WARNING LIGHTS
A permanently lit warning light or one fl ashing, with the engine running, indicates an operating fault of the unit concerned. The illumination of certain warning lights may be accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display. Do not ignore this warning: consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
If the central STOP warning light comes on when you are driving, stop your vehicle immediately, where it is safe to do so.
Central STOP warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ig-
nition is switched on. Linked to the warning lights:
- "engine oil pressure and temperature",
- "punctured wheel",
- "maximum coolant temperature",
- "handbrake", "low brake fl uid
level", and "electronic brake force distribution".
You must stop if the light comes on with the engine running.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Engine oil pressure and temperature
warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
Linked to the central STOP warning light.
If this warning light comes on, with the engine running, it indicates one of the following:
- insuffi cient oil pressure,
- a lack of oil in the lubrication circuit. Top up the level,
- an oil temperature which is too high. The warning light is accompanied by an audible signal. To lower the oil temperature, reduce your speed.
You must stop. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Service warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
If this warning light comes on, with the engine running, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, it indicates the occurrence of a problem in one of the systems which
does not have a specifi c warning light.
Consult the message on the multifunction display to identify the system concerned.
Check:
- the remote control battery,
- the pressure of the tyres,
- the engine oil level,
- the screenwash level,
- the condition of the bulbs. For all other cases, contact a PEUGEOT
dealer. The lighting of this warning light may
also indicate the start of saturation of
the particle emission fi lter (Diesel),
due to exceptionally prolonged urban driving conditions: low speed, long
traffi c jams, ... In order to regenerate the fi lter, you
are advised to drive, as soon as traf-
fi c conditions permit, at a speed of
35 mph (60 km/h) or more for at least
fi ve minutes (until the warning light
switches off). If the warning light remains on, contact
a PEUGEOT dealer.
Punctured wheel
warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
Linked to the central STOP warning light.
If this warning light comes on while the vehicle is moving, it indicates that one or more wheels are punctured.
It is accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display locating the wheel concerned.
You must stop. Change the damaged wheel and
have it repaired by a PEUGEOT dealer.
Maximum coolant temperature warning
light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
Linked to the central STOP warning light.
If this warning light comes on, with the engine running, it indicates an abnormal increase in the temperature of the coolant.
You must stop. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) warning
light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
If the warning light remains on or comes on above 8 mph (12 km/h), this indicates an ABS malfunction.
Electronic stability control system (ESP/ASR) warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
While the engine is running and the
vehicle is moving, it fl ashes if the
system is activated. It comes on permanently when it is
disarmed.
Battery charge warning
light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
If it comes on, with the engine running, it indicates one of the following:
- faulty operation of the charging
circuit,
- slack battery or starter terminals,
- a cut or slack alternator belt,
- an alternator failure. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Handbrake, low brake fluid level and Electronic Brake Force Distribution
warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
Linked to the central STOP warning light.
If this warning light comes on, with the engine running, it indicates one of the following:
- that the handbrake is applied or not fully released, if the vehicle is moving,
- an excessive drop in brake fl uid
level (if the warning light remains on even when the handbrake is released),
- a fault in the Electronic Brake Force Distribution.
You must stop. Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
However, the vehicle retains conventional servo-assisted braking.
Lighting of this warning light, accompanied by an audible signal, indicates an ABS fault.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Low fuel level warning
light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
When this light fi rst comes on, you
have enough fuel to drive approximately 30 miles (50 km) (The tank
capacity is approximately 40 litres).
Water in diesel filter indicator
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
If it comes on, with the engine running, this indicates that there is a risk of
damage to the injection system.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer as soon as possible.
Diesel engine pre-heat
warning light
Wait until the warning light goes out before starting the engine.
If the temperature is high enough, the warning light comes on for less than one second. You can start the engine without waiting.
Passenger air bag disarmed warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
If the passenger air bag is disarmed, the warning light remains on.
Always consult a PEUGEOT dealer if
the warning light fl ashes.
Seat belt not fastened
warning light
When the ignition is switched
on, this warning light comes on if the driver (and/or a passenger) has not fastened his seat belt.
Above 12 mph (20 km/h), this warning
light fl ashes for two minutes accom-
panied by an audible signal which becomes progressively louder. Once the two minutes have elapsed, the warning light remains on until the driver (and/or passenger) fastens his seat belt.
The driver must ensure that all
passengers fasten and use the seat belts correctly.
Door open warning light
This comes on if a door, the
bonnet or the boot is still open. Above 6 mph (10 km/h), this warning
light is accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display.
"Foot on brake"
warning light
("2 Tronic" gearbox)
When this warning light comes on, you must put your foot on the brake (example: when starting the engine).
