BNC ADAPTER
Introduction
The PASCO BNC Adapter is included with the WA-9612
Resonance Tube and with the WA-9613 Driver/Detector
Coils that are used with the WA-9611 Sonometer. The
adapter is intended to allow you to connect the BNC plug of
the microphone of the Resonance Tube or the Detector Coil
of the Sonometer to a Voltage Sensor that is attached to a CI6550 (Mac65) or CI-6565 (Win65) Computer Interface.
➤ NOTE: If you wish to connect the Resonance
Tube or Sonometer to a Series 6500 Computer Interface (CI-6500 or AI-6501), you will need the
PASCO CI-6508 Input Adapter Box.
Connecting the Adapter Plug
The adapter has a female BNC connector at one end, and
dual banana jacks at the other. Slip the male BNC connector from the apparatus onto the female BNC connector
on the adapter. Twist the male BNC connector one-quarter turn clockwise to lock it into place.
Using the
Here is a method for displaying data from the Detector Coil
of the Sonometer using the Science Workshop program:
• Prepare the interface and apparatus. Start Science
Workshop . In the Experiment Setup window, clickand-drag the analog sensor plug icon to Analog Channels A or B. Select “Sound Sensor” from the list of
sensors. This will automatically set the Sensitivity
(gain) to X100. Click-and-drag the Scope data display
icon to the Sound Sensor icon.
• Adjust the Scope so it can display the signal from the
sensor. The sensitivity and sweep speed will depend on
the experimental setup. For example, if you are using the
Sonometer with the medium gauge wire (017), 60 cm
between the bridges, a one kilogram mass on the second
notch of the tensioning lever, and a driving frequency of
130 Hz and 5 Volts, you may need to increase the volts/
division (sensitivity) to about 0.010 or 0.020 v/div and
the sweep speed to 1.00 or 2.00 ms/div.

Insert the banana plug ends of the Voltage Sensor into the
banana jacks of the adapter (black plug to black jack and
red plug to red jack). Connect the Voltage Sensor to Analog Channels A or B on the interface box.
