INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:
Read all instructions before using this unit.
WARNING! To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury:
• The unit is intended for household use only.
• Use the unit only as described in this manual.
• Use only manufacturer’s recommended attachments.
DO NOT EXPOSE SKIN OR EYES TO THE UV-C LIGHT THROUGH TRANSPARENT OR TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CLOTHING, GLASS, MESH, SCREENS, PLASTIC & PLEXIGLASS.
Environment
Use of the unit outdoors or on wet surfaces may result in damage to the appliance and void the warranty. Do not use outdoors
or on wet surfaces.
Operation
This appliance has an ultraviolet bulb and powerful suction capability. Do not allow it to be used as a toy and always
maintain close attention when used by or near children. Use of the unit with an opening blocked may reduce air-flow
and suction. Keep all openings free of dust, lint, hair etc. Improper handling of the power cord may result in wiring, con-
nection damage and potential sparking or shock. Always follow these instructions when handling the power cord:
• Do not pull or carry the unit by the cord
• Do not use the cord as a handle
• Do not close a door on the cord
• Do not pull the cord around sharp edges or corners
4
• Keep the cord away from heated surfaces
• Do not run another appliance over the cord
• Always grasp the plug, not the cord, when unplugging the unit
A damaged cord or plug may cause a spark, shock and fire. Always check the cord and plug before use. If appliance is not working as it should, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, return it to a service center or call customer service at: U.S.: 1-800-989-3535 Canada: 1-888-676-7325.
Using the unit with wet hands and on wet surfaces may result in unexpected shock, slippage and personal injury. Do not handle the plug or appliance with wet hands or on wet surfaces.
Operation of the appliance in a stationary position for any period of time may result in property (e.g.: carpet color loss) or appliance damage. Always keep the unit moving while in operation.
Moving the unit over burning or smoking objects, flammable or combustible liquids and toxic material may result in a fire and personal injury. Do not move the unit over burning or smoking objects, flammable or combustible liquids.
Do not leave appliance unattended when plugged in. Unplug from outlet when not in use and before servicing.
Polarized Plug Notice
This product is equipped with a polarized alternating current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact an electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the purpose of the polarized plug.
Ultraviolet Light
We learned that ultraviolet light (UV-C) had been used for decades to disinfect hospitals and sterilize drinking water.
This product emits germicidal ultraviolet light. Exposure to or touching the ultraviolet light during operation may result
in burns and skin or vision damage.
Follow these safety guidelines when using the ultraviolet light:
5
• Never stare directly at the ultraviolet light.
• While the unit is in operation never pick up and turn over the unit.
• Never touch the bottom of the unit or protective lens. Allow the UV-C light and protective lens to cool down before touching the bottom of the unit or storing the unit.
Safety features have been designed into the unit to minimize the risk of personal injury. These include:
• The unit must be on a flat surface to activate the UV-C light.
• The UV-C light will disengage if the product is raised off the flat surface or placed on a non-flat surface.
• Keep the unit moving while in use.
HEAT PROTECTION SYSTEM:
If the Oreck Halo Flash™ is used without continuous suction
for an extended period of time, the heat protection system will shut off the UV-C bulb to avoid overheating and prevent
permanent damage to the UV-C bulb and housing.
NOTE: The light around the Oreck Halo® Technology logo
will blink when the heat protection system shuts off the UV-C bulb. The unit must remain unplugged for at least 30
minutes for the UV-C bulb to cool and the system to reset.
WARNING: The UV-C bulb cover can become very
hot to the touch. Do not place on any surface that can be damaged by temperatures of 120 F or higher.
Any attempt to turn the ultraviolet light ON by defeating the UV-C light switch or other safety features may result in personal injury and is considered an unauthorized use of the appliance.
DO NOT EXPOSE SKIN OR EYES TO THE UV-C LIGHT THROUGH TRANSPARENT OR TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CLOTHING, GLASS, MESH, SCREENS, PLASTIC & PLEXIGLASS.
