Shooting still pictures

Set the mode dial to anything except n and press the shutter button lightly (halfway). The green lamp lights when the focus and exposure are locked (focus lock). Now press the shutter button all the way (completely) to shoot a picture.

Compose your picture with the focus locked, and then completely press the shutter button to shoot a picture.

• When the green lamp blinks, the focus is not adjusted properly. Try locking the focus again.

Recording movies

Set the mode dial to n, and lightly press the shutter button to lock the focus, and then press the shutter button completely to start recording. Press the shutter button again to stop recording.

Switches to the playback mode and the last picture taken is displayed.

• Press the arrow pad to view other pictures.

• Use the zoom button to switch among close-up playback, and index display. If the camera is not on, press q to turn on the camera in the playback mode.

Set the mode dial and shoot pictures.

The camera determines the optimum settings and shoots the picture.

This function reduces the blur caused by a moving subject or camera movement when taking pictures.

You can shoot pictures with the appropriate settings for portraits, landscapes, night and portrait.

You can shoot pictures by selecting from 10 types of scenes according to the situation. Press i for setting.

• The scene selection screen displays sample images and the shooting mode to best suit the situation.

• To switch scenes after selecting a scene, set the mode dial to a different position and then set it to f again. The selection screen is displayed.

• By switching to another scene, most settings will be returned to the default settings of each scene.

• To change the setting without using the shooting guide, set a different shooting mode.

• The content set using the shooting guide will return to the default setting by pressing MENU or changing the mode using the mode dial.

• Press T to incrementally enlarge the picture up to 10 times the original size. Press W to reduce the size.

• Press the arrow pad during close-up playback to scroll the picture in the indicated direction.

• When returning to the singleframe playback, press i.

Index display

• Use the arrow pad to select a picture for playback, and press i to play back the single-frame of the picture selected.

• Use the arrow pad to browse pictures.

Displays the top menu.

Use the arrow pad to select scenes, playback pictures, and select items on the menus.

This button is used to confirm your selection.

Display a picture to be printed out in playback mode, connect the camera to a printer and press O<. g“Direct printing (PictBridge)” (P.28)

Press X& in shooting mode to select the macro mode. Press i for setting.

Press NY in shooting mode to select on and off of the self-timer. Press i for setting.

• The self-timer lamp lights for approximately 10 seconds, blinks for approximately 2 seconds, and then the picture is taken.

• To cancel the self-timer, press NY.

• Self-timer shooting is automatically canceled after one shot.

OFF Macro mode off Turns off the macro mode. & Macro mode This mode lets you shoot from as close as 10 cm/3.9 in. (when

the zoom is set for the zoom-out angle) and as close as 60 cm/

23.6 in. (when the zoom is set for the zoom-in angle) to your subject.

% Super macro mode This mode lets you shoot from as close as 5 cm/2.0 in. from your

subject. Zoom position is automatically set and cannot be changed.

b NY button Self-timer shooting

Y Self-timer on After the setting, press the shutter button fully.

OFF Self-timer off Cancel the self-timer.

Press Y# in shooting mode to select the flash mode. Press i to set it.

In playback mode, select the picture you want to erase, and press S.

• Once erased, pictures cannot be restored. Check each picture before erasing to

avoid accidentally erasing pictures you want to keep. g“PROTECT Protecting pictures” (P.23)

AUTO Auto-flash The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight

conditions.

! Red-eye reduction flash This emits pre-flashes for red-eye reduction. # Fill-in flash The flash fires regardless of the available light. $ Flash off The flash does not fire even in low light conditions.

Still picture image quality and their applications

Movie image quality

Panorama shooting lets you create a panoramic picture, using the OLYMPUS Master software from the provided CD-ROM. An Olympus xD-Picture Card is required for panorama shooting.

Use the arrow pad to specify at which edge you want to connect the pictures, and then compose your shots so that the edges of the pictures overlap. The part of the previous picture where it will be joined to the next picture does not remain in the frame. You have to remember what the part in the frame looked like and take the next picture so it overlaps.

Panorama shooting is possible for up to 10 pictures. Press i to exit panorama shooting.

It restores shooting functions to their factory default settings.

Set it with XY and then press i. Y: To compensate to the positive. X: To compensate to the negative.

Set the operation beeps, alarms and shutter sound to mute when shooting or playing back pictures.

Select [MOVIE PLAY] from the top menu, and press i to play back the movie. Another option is to select a picture with the movie icon (A), and press i to play back the movie.

Pictures taken with the camera held vertically are displayed horizontally. This function lets you turn such pictures so that they are displayed vertically. New picture orientations are saved even when the power is turned off.

Select an image with XY and then to rotate the display select [+90°]/[0°]/[-90°] with ON. You can rotate several frames in succession.

Protected pictures cannot be erased with single frame erase or erase all, but they are erased during formatting.

• Select the picture with XY, and protect it by selecting

[ON] with ON. You can protect several frames in succession.

Protected pictures cannot be erased. Cancel protection before erasing protected pictures. Once erased, pictures cannot be restored. Check each picture before erasing to avoid accidentally erasing pictures you want to keep.

• When erasing the pictures in the internal memory, do not insert the card into the

camera.

• When erasing the picture from the card, insert a card into the camera in advance.

• Use the arrow pad to select the picture, and then press

i to put a 9.

•Press i again to cancel the selection.

• When the selection is completed, press S.

• Select [YES], and press i.
