladen ist. Zum anderen ist sie auch derAuslöser
für einen manuellen Blitz (”Open Flash”). Wenn die
Lampe / der Knopf gedrückt wird, entlädt sichdie
gespeicherte Energie.Wird die Energie mit dem Regler
für Leistungseinstellung vermindert, muß anschließend
ein Blitz ausgelöst werden. Danach lädt sich dasGerät
auf die gewünschte Energie auf.
PHOTOZELLE
Das Geräthat eine interne Photozelle. Somit kann das
Gerätkannüber einen anderen Blitz ausgelöst werden.
Die Photozelle wird automatisch abgeschaltet, wenn ein
Synchronkabel angeschlossen ist.

Das Synchronkabel wird direkt vom Synchroneingang
an die Kameraangeschlossen. Sobald das Kabel angeschlossenist, wirddieimAggregateingebautePhotozelle
abgeschaltet.
Das Aggregat besitz ein akustisches Signal, das
vollständigeAufladungsignalisiert. Dies Tonsignal
kann durch Herausdrücken des Schalters ”Sound”
abgeschaltet werden.
ENERGIEREGULIERUNG(9)
Die Energie des ComPact300kannstufenlos über drei
Blendenstufen reguliert werden, bzw.überfünf
Blendenstufen bei ComPact600und 1200.
Beim ComPact300beträgtderRegelbereich 1/1-1/4,
bei ComPact600und12001/1-1/16der
Energie. Dazwischen gibt es Punkte für 1/3 Blendenstufen.Wirddie Leistung nach unten reguliert, muß
anschließend immer ein Blitz ausgelöst werden
– danach lädt sich das Gerät auf die gewünschte
Energie auf.DiesesVerfahren geht schneller und ist
mit wenigerWärmeentwicklungverbunden,als
automatisches ”Energy Dumping”.

EINSTELLICHT(10)
Das Einstellicht kann so eingestellt werden, so daßesder
gewähltenLeistung proportional (PROP) folgt, auf
maximaler (MAX) Helligkeit, unabhängig der gewählten
Energie, oder ganz abgestellt (OFF) bleibt.
BLITZKÖPFE(11)
Als Standart werden ComPact und ComPactmitUVgefilterten Blitzröhren aus Pyrexglas geliefert. Bei
extremer Belastung empfehlen wir jedoch Blitzröhren
aus Quarz, die auf Wunsch geliefert werden können.
ComPact1200 wird ausschließlich mit einer ozonfreien
und UV-reduziertenQuarz-Blitzröhre geliefert. Die
Blitzröhren haben zwei Steckkontakte. Beim Demontieren ziehen Sie die Röhre gerade aus dem Sockel. Um
einen guten Kontaktzu erhalten, müssen
Sie beim Montieren einer neuen Blitzröhre kontrollieren,
daß die Zündbügel diese umschließen und von dem
schmalen Metallband fest umschlossen werden.

.Avant d’utiliser votre ComPact, il est indispensable devérifier sila carte
sélection de voltage (voltage setting)est bien installée et surtout, dans la
position correspondant au secteur utilisé (110Vou 220V).
.Utiliser la proportionnalité de la lampe pilote en agissant sur le variateur
de puissance (afin d’avoir un rendu précis des ombres portés).

Chaque ComPactestlivréde série avec un tube éclair
traitéanti-UV.Pourretirerletube,tirez-le progressivement de son logement, dans l’axe de latorche,sans
fairevariersoninclinaison. Enlever auparavantle
système d’amorçage (bandes de métal permettant
d’assurer le bon contact de synchronisation). En enfichant le nouveau tube éclair,bienvérifierle bon
positionnement du système d’amorçage autour du
tube.Toujours utiliser des tubes éclairs d’origine
Profoto. Vous risquez dans le cas contraire d’obtenir
des malfonctionnements (refus de déclenchement,
durée de vie du tube réduite, qualité de lumière et
stabilité deTC moindres...).
Ne jamaistoucher le tube éclair avec les doigts. Avant
tout changement, purgez le ComPact de son énergie
en appuyant sur le bouton test puis, sur l’interrupteur
marche/arrêt.