If you do not put your foot on the
brake, this warning light fl ashes.
Front, steering column, side and curtain air bags warning light
This comes on for a few seconds each time the ignition is switched on.
With the engine running, illumination of this warning light, accompanied by an audible signal, indicates a fault in the front, steering column, side or curtain air bags.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
Emission control system warning light
This comes on each time the ignition is switched on and remains on until the engine is started.
If it comes on, with the engine running, it indicates a malfunction of the emission control system.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
INSTRUMENT PANEL
After switching on the ignition, three functions are shown in succession:
- service indicator,
- engine oil level indicator
- total distance recorder (total and trip distances).
Note: the trip distance is displayed for thirty seconds, when the ignition is switched off, on opening and closing the driver’s door as well as on locking the vehicle.
It also displays the "2 Tronic" gearbox positions and operating modes selected, as well as the information relating to the cruise control or speed limiter when one of these functions is active.
Engine oil level indicator
When the ignition is switched on, the engine oil level is indicated for approximately 5 seconds after the service indicator display.
Oil level correct
Lack of oil
If "OIL" fl ashes and the service warning light comes on, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction display, this indicates a lack of oil which could damage the engine.
If the lack of oil is confi rmed by a
check using the dipstick, it is essential that the level is topped up.
Oil level gauge fault
Check the oil level using the dipstick.
If "OIL --" fl ashes, this indicates a malfunction of the engine oil level gauge.
Consult a PEUGEOT dealer.
The level read on the dipstick will only be correct if the vehicle is on level ground and the engine has been off for more than 15 minutes.
Service indicator
This indicates when the next service is due in accordance with the manufacturer’s servicing schedule.
The point at which the next service is due is calculated from the last indicator zero reset. It is determined by two parameters:
- the distance travelled,
- the time which has elapsed since the last service.
Operation
When the ignition is switched on, the spanner symbolising the servicing operations comes on; the distance recorder display indicates the number of miles [kilometres] (rounded off) remaining until the next service.
Example: 4,800 miles/km remain be-
fore the next service. For fi ve seconds
after the ignition is switched on, the display indicates:
10 seconds after the ignition was switched on, the distance recorder resumes its normal operation and the display indicates the total or trip distance.
The distance remaining to the next service is less than 500 miles/1,000 km.
Example: 400 miles/900 km remain before the next service.
For 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on, the display indicates:
10 seconds after the ignition was switched on, the distance recorder resumes its normal operation and the spanner remains lit.
It indicates that a service must be carried out soon. The display indicates the total or trip distance.
The service is overdue.
The spanner fl ashes for 5 seconds
each time the ignition is switched on.
Example: the service is overdue by 300 miles/km, your vehicle must be serviced as soon as possible.
For 5 seconds after the ignition is switched on, the display indicates:
10 seconds after the ignition was switched on, the distance recorder resumes its normal operation and the spanner remains lit.
The display indicates the total or trip distance.
The distance remaining before the next service may be weighted by the time factor, depending on the user’s driving habits.
The spanner may also come on if more than two years have elapsed since the last service.
Service indicator zero re-set
Your PEUGEOT dealer carries out this operation after each service.
However, if you carry out the service yourself, the re-set procedure is as follows:
 Switch off the ignition,  Press and hold the trip recorder
re-set button,
 Switch on the ignition. The display begins a countdown. When the display shows "=0" , release
the button; the spanner disappears.
After this operation, if you wish to disconnect the battery, lock the vehicle and
wait for at least fi ve minutes,
otherwise the zero re-set will not be registered.
Total/trip distance recorder
Briefl y pressing the button alternates
between the total and trip distance displays.
To reset the trip distance recorder to zero, when it is displayed press the button until zeros appear.
Lighting rheostat
With the lights on, press the button to vary the intensity of the lighting of the instruments and controls. When the lighting reaches the required brightness, release the button.

Range
(km or miles)
This indicates the number of miles (or kilometres) which can still be travelled with the fuel remaining in the tank in relation to the average consumption over the last few miles (kilometres) travelled.
This fi gure may increase fol-
lowing a change of driving style or relief, resulting in a
signifi cant change in the cur-
rent consumption.
When the range falls below 20 miles (30 km), dashes are displayed. After
fi lling with at least 5 litres of fuel, the
range is recalculated and is displayed when it exceeds 60 miles (100 km).
If dashes are displayed continuously while driving in place of the digits, contact a PEUGEOT dealer.
Current consumption
(l/100 km or km/l or mpg)
This is the average quantity of fuel consumed over the last few seconds.
This function is only displayed from 20 mph (30 km/h).
