Display Rotation Tool
Precaution
The Display Rotation Tool can be used in the only following modes:
800 x 600, High Color [16 bit] 800 x 600, 256 Color
When a moving picture is played with one of the applications below, there may be times when the display will be unable to be rotated. In such cases, the moving picture should be played after the display is rotated.
Windows Media Player ActiveMovie Direct Draw applications MPEG overlay
When an external monitor is connected, the image on the external monitor will be simultaneously rotated. During display rotation, it is not possible to change the display output location by pressing Fn + F3 .
The full screen display of the [MS-DOS prompt] during display rotation is shown in
the standard display direction. (The operation of the touch pad accommodates the rotation.)
In the full screen display of the [MS-DOS prompt], it is not possible to rotate the
display.
The screen of the optional LCD monitor (CF-VDL01) can be rotated. In this case,
the location of the pointer on the LCD monitor is not rotated.
During display rotation, when returning the Windows to its original size by pressing
Alt + Enter in the full screen display of the [MS-DOS prompt], the screen may
become completely black. In such case, return the Windows to its original size after rotating the display. We recommend not rotating the display when the path of the cursor has been set to be display ed and [Scheme] (in [Start] - [Settings] - [Control P anel] -[Mouse] - [Pointer]) has been changed, since the movement of the cursor will become extremely slow.
When the display is being rotated, a moving image may not be displayed correctly if
an application using a CD+ is run.
When the message “Cannot rotate display . There is DirectDraw application running”
is displayed, close all applications currently running. If there is no change in the situation (after all applications currently running are closed), restart Windows.
When the display is rotated, there is a slight drop in the overall performance. For
example, the speed for using the serial port becomes slow.
When the n umber of points of calibration for Touchscreen is changed, be sure to run
[Calibrate] before rotating the display.
After the display is rotated, it takes about four seconds before the touchscreen can
be used. In this case, do not enter the standby or hibernation mode.
A rotated display state is cancelled when entering the standby/hibernation mode or
displaying the [Display Properties] screen.
A rotated display state may be cancelled if certain screensavers are activated. During a drag operation, the cursor may appear to fly from its actual location.

In addition, when restarting from the hibernation mode, do not use the touch pad or keyboard, or press the power switch, until Windows completely resumes. (After the resume processing screen is displayed, nothing will appear on the dis-
play for 5 - 35 seconds, but the Windows display will appear soon after that.) Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode during the following periods (you may corrupt your data or file):
•While the floppy disk drive being accessed or HDD indicator ( ) is on.
• While playing/recording audio files.
• While communications software is being used. Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode during the following periods. The standby or hibernation function may not work, or the computer (or peripherals) may fail to work properly.
• When a file in an external device such as a CD-ROM drive, external hard disk, or
ATA card is opened, the standby or hibernation function may not work. In such cases, close the file.
• LAN cards (port), SCSI cards and modem cards (port) etc. may not recover after
entering the standby or hibernation mode. If this occurs, restart the computer.
Windows 98 Windows 2000
• When a USB device is in use or is connected to the computer (note: only for some
USB devices). If this occurs, remove the USB device temporarily and restar t the
computer. Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode when using an operating system other than the one that comes with your computer, the Setup Utility, or when experiencing static electricity or noise. If you hold down on Alt , Ctrl or Shift to enter the standb y or hibernation mode, after resuming operation, you must press the same key. For example, if you hold down on Shift while pushing the po w er s witch, upon resuming, if you do not press again, only capital letters will result from typing.
Shift Slide the power switch and hold it for more than four seconds to power off the computer only when the computer locks up. Data not previously saved will be lost. In the standby mode, power is consumed. If PC Cards are inser ted, more of that power is consumed. When all power has been consumed, all data saved at standby is lost since it is retained in memory. We therefore recommend plugging in the AC adaptor when using the standby function. If the standby or hibernation function is used repeatedly, the computer may not work properl y. To stabilize computer operations, we recommend shutting down Windows ([Start]-[Shut Down]) on a regular basis (about once a week) without using the standby or hibernation function. The screen that is displayed when resuming from the hibernation mode may be different from the screen that is displayed before entering the hibernation mode.

Standby/Hibernation Functions
Windows 98 Windows NT
When [Hibernation] is not displayed in [Power Switch] of the [Power] menu in the Setup Utility, the hibernation specific partition on the hard disk is not available. Reinstall the OS to create the partition by using the Product Recovery CD-ROM.
Windows 98
When both [Tur n off monitor] (in [Control Panel] - [Power Management] - [Power Schemes]) and [Screen Saver] (in [Control Panel] - [Display] - [Screen Saver]) are set, there are cases operations cannot resume in a normal manner from the standby or hibernation mode. When the screensaver setting is active, do not enter the standby or hibernation mode while the [MS-DOS Prompt] is being displayed. There are cases operations cannot resume in a normal manner. When the computer resumes from the standby/hibernation mode when MS-DOS is running, the screen may become completely black. In such cases, press Alt + Tab . If you are using a PC card, note that some cards may cease to function if the standb y or hibernation function is used several times. When this occurs, immediately shut down Windows without using the standby or hibernation function.

Windows NT
Confirm that Phoenix APM 2.0 for Windows NT® is installed, in order for the date and time to be normally displayed with the hibernation function. (If [APM 2.0 for NT] is displayed in [Control Panel], this means that the program is installed.) Do not enter the hibernation mode before logging on. The computer will no longer generate a sound and will not function properly. Manually set the computer in the hibernation mode when not using the computer, since there are cases the hibernation timeout may not work properly.
