15.
Damage Requiring Service Unplug the apparatus from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: A. When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged, B. If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into
the apparatus, C. If the apparatus has been exposed to rain or water, D. If the apparatus does not operate normally by
following the operating instructions. Adjust only
those controls that are covered by the operating
instructions as an improper adjustment of other
controls may result in damage and will often require
extensive work by a qualified technician to restore
the apparatus to its normal operation, E. If the apparatus has been dropped or damaged in
any way, and F. When the apparatus exhibits a distinct change in
performance this indicates a need for service.
16.
Object and Liquid Entry Never push objects of any kind into the apparatus through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. The apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing and no objects filled with liquids, such as vases shall be placed on the apparatus. Precautions
1. Recording Copyright—Unless it’s for personal use
only, recording copyrighted material is illegal without the permission of the copyright holder.
2. AC Fuse—The AC fuse inside the unit is not userserviceable. If you cannot turn on the unit, contact your Onkyo dealer.
3. Care—Occasionally you should dust the unit all over with a soft cloth. For stubborn stains, use a soft cloth dampened with a weak solution of mild detergent and water. Dry the unit immediately afterwards with a clean cloth. Don’t use abrasive cloths, thinners, alcohol, or other chemical solvents, because they may damage the finish or remove the panel lettering.
4. Power WARNING
BEFORE PLUGGING IN THE UNIT FOR THE FIRST TIME, READ THE FOLLOWING SECTION CAREFULLY. AC outlet voltages vary from country to country. Make sure that the voltage in your area meets the voltage requirements printed on the unit’s rear panel (e.g., AC 230 V, 50 Hz or AC 120 V, 60 Hz).
The power cord plug is used to disconnect this unit from the AC power source. Make sure that the plug is readily operable (easily accessible) at all times.
For models with [POWER] button, or with both [POWER] and [ON/STANDBY] buttons: Pressing the [POWER] button to select OFF mode does not fully disconnect from the mains. If you do not intend to use the unit for an extended period, remove the power cord from the AC outlet.
For models with [ON/STANDBY] button only: Pressing the [ON/STANDBY] button to select Standby mode does not fully disconnect from the mains. If you do not intend to use the unit for an extended period, remove the power cord from the AC outlet.
5. Preventing Hearing Loss Caution
Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphones can cause hearing loss.
6. Batteries and Heat Exposure Warning
Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) shall not be exposed to excessive heat as sunshine, fire or the like.
7. Never Touch this Unit with Wet Hands—Never handle this unit or its power cord while your hands are wet or damp. If water or any other liquid gets inside this unit, have it checked by your Onkyo dealer.
8. Handling Notes

Using the remote control
Remove the cover from the back of the remote control and insert two AAA/R03 batteries with their i/j ends oriented in the case as shown. Replace the cover.
If the operation range of the remote control decreases, the batteries have become exhausted. In this case, replace the batteries with new ones. Dispose of the used batteries according to the instructions on them or requirements set by your local municipality.
0 If you intend not to use the remote control for a long
time, remove the batteries to prevent damage from leakage or corrosion.
0 Expired batteries should be removed as soon as
possible to prevent damage from leakage or corrosion.
Precautions for use
Do not install this unit in a location that could become hot. This includes places that are exposed to direct sunlight or near a radiator, heater, stove or other heating equipment. Moreover, do not place it on top of an amplifier or other equipment that generates heat. Doing so could cause discoloration or deformation. Do not put anything on top of this unit, as it may interfere with proper ventilation. Do not lift or move the unit during playback because the disc rotates at high speed. Doing so could damage the disc. Always remove any loaded disc before moving this unit or packing it for installation in a different location, for example. Moving the unit with a disc inside could cause a malfunction.
When using the remote control, point it toward the remote control signal receiver on the main unit from a distance of 5 m or less.
0 Do not place obstructions between the main unit and
the remote control.
0 The remote control might not work if the remote control
signal receiver on the unit is exposed to direct sunlight or bright light. If this occurs, try moving the unit.
0 Beware that use of this remote control could cause the
unintentional operation of other devices that can be controlled by infrared rays.

1. Connecting speakers
Refer to the illustration below to connect the unit and the right and left speakers with the speaker cables. Connect the speaker to be placed on the right hand side to the SPEAKERS terminal (R), and connect the speaker to be placed on the left hand side to the SPEAKERS terminal (L). Since the unit is equipped with the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT terminal, you can enhance bass sound playback by connecting a subwoofer with a built-in power amplifier. Important: Connect speakers with 4 h to 16 h impedance. Connecting a speaker with a lower impedance may damage the speaker.
failure. Also do not connect two or more cables to one speaker terminal or one speaker to several terminals.
2. AM/FM antenna connections
Connect the antennas to listen to AM/FM broadcast. When listening to the broadcast for the first time, adjust the antenna position and orientation to get the best reception.
Cut and remove the plastic coating from the end of the speaker cable, twist the core and connect it to the terminal. Make correct connection between the unit’s jacks and speaker’s jacks (i to i and j to j) for each channel. If connection is wrong, a bass sound may become poor due to reverse phase.
