Safety and notice
Read and understand all instructions before you use this product. If damage is caused by failure to follow the instructions, the warranty does not apply.
Safety
Only use attachments/accessories specied by the manufacturer.
The product shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing.
Do not place any sources of danger on the product (e.g. liquid lled objects,
lighted candles). Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) shall not be exposed to excessive
heat such as sunshine, re or the like.
Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.
Risk of swallowing batteries! (for PD9048 only)
The product or remote control may contain a button cell battery, which is possible to be swallowed. Keep the battery out of reach of children at all
times! If swallowed, the battery can cause serious injur y or death. Severe
internal burns can occur within two hours of ingestion.
If you suspect that a battery has been swallowed or placed inside any part of the body, seek immediate medical attention.
When you change the batteries, always keep all new and used batteries out of reach of children. Ensure that the battery compartment is completely secure after you replace the battery.
If the battery compar tment cannot be completely secured, discontinue use of the product. Keep out of reach of children and contact the manufacturer.

For rst-time use:
Remove the protective tab to activate the remote control battery.
To replace the remote control battery:
1 Open the batter y compartment.
2 Inser t one CR2025 battery with correct polarity (+/-) as indicated. 3 Close the batter y compartment.

Charge power
Charge through the AC power adaptor
Caution
• Risk of product damage! Ensure that the power supply voltage corresponds to the voltage printed
on the bottom of the player.
Note
• The type plate is located on the bottom of the player.
• You can only charge the player when it is in power-off mode.
1 Push the (CHR)OFF•POWER•ON slider to (CHR)OFF.

2 Connect the supplied AC adaptor to the player and to the AC outlet.
» The charge indicator turns on. » When the batter y is fully charged, the charge indicator turns off.
Tip
• To maximize battery life, recharge the battery immediately once the battery is fully dischar ged. If
you do not use the player for a long time, recharge the battery once ever y two months.

Charge through car adaptor
Connect the supplied car adaptor to the player and car cigarette lighter.
Switch the player on or off
1 To switch on, push the (CHR)OFF•POWER•ON slider to ON.
» The indicator turns on.
2 To switch off, push the slider to (CHR)OFF.
Select the language for onscreen instructions
You can choose a different language for the on-screen display text.
1 Press SETUP.
» The setup menu appears.

4 Play music or movies
Play from discs
1 Press SOURCE repeatedly to switch to the disc mode. 2 Press OPEN on the main unit to open the disc compar tment. 3 Inser t a disc with the label side facing up. 4 Push down to close the disc compartment.
» Play star ts automatically.
If a menu appears, select an item, then press /OKto start play.
To pause, press /OK. Press again to resume play.
To stop, press STOP twice.
To select the previous/next item, press PREVorNEXT.
To star t search within video/audio, press or once or more.
Play options
Select audio language
You can select an audio language on DVDs or DivX discs.
1 Press OPTIONS.
» The option menu is displayed.
2 Press / to select an audio language. 3 Press /OK to conrm.

During disc play, press AUDIO repeatedly on the remote control to select a language.
Select subtitle language
For DVDs that contain two or more subtitle languages.
1 Press OPTIONS.

During disc play, press SUBTITLE repeatedly on the remote control to
select a language.
Repeat
During play, you can select different repeat options.
1 Press OPTIONS.

2 Press navigation keys to select a repeat option.
For DVD
Repeat Off: switch off the repeat mode
Chapter: repeat the current chapter
Title: repeat the current title or track
All: repeat all titles on the disc
For VCD/MP3/CD/DivX
Repeat Off: switch off the repeat mode
Repeat One: repeat the current track
Repeat Folder: repeat all the tracks in current folder
3 Press /OK to conrm. 4 Press OPTIONS to exit.

Tip
• For VCDs, if PBC is on, you cannot repeat items.
Repeat a section (on the remote control)
You can repeat a specic section of audio/video within a title/chapter/track (repeat
A-B).

