This document provides the steps to use when upgrading CF-F8, CF-W8 and CF-T8 Series from the Microsoft

WindowsVista®Businessoperating system(32-bit)toWindows®7(32-bit).

Before upgrading,pleaseconfirminformationsuchasrestrictions after upgrading toWindows®7 inthewebpageof

"Windows®7supportevaluationinformation".*

To upgradefromWindows XPtoWindows7,“clean install”is required.

(Onlyformodels with Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, orWirelessWAN)During upgrading,you willbeprompted toturnon

thewirelessswitch.Youmuststartupgradingwhere youareallowedtoemitsuch radio.

Insome cases, you should notupgrade toWindows® 7.Read allthedocumentation before youstart upgrading your OS.

2-2.Detailprocedurefor upgrading

WindowsVista

All ofthesteps(Downloadtheupgradeprograms,extracting files,and installing

the driversandapplications)shouldbedonebythesame administratoraccount.

Caution When using user name included "@" mark before or after the name such as "@username" or "username@" before upgrading to Windows 7, you may not be able to log on using the name after upgradingtoWindows7. Ifyou happened touse “@”markbeforeor after thename,create a newuser account without "@"mark asadministrator.If you justchange the existing user account to different user name, it won't work to fix the problem.

Step1:Preparations thatarenecessaryfor upgrading (OS:WindowsVista)

Prepare following itemsbeforeupgrading.

 ACAdaptor(ConnecttoyourPCwhen upgrading.)  BatteryPack(InserttoyourPCwhenupgrading.)  SetupDVD-ROMforWindows7 ProfessionalorUltimate(32-bit)  ProductRecoveryDVD-ROMforyourPC.  ExternalDVDDrive(for CF-T8Series only)  Informationfor Windows 7 about theapplications thatyou installedto your PCand the peripherals you use for

yourPC.

Step2:BackupImportant Data (OS: Windows Vista)

Youshouldbackupfilesthatyou createdinthe harddrive to a safelocation(totheexternalmedia– external hard

drive,memorycard,re-writable DVDandsoon),beforeupgradingtoWindows7.

Itisstronglyrecommendedtocreateabackupofthewhole Cdriveusing“Windows CompletePCbackup”.

Somesettings forthe applications cannot besucceededthe settings which areset on theWindowsVista. Please write down thenecessarysettings beforeupgrading. Andsetthenecessarysettingagainaftersetup Windows7 and theapplicationsforWindows7.

Step3:Downloading theprogramsforupgradingandextracting tothe harddrive (OS:WindowsVista)

1) Download the update programs for your PC from the Support Web, and save them to the hard drive or externalmedia (e.g.externalhard drive,memorycard, rewritableDVDandsoon).

Thefilesare differentdependingonthemodel. Pleasedownload thefilesofthecorresponding model on thedownload pageofeachmodel.

2) Extractsallofthe downloadedfiles according tothefollowingprocedure.

(1) Double-clickthedownloadedfile. (2) At[UserAccountControl]screen,click[Allow]. (3) When thelicenseagreementappears,readcarefullythelicenseagreements, andthenclick[Yes(Y)]. (4) When the[DestinationLocation]screenappears,youdon’tneedtochangefromdefaultdestination.

Thedefaultdestinationis[c:\Util2]. Click [OK].

(5) Waitupto30seconds,then theextractingfinishes.

Themessage[Unpackingoffilescompleted.] appearswhenextractingfinishes. Click [OK].

Caution

amt_4.2.0.1020_xxxxxxxx_d091353.exe canbeextracted onlywhenAMTsettingisenabled. IfAMT isnotenabled themessage[ThismachinedoesNOTsupport] appears. [Onlyformodels withBluetooth] For extracting bluet_ver7.00.08(p)_xxxxxxxx_d091315.exe, wireless switch (WIRELESS) should be turnedon.

Step4:UninstallofWindowsVista applications andupdating drivers(OS: WindowsVista)

Uninstall theprogramsthat donotwork on theWindows7 environment,andthe programsthat cause theproblems

forupgradingtoWindows7.

Some applications that you installed on the Windows Vista environment may cause the trouble when upgrading.

UninstalltheseprogramsmanuallybeforesetupWindows7.

Following applications preinstalledonCF-F8,CF-W8 andCF-T8Seriesshouldbeuninstalled.

*Powersettingmaybetemporarilychangedwhenupdatingdriver.

Inthiscase,PanasonicPowerPlan ExtensionUtilitydisplays themessage[Thepowerplan hasbeenswitched.]. Inthiscase,click[OK].
