Section II Mechanical components

2.1 Drive mechanism of paper feed system

The paper feed system can have up to 3 stages of paper drawers installed. Each paper drawer is driven by a paper feed unit, and each paper feed unit is driven by the paper feed motor which is installed in the stand.

The rotation of the paper feed motor is transmitted to upper, middle, and lower drive gear by gear, paper feed system clutch, and transmission belt.

The middle roller gear of the paper feed unit is connected to the drive gear of paper feed system. The rotation of the paper feed motor is transmitted to the middle roller of the paper feed unit by the gear on the middle roller.

When the paper in the paper drawer is 50 sheets or less, the paper level sensor detects a low paper condition.

Mechanical

components

2-1

2.2 Operation of the paper feed unit

1)Structure of paper feed unit

Please refer to the paper feed section in the basic version of main body service manual of the copy machine.

2)Operation of paper feed unit

When the "Print" key is pressed, and the paper feed motor of system console rotates, the drive gear of the paper feed unit is driven by a drive gear, paper feed system clutch, and drive belt.

The drive gear is connected to the middle roller gear in the paper feed unit, so the middle roller gear is also driven at this time.

Next, the paper feed clutch turns on, after paper feed solenoid turns on and the pick up roller is pressed onto the paper in drawer. The pick up roller and paper feed roller rotate and the paper in the drawer is driven to the middle roller.

If paper is double fed, the bottom sheet is returned by the paper drawer double feed prevention (DFP) roller.

Paper pass sensor confirms the movement of paper from drawer.

When the paper pass sensor does not confirm the paper arrival after a predetermined time, "paper jam" location indicator turns on.

Through the above operation, paper, which is transmitted to the middle roller, is fed to the main body of the copy machine.

3)Lift mechanism of paper drawer

When the paper drawer is inserted, the lift lever is engaged with the coupling which drives the lift lever of the system console.

Then the lift motor rotates, the rotation is transmitted to the lifting lever drive gear by a gear, and by rotating the lift lever, the bottom plate of the drawer (and paper) is lifted.

When the bottom plate of the drawer (paper) is lifted, the paper upper limit sensor of the paper feed unit turns on and the rotation of the lift motor is stopped. This way, level of paper can be kept constant.

4)Paper detecting operation

When the paper drawer contains paper, the paper detecting sensor turns on. When there is no paper in the drawer, the paper detecting sensor lever drops into a slot in the bottom plate, the paper detecting sensor turns off and "no paper" is detected.

When the paper level becomes low, the "Add Paper" indication turns on and "low paper level" is detected.

Section IV Electrical components

4.1 Electrical Components Operation

The circuit construction of the electrical components in system console is shown in

the figure.

Here, the upper stage is explained.

When the paper feed drawer is inserted into the system console, the combination of low level, and upper limit sensors tell the CPU to switch, the transistor base of IC602 to 0v. Then, DT602 is turned off. Transistor Q601 is turned on energizing the lift motor, rotating it.

When paper reaches the upper limit (by the lift motor), the sensor lever attached to the paper upper limit detecting sensor is lifted up and actuates the sensor. The signal from the paper upper limit detecting sensor (LBSN1) goes high and turns on transistor DT603, turning off transistor Q601, and stopping the lift motor. The signal is inputted into and read by IC606.

When copying starts, the paper feed motor and the system console paper feed roller clutch are turned on. If the upper paper drawer is selected, the upper paper feed roller clutch is turned on. After the paper feed solenoid is turned on, the paper in the drawer is sent to the copier by the paper transfer roller and the paper feed roller.

When paper reaches the paper pass sensor, the sensor lever detects paper passing. Photosensors such as the paper detecting sensor output 0v when the sensor levers are detected by paper passing and 5V when no paper is present.