SELEZIONE DELLATENSIONE (1)
Possonoessereselezionate due diverse tensioni di lavoro:
90-130Ve60 Hz oppure 180-260Ve50Hz.Ilgeneratore
dovrà essere spento. La selezione della tensione desiderata si effettua per mezzo della scheda che va inserita
nel pannello posteriore del generatore. La giusta
tensione di alimentazione dovrà essere leggibile nel testo
che compare sulla parte superiore della scheda,USE
ON…VOLTONLY.
COLLEGAMENTOALLARETE(2)
L’apparecchiatura è progettata per lavorare con le
tensioni di alimentazione più comuni : 90-130V,60Hz
oppure 180-260V, 50Hz.Controllare che la tensione
selezionata corrisponda a quella della rete. Ilcollegamento va effettuato con l’apposito cavo in dotazione.
Primadellacarica controllare che la scheda inserita
riporti il giusto valore di tensione. Il tempodiricarica
variain funzione della potenza scelta e della tensionedi
alimentazione. Utilizzando la potenza più bassa e la
tensione di corrente più alta si ottieneiltempo di ricarica
più corto. La carica inizia quando ilcommutatoresi
trovanella posizione ON.I modelli ComPact 600 e 1200
Ws sono entrambi forniti di una protezione automatica
contro il surriscaldamento ( sicura ) che disattiva la funzione di carica. Quando la temperatura si è abbassata la
sicurasiriassettaautomaticamente. In questo modo si
protegge l’apparecchiaturadaiseri inconvenienti che
altrimenti sarebbero causati

La luce pilota è fornita da una lampada cheviene alimentata direttamente dalla corrente di rete. Perciò è
estremamente importatnte controllare che la lampada
sia marcata per un valore di tensione che corrisponde a
quello della rete di alimentazione. Come dotazione
standard viene consegnata una lampada alogena da

SPIADI CARICA”TEST”(5)
La spia di carica possiede due funzioni. Laprimaè quella
di emettere una luce verde quando l’apperecchiatura è
completamente carica. La seconda è quella di pulsantedi
scarica per far partire un lampo manuale ( open flash).
Quando la spia/pulsante viene premuta tutta l’energia
accumulata si scarica.Se si diminuisce l’energia del
lampo con il volantino per la regolazione dellapotenza,
bisogna prima scattare un flash, per dar modo algeneratore di ricaricarlo con la nuova impostazione di potenza
selezionata.
FOTOCELLULA
L’apparecchiatura possiede una fotocellula interna
incorporata.Lascarica dell’apparecchiaturapuòessere
fattapartireda un altro flash. La fotocellula si disinserisce automaticamente quando il cavo di sincronizzazione è collegato.

L’apparecchiatura possiede un sistema disegnalazione
acustica che indica quando la ricarica è completa.Questo
segnale acustico può essere disattivato rilasaciando il

modo continuo entro tre valori di diaframma. I modelli
ComPact600e1200invece entrocinque valori

regolazione è marcato 1/1 e la potenza.Nei modelli
ComPact600e1200invece lemarcature equivalgono a
1/1, 1/8 e 1/16dellapotenza.Traquestesono
presenti dei punti marcati per ogni terzapartedel
valoredi diaframma.Ognivolta che la potenza viene
diminuita, bisogna sempre scattare un flash, per dar
modo al generatore di ricaricarlo con la nuova

La luce pilota si può liberamente regolare in modo da
adattarlain manieraproporzionale ( PROP ) alla potenza
del lampo selezionata oppure da utilizzarla al massimo
( MAX ) del rendimento indipendentemente dalla
potenza scelta ovvero può anche essere completamente
esclusa ( OFF ).
TUBO FLASH (11)
Come dotazione standard i modelli ComPact e ComPact
vengono consegnati con un tubo flash in vetropyrexche
funge da filtro per le radiazioni ultraviolette. Perusiparticolarmente intensi vi consigliamo però di utilizzaredei
tubi flash in quarzo, iqualipossono essere consegnati su
richiesta.Il modello ComPact1200viene consegnatocon
un tubo flash che non produce ozono eche riduce le radiazioni ultravioletteIltuboflash possiede due piedini per
l’inserimento. Pertoglierlooccorre tirare dritto in fuori,
in modo da staccarlo dal suo alloggiamento. Perilmontaggio di un nuovo flash, assicurarsi che l’anello di
accensione avvolga il tubo e che la fascia metallica sia
ben stretta attorno ad esso in maniera
tale da fornire un buon contatto di sincronizzazione.