1 During play, at the chosen start point, press A-B on the remote control.

2 At the chosen end point, press A-B on the remote control again.
» [ AB] is displayed. » The selected section plays repeatedly.
3 Press A-B on the remote control to cancel.
Zoom (on the remote control)
For DVDs, VCDs and JPEG CDs, you can zoom in and out for video images or pictures.
1 Press ZOOM on the remote control repeatedly to zoom in and out. 2 When the video image or picture is enlarged, press
, to pan through it.
Rotate pictures
For JPEG CDs only. While the JPEG is displayed:
Press to rotate counter-clockwise.
Press to rotate clockwise.
Press to ip up/down.
Press to ip left/right.
Display play time
1 Press OPTIONS.
» The option menu is displayed.
2 Press navigation keys to select a time display option.

Adjust brightness of screen backlight
Note
You can adjusts brightness of the screen backlight to match lighting conditions.
During play, press repeatedly to select an option.

• For the longest playtime, select Dim.
• For the best view, select High.
Play from USB
You can play DivX, VOB, MP3, or JPEG les that are stored on a USB mass storage
device.
1 Connect the USB device to the player.
» The content menu is displayed.

Connect additional equipment
You can connect the player to a TV or an amplier to enjoy DVDs.
Caution
• Turn off your player before connecting to any additional equipment.
Match the color of the AV cables (the AV cable connected to the TV is not
supplied) with the jacks:
the yellow cable is for the yellow video jack.
the red/white cable is for the red/white audio jacks.

5 Watch TV
Note
• Before you star t, ensure that you have connected the antenna to the player.
Make sure you are in an area with sufcient signal coverage. You can check the signal coverage with
the TV broadcast authority of your country or visit www.philips.com/support.
Connect TV antenna
To watch analog TV programs on the player, connect one of the TV antennas to the player:
the supplied antenna, or
your home antenna.
Connect the antenna to the ANTENNA jack.
Tip
• For better reception, connect the player to home antenna.

Tune in to TV channels
1 Press SOURCE repeatedly to select the TV mode.
2 The rst time you switch to the TV mode, start auto search to search for
available TV channels:
a Press SETUP.
» A pop-up screen is displayed.

8 Troubleshooting
Warning
• Never remove the casing of this apparatus.
To keep the warranty valid, never try to repair the system yourself. If you encounter problems when using this apparatus, check the following points before requesting service. If the problem remains unsolved, go to the Philips web site (www.philips.com/support). When you contact Philips, ensure that the apparatus is nearby and the model number and serial number are available.
No power
Ensure that both plugs of the mains cord are properly connected.
Ensure that there is power at the AC outlet.
Check if the built-in battery is drained.
No sound
Ensure that the AV cable is connected correctly.
No response to the remote control (for PD9048 only)
Ensure that the path between the remote control and the player is clear from obstacles.
From a close distance, point the remote control directly at the player.
Replace the remote control batteries.
The function does not work for this disc. Refer to the disc instructions.
Distorted picture
Clean the disc. With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the disc outwards from the center.
Make sure that the video output format of the disc is compatible with the TV.
Change the video output format to match your TV or program.
The LCD is manufactured using high precision technology. You may, however, see tiny black points and/or bright points(red, blue, green) that continuously appear on the LCD. This is a normal result of the manufacturing process and does not indicate a malfunction.

Cannot play disc
Ensure the disc label is upwards.
Clean the disc. With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the disc outwards from the center.
Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.
No response to operating commands
The operation is not permitted by the disc.
The player feels warm
When the player is in use for a long period of time, its surface will be heated. This is normal.
No/weak signal displayed on the screen
TV signal is too weak or out of TV signal covering area.
Make sure you are in an area with sufcient coverage.
Connect to your home TV antenna socket.
Receiving TV in a driving car may cause signal problems.
TV reception with Black and White picture or no sound
Ensure that you set the TV type and TV system correctly according to local
TV broadcast specications. If you do not know the information, contact
local TV broadcast authorities for help.
