Ventana
8x27 WP Binocular
Congratulations on your purchase of a precision Orion binocular . This rugged, ergonomically-designed compact binocular is nitrogen-purged and sealed to be completely fogproof and waterproof. It features a slightly larger aperture than a typical binocular of its class, for brighter images, while maintaining a light weight. You’ll find the Ventana an excellent companion for birding, sailing, camping, kayaking, or other outdoor pursuits. With proper care and use, it will provide many years of superb, enjoyable viewing. To get the most from your binocular, please read all of the following instructions.
Warning: Never look at the Sun with binoculars or any other optical instrument! Severe and permanent eye damage could result. On sunny days, children should use this binocular only with adult supervision.
Adjusting for the Distance Between Your Eyes
The distance between the eyepiece lenses of the binocular should be adjusted to match the distance between your eyes, called the “interpupillary distance.” To adjust the binocular, hold each barrel firmly; move them together or apart while looking through the binocular with both eyes until you see a single, round field. Make this adjustment before focusing.
3
Focusing
The Ventana features a convenient center focusing knob. However, because your eyes might differ slightly in their focus, the binocular also includes a right eye diopter adjustment. Follow this method for focusing: With both eyes open, rotate the right eyepiece to the full counterclockwise position, then sight on a distant subject. Cover the right objective (front) lens with your hand (or simply close your right eye). Turn the center focusing knob until the image in the left eyepiece is sharp. Now uncover the right objective lens and cover the left objective lens (or close your left eye, open your right eye). Focus the right side by rotating the right eyepiece (do not adjust the center focusing knob) until the image is sharp. The binocular is now focused for your eyes. With the right eyepiece now set, focusing is achieved solely by rotating the center knob.
Rubber Eyeguards
The Ventana binocular’s rubber eyeguards allow easier positioning of the eyes for viewing while blocking some stray light. When using the binocular without eyeglasses, we recommend leaving the eyeguards in the extended (up) position. For viewing with eyeglasses on, you’ll see more of the field of view by folding them down. Merely press the rubber down on one side of the eyeguard and then slide your finger around to the opposite side while applying downward pressure.

Cleaning and Care
The Ventana is nitrogen-purged and sealed to be completely waterproof and internally fogproof. While it is impervious to rain, wind, splashing from a boat, humidity, and the like, do not
immerse
the binocular in water under any
circumstances. If the binocular becomes wet with fresh water, merely blot it
dry with a clean cloth and clean the lens surfaces as outlined below. Saltwater should be rinsed off completely and the binocular then blotted dry and its lenses cleaned as outlined below . If the binocular body becomes dirty, it can be cleaned with warm water and a clean cloth. If extremely dirty, or oily, clean the body with a dilute solution of warm water and mild soap on a cloth, then rinse with clean water and blot dry. Do not clean lens surfaces with soap and water!
The lens surfaces of your binocular are vacuum-covered with delicate antireflection coatings, which can be damaged by careless handling. Avoid touching lens surfaces with your fingers or any scratchy, coarse material. Clean the lenses a couple of times a year, more frequently if they become noticeably dirty. Dust build-up can promote mold growth, which can etch the glass and destroy the coatings. Use the lint-free cloth that came with the binocular or optical lens cleaning tissue, and always use optical cleaning
5
fluid specifically designed for multi-coated lenses. Never use tissue or fluids made for regular eyeglasses or household use.
To clean the lenses, first puff air on their surfaces with a blower bulb or compressed air to remove any large particles. Then it’s a good idea to brush the lens with a soft lens brush. Next, put two drops of lens cleaning fluid on a sheet of lens tissue (never directly on the lens). Wipe the lens gently in a circular motion, taking care to avoid undue pressure or rubbing. Quickly remove the excess fluid with a clean, dry lens tissue.
Use of the supplied neck strap can help prevent accidental dropping of your binocular. Dropping is the leading cause of optical failure in binoculars.
6
Storage
Make sure the binocular is completely dry before storing it in its case with the lens caps on. If the binocular has gotten wet, remove the moisture as described previously, and let the binocular air-dry overnight (out of the case and with lens caps off) before storing it in its case. Similarly, when the binocular is brought indoors from outdoors where the temperature and/or humidity was significantly different, allow the binocular to dry out overnight before replacing the lens caps and storing the binocular in its case. Always store the binocular in a cool, dry place; storage in a humid environment can result in mold growth and ruined optics. This is not covered by the warranty.
Repair
If your Ventana binocular should require internal cleaning, optical alignment, or other repairs, return it to Orion or take it to a qualified optical repair shop for service. Never disassemble the binocular yourself! Doing so can disturb the precision optical alignment and will void your warranty.
