Phantom Ignition Module for CAN-Bus Vehicles
IGN-3
and Vehicles with Stop-Start Technology
Introduction and Features
The IGN-3 phantom ignition module is ideal for use in CAN-Bus vehicles, and vehicles with stop-start technology, commonly found in push-to-start vehicles, or Hybrid vehicles. It monitors the electrical activity in the vehicle and provides an ignition lead that provides voltage as soon as the engine is running (accessory function for CAN-Bus vehicles).
Wiring Information
Phantom Ignition Module for CAN-Bus Vehicles and Vehicles with Stop-Start Technology
IGN-3 is designed to provide up to 2 amps of output.
For installations demanding more current, the use of an external relay is required.
IGN-3
Made in China
1. Black - Connect to chassis ground
2. Blue - 12 volt output (once triggered) 2 amps max.
3. Red - Connect to Constant Power
4. Brown Loop - Uncut loop = 10 second delay
- Cut loop = 140 second delay
Operation
IGN-3 Power-on Function:
The IGN-3 module monitors the voltage level and noise on the constant power circuit to sense the starting of the engine and running of the alternator, and immediately turns on the phantom ignition output (Blue wire).
IGN-3 Power-off Delay Function: In many late-model vehicles, the alternator can shut off while the vehicle is driving, to maximize fuel economy. Other new
vehicles will shut the engine down when stopped at a red light, and start it up again when the accelerator is pressed.
The IGN-3 is designed with 2 different power-off delay settings, that can be used to compensate for these vehicle functions. A short delay of 10 seconds, or a long delay of 140 seconds are available, to provide consistent power to your aftermarket accessories, to ensure their proper operation during these partial power-down scenarios.
In the default setting (Brown loop wire uncut), after the vehicle’s engine is turned off, the Blue wire output will remain active for 10 seconds. If the Brown Loop wire is cut, the Blue wire will remain active for 140 seconds after engine shutdown.
LED information:
If the LED is flashing once every three seconds, the module is in standby mode, ready to sense the vehicle’s engine start.
If the LED is illuminated solid. The (Blue) phantom ignition output wire is active.
Troubleshooting
LED is not flashing - Using a Multimeter, check that there is 12 volts present on the Red wire, and a solid ground connection on the Black wire.
Aftermarket accessory is shutting off while vehicle is running - If your installation requires a longer accessory output, cut the Brown Loop wire to increase the power-off delay to 140 seconds, to ensure continued operation of aftermarket products.
