Do not use benzene or thinner, or disinfectant-type alcohol.
Touchscreen
Your computer is equipped with a touchscreen function allowing you to perfor m the
same operations as the touch pad or mouse by touching the surface of the displa y with

Do not operate the computer when such things as dust are on the screen. Do not
allow substances, such as oil to contact the LCD. The cursor may not work properly in such cases.
When the touchscreen becomes dirty:
Wipe to remove dirty areas by using a dry soft cloth (included).
Do not use benzene or thinner, or disinfectant-type alcohol.
(For more inf ormation, refer to “Suggestions About Cleaning the LCD Surface” that
comes with the soft cloth.)
Handling the Stylus
Clean the stylus tip and screen prior to operation. Foreign par ticles can scratch
the screen and impede the operation of the stylus.
Use the accessory stylus only on the wireless display screen. Using it for any other
purpose may damage the stylus and scratch the screen.
Do not use pencils, implements with sharp tips or hard objects for screen operations. The screen may be damaged as a result.

When connecting the serial device
The touchscreen is set so that Device 1 (touchscreen of the computer) and Device 2
(CF-VDL01 (optional) connected to the serial port of the port replicator) both operate.
When connecting the serial device to the serial por t of the port replicator, if Window s
does not start or the serial device does not work properly, change the settings of the
touchscreen driver with the following procedure.
1 Turn the computer off and remove the serial de vice connected to the serial port of the
port replicator.
2 Turn the computer on.
3 Logon the computer.

(optional)) is not connected to the serial port of the port replicator, the calibration of
Device 2 times out. In this case, carry out the calibration of Device 2 again with the
following procedure.

Windows 2000
Install the Display Rotation Tool by the following procedure.
1 Select [Start] - [Run], then input [c:\util\disprot\setup.exe] and select [OK].
2 Follow the on-screen instructions.
After installing Display Rotation Tool, the screen may become black for several
seconds when starting up Windows. This is not a malfunction.
By running the Display Rotation Tool, it is possible to rotate the LCD computer screen
180 degrees and to perform Touchscreen operations in the rotated mode.

Display Rotation Tool
Precaution
The Display Rotation Tool can be used in the only following modes:
800 x 600, High Color [16 bit]
800 x 600, 256 Color
When a moving picture is played with one of the applications below, there may be
times when the display will be unable to be rotated. In such cases, the moving
picture should be played after the display is rotated.
Windows Media Player
ActiveMovie
Direct Draw applications
MPEG overlay
When an external monitor is connected, the image on the external monitor will be
simultaneously rotated.
During display rotation, it is not possible to change the display output location by
pressing Fn + F3 .
The full screen display of the [MS-DOS prompt] during display rotation is shown in
the standard display direction. (The operation of the touch pad accommodates the
rotation.)
In the full screen display of the [MS-DOS prompt], it is not possible to rotate the
display.
The screen of the optional LCD monitor (CF-VDL01) can be rotated. In this case,
the location of the pointer on the LCD monitor is not rotated.
During display rotation, when returning the Windows to its original size by pressing
Alt + Enter in the full screen display of the [MS-DOS prompt], the screen may
become completely black. In such case, return the Windows to its original size after
rotating the display.
We recommend not rotating the display when the path of the cursor has been set to
be display ed and [Scheme] (in [Start] - [Settings] - [Control P anel] -[Mouse] - [Pointer])
has been changed, since the movement of the cursor will become extremely slow.
When the display is being rotated, a moving image may not be displayed correctly if
an application using a CD+ is run.
When the message “Cannot rotate display . There is DirectDraw application running”
is displayed, close all applications currently running. If there is no change in the
situation (after all applications currently running are closed), restart Windows.
When the display is rotated, there is a slight drop in the overall performance. For
example, the speed for using the serial port becomes slow.
When the n umber of points of calibration for Touchscreen is changed, be sure to run
[Calibrate] before rotating the display.
After the display is rotated, it takes about four seconds before the touchscreen can
be used. In this case, do not enter the standby or hibernation mode.
A rotated display state is cancelled when entering the standby/hibernation mode or
displaying the [Display Properties] screen.
A rotated display state may be cancelled if certain screensavers are activated.
During a drag operation, the cursor may appear to fly from its actual location.

After the display returns, the computer needs a short period of time to reinitialize.
This takes about 30 seconds. Do not shut down or restart Windows, or enter
either the standby or hibernation mode again during this time, as this may subse-

Do not install or remove peripherals while your computer is in the standby or
hibernation mode; abnormal operation may result.
When operation resumes, serial devices such as a mouse, modem or PC Cards
may not function properly. In such cases, you will need to restart your computer
or reinitialize the individual devices.
Avoid the following until the power is completely turned off when tur ning off the
computer by using the standby or hibernation functions, or resuming operation
from the standby or hibernation.
• Touch the keyboard (excluding password input), touch pad, or power switch.
• Connect or disconnect the AC adaptor.

In addition, when restarting from the hibernation mode, do not use the touch pad
or keyboard, or press the power switch, until Windows completely resumes.
(After the resume processing screen is displayed, nothing will appear on the dis-
play for 5 - 35 seconds, but the Windows display will appear soon after that.)
Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode during the following periods (you may
corrupt your data or file):
•While the floppy disk drive being accessed or HDD indicator () is on.
• While playing/recording audio files.
• While communications software is being used.
Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode during the following periods. The
standby or hibernation function may not work, or the computer (or peripherals) may
fail to work properly.
• When a file in an external device such as a CD-ROM drive, external hard disk, or
ATA card is opened, the standby or hibernation function may not work. In such
cases, close the file.
• LAN cards (port), SCSI cards and modem cards (port) etc. may not recover after
entering the standby or hibernation mode. If this occurs, restart the computer.
Windows 98 Windows 2000
• When a USB device is in use or is connected to the computer (note: only for some
USB devices). If this occurs, remove the USB device temporarily and restar t the
computer.
Do not enter the standby or hibernation mode when using an operating system other
than the one that comes with your computer, the Setup Utility, or when experiencing
static electricity or noise.
If you hold down on Alt , Ctrl or Shift to enter the standb y or hibernation mode,
after resuming operation, you must press the same key. For example, if you hold
down on Shift while pushing the po w er s witch, upon resuming, if you do not press
again, only capital letters will result from typing.
Shift
Slide the power switch and hold it for more than four seconds to power off the computer only when the computer locks up. Data not previously saved will be lost.
In the standby mode, power is consumed. If PC Cards are inser ted, more of that
power is consumed. When all power has been consumed, all data saved at standby
is lost since it is retained in memory. We therefore recommend plugging in the AC
adaptor when using the standby function.
If the standby or hibernation function is used repeatedly, the computer may not work
properl y. To stabilize computer operations, we recommend shutting down Windows
([Start]-[Shut Down]) on a regular basis (about once a week) without using the standby
or hibernation function.
The screen that is displayed when resuming from the hibernation mode may be different from the screen that is displayed before entering the hibernation mode.

time to be normally displayed with the hibernation function. (If [APM 2.0 for NT] is

Do not enter the hibernation mode before logging on. The computer will no longer
generate a sound and will not function properly.
