2. Terminal Setup
To congure the system, connect a serial cable to a COM port on a PC or notebook
computer and to serial (console) port of the Switch. The console port of the Switch
is DCE already, so that you can connect the console port directly through PC
without the need of Null Modem.
A terminal program is required to make the software connection to the Switch.
Windows’ Hyper Terminal program may be a good choice. It can be accessed
from the Start menu. Click START, then Programs, Accessories and then Hyper
Terminal.
MS-DOS based terminal program such as PC-PLUS, PROCOMM, can also make the
connection with the Switch. The COM port should be congured as:
□ Baud : 9600
□ Parity : None
□ Data bits : 8
□ Stop bits : 1
□ Flow Control : None
3. Logon to the Console
Once the hardware connection and the terminal program are ready, power on the
Switch. The terminal program will display the testing procedures of the Switch and
show in Figure 3-1.

After boot up is complete, the “switch>” prompt shows up. Enter “enable” for
further conguration. A prompt then shows up for password, please enter “admin”
to enter. As show in Figure 3-2.

Figure 3-3 List commands
1. For security reason, please change and memorize the new password after this first setup.
2. Only accept password in lowercase letter under console inter-
face.
4. Congure IP address
The default IP address of the Switch is “192.168.0.100”. If you want to change
the IP address, for example, change the IP address to “192.168.99.234” with
subnet mask. “255.255.255.0”, please enter the
command:
set system ip 192.168.99.234 255.255.255.0
As show in Figure 4-1.
Figure 4-1 Set IP address
Now the IP address has changed to 192.168.99.234. The changed IP address will
remain the original after reboot unless you save the conguration. To do this, enter
“copy cong ash” to save the conguration. As show in Figure 4-2.

5. Start Web Management
Note
The Switch can be fully managed by console. It also provides a convenient Web
management interface for remote management. This chapter guides the quick
access to the Web Management Interface of the Switch.
Since Web Management Interface can be accessed by Ethernet connection, the
administrator workstation must be in the same IP segment as the Switch.
For example, if you do not change the default IP address of the Switch, say
192.168.0.100, you must set the IP address of your administrator workstation to
be 192.168.0.x (where x is a number between 1 and 254, except 100) with subnet
mask is 255.255.255.0.
Then use the Internet browser (Internet Explorer 5.0 or above), and go to
http://192.168.0.100. Enter the default username “admin” default password
“admin” for login, and the main screen as gure 5-1 appears.
Default IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Default Username and Password: admin
The following screen based on WGSW-2840, for other Layer 2
Management Switch that mentioned in chapter 1, the display will
be the same to WGSW-2840.

You can either manage the Switch through the Web interface or through the
console. Please also refer to the user’s manual in the CD-ROM for more information
about the Switch and the management.
