Subject: Saturn Information System version 2.0
Saturn version 2.0 continues to extend perioperative functionality. Saturn Recorder now incorporates
comprehensive post-operative and holding area functionality. An integrated Internet browser is also incorporated within the Saturn Recorder.
1. Post-Op Recorder has the necessary utilities to provide full documentation for a low acuity PACU.
Post-Op Recorder functionality is self-contained within the Post-Op tab which contains 4 pages of
functionality.
• Record Page allows for acknowledging the condition of the patients when they're received from the
OR, charting of patient vitals, recording fluids in/out, and entering notes (events) and drugs. The
charting functionality is identical to the charting in the Record Page of the OR tab.
• Systems Page provides the utility to document and review patient system conditions:
hepto/gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, neuro/musculoskeletal, renal/endocrine, and other.
• Scoring Page lets a hospital assess a patient over time using a configurable set of parameters. There
is no limit to number of parameters to be assessed and the value or statuses for each parameter have
no limit. The Scoring Page can be configured to support the Aldrete scoring system, which assesses activity, respiration, circulation, level of consciousness, and color.
• Discharge Page documents the transfer of the patient out of the PACU including patient or family
instructions as well as an evaluation of the care plan. Nursing and transport staffs are identified
with the capability of requiring electronic signatures.
2. Holding area (Induction Room) documentation is an extension of the OR Recorder functionality. The
functions are accessed via a separate Holding tab (next to the OR tab). It provides the same utilities as
the OR tab Record Summary page plus additional functions to allow for acknowledging the status of
the patient and recognizing when the last food or drink occurred. Staffs are identified with the capability of requiring electronic signatures.
3. Internet access can now be accomplished via the Browser tab. The Browser tab provides a single
view of the Internet using a subset of the standard utilities provided by the Microsoft® Internet

Explorer. Security is provided within the user settings in List Manager and also by the standard Internet
options control panel provided with Explorer.
4. Patient tab, which accommodates patient demographics, has been relabeled Admission. The renaming of
the tab reflects its increasing capability of accommodating HL7 Admission, Discharge and Transfer
(ADT) data fields. The Admission tab now has 2 pages: Demographics and Surgery & Anesthesia. The
Surgery & Anesthesia page contains fields for staff identification (with electronic signature capability),
procedure names and codes, diagnosis names and codes, and now the page supports Diagnosis Related
Groups (DRGs) which are used for billing.
There is no pre-op functionality in Saturn 2.0. The fields that were available in the Pre-Op tab in previous
Saturn versions are now incorporated into the Holding or Admission tabs.
No appreciable changes were made with the other Saturn applications: Administrator (List Manager, Case
Manager, and Environment Manager) and Report Manager.
