For your safety

For your safety
Read these simple guidelines. Not following them may be dangerous or illegal. Read the complete user guide for further information.
ROAD SAFETY COMES FIRST
Obey all local laws. Always keep your hands free to operate the vehicle while driving. Your first consideration while driving should be road safety.
INTERFERENCE
All wireless devices may be susceptible to interference, which could affect performance.
CONNECTING TO OTHER DEVICES
When connecting to any other device, read its user guide for detailed safety instructions. Do not connect incompatible products.
QUALIFIED SERVICE
Only qualified personnel may repair this device.
Note: There may be restrictions on using Bluetooth devices in some
locations. Check with your local authorities or service provider. Using Bluetooth features, or allowing them to run in the background while using other features, increases the demand on battery power and reduces the battery life.

Install the hands-free device in the car
To function properly, the device must be connected to the cigarette lighter socket of a car, and power must be supplied by the car battery.
6
Get started
Insert the device into the cigarette lighter socket of your car as shown in Figure A or Figure B.
Make sure that the device is properly locked in place and does not interfere with the normal operation of the car.
Speech tracking works best when the speech sound is coming from the area indicated with light gray in the figure. If you encounter unsatisfactory performance, realign the device.

In those cases, the car battery might be discharged if the device is left on, or if the handsfree device is turned off but connected to the cigarette lighter socket for a long time. Contact the vehicle manufacturer for more information.

Switch device on and off

To switch on, press the power key. The device beeps, and the green indicator light is displayed briefly.
To switch off, press the power key when no call is in progress. The device beeps, and the red indicator light is displayed briefly.

Pair the device with a phone

The device is specially designed for compatible Nokia phones that support Bluetooth wireless technology. You can, however, use the device with any compatible Bluetooth device that supports the Bluetooth hands-free profile. Refer to the user guide of your phone for more information on Bluetooth wireless technology.
Before you can use the device, you must pair it with a compatible phone.
1. Make sure that the compatible phone is switched on.
2. Make sure that the device is installed properly, and press the power key to switch it on.
3. Set the phone to search for Bluetooth devices. See the user guide of your phone for instructions.
4. Select the handsfree (Nokia HF-6W) from the list.
8
Get started
5. Enter the Bluetooth passcode 0000 to pair the device with the phone. The phone becomes the default phone for the device, if it has not been previously paired with another phone.
The device beeps shortly, and a continuous blue indicator light indicates an active Bluetooth connection.
6. Start to use the device.
Disconnect the device from the phone
If you want to disconnect the device from your phone (for example, to connect the phone to another Bluetooth device), switch off the device, or disconnect the device in the Bluetooth menu of the phone.
You do not need to delete the pairing with the device to disconnect it.
Reconnect the device to the phone
If you want to reconnect the device to the default phone or the last used phone, make sure the Bluetooth feature is activated in the phone, and switch on the device. When you reconnect a paired device, you are not asked for its passcode.
You can set your phone to connect with the device automatically when the device is switched on. To do this in Nokia phones, change your paired device settings in the Bluetooth menu.
If the device does not automatically reconnect to the default or the last used phone, press and hold the call/end key. The device starts to search for the default phone, followed by the last used phone. Otherwise, make the connection in the Bluetooth menu of your phone.

To answer a call or to end the currently active call, press the call/end key. You can also answer or end the call using the phone.

10
Basic use
Mute or unmute an ongoing call
Press the power key briefly. When the call is muted, the red indicator light is shown continuously.

Adjust the device volume

To adjust the device volume, use the volume keys on the device or the keypad of your phone.

Charge a compatible phone battery

You can charge the batteries of compatible Nokia phones while using the hands-free device. Pull out the charger cable from the device, and connect it to the phone. When the battery is fully charged, disconnect the phone from the charger cable; press the cable release key on the device to retract the cable.
11
Basic use

Use the device with paired phones

You can pair the device with up to eight compatible phones, but connect to only one phone at a time.
The phone that was first paired with the device is called the default phone. The phone that was last used with the device is called the last used phone.
When the device is switched on, it tries to connect to the default phone within a few seconds.
If the device cannot connect to the default phone, it then tries to connect to the last used phone within a few seconds.
If the device cannot connect to either phone, it remains discoverable for other phones.
To use the device with a paired phone that is not the default phone or the last used phone, make the connection in the Bluetooth menu of the phone.

Basic use

Troubleshooting

If you cannot connect the device to the compatible phone, proceed as follows:
• Make sure that the Bluetooth feature is activated on the compatible phone.
• Make sure that the device is properly installed, switched on, and paired with the compatible phone.
• Check that there is power supplied by the car battery.
• Make sure you ended the previous Bluetooth connection from the phone, if you use several Bluetooth devices.
• Ensure that the device is within 10 meters of the phone and that there are no obstructions or electronic devices between the two.
• The network capacity and parameters of your network operator may degrade the sound quality of phone calls. This may occur, for example, in traffic jams, when many people in the same area are talking on the phone at the same time.
13

Care and maintenance

Care and maintenance
Your device is a product of superior design and craftsmanship and should be treated with care. The suggestions below will help you protect your warranty coverage.
• Keep the device dry. Precipitation, humidity and all types of liquids or moisture can contain minerals that will corrode electronic circuits.
• Do not use or store the device in dusty, dirty areas. Its moving parts, electronic components, and microphones can be damaged.
• Do not store the device in hot areas. High temperatures can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and warp or melt certain plastics.
• Do not store the device in cold areas. When it warms up to its normal temperature, moisture can form inside, which may damage electronic circuit boards.
• Do not attempt to open the device.
• Do not drop, knock, or shake the device. Rough handling can break internal circuit boards and fine mechanics.
• Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the device.
• Do not paint the device. Paint can clog the moving parts, microphones or the speaker, and prevent proper operation.
If the device is not working properly, take it to the nearest authorized service facility for service.

Additional safety information

Additional safety information
Vehicles
RF signals may affect improperly installed or inadequately shielded electronic systems in motor vehicles such as electronic fuel injection systems, electronic antiskid (antilock) braking systems, electronic speed control systems, and air bag systems. For more information, check with the manufacturer or its representative of your vehicle or any equipment that has been added.
Faulty installation or service may be dangerous and may invalidate any warranty that may apply to the device. Check regularly that all wireless device equipment in your vehicle is mounted and operating properly. Do not store or carry flammable liquids, gases, or explosive materials in the same compartment as the device, its parts, or enhancements. For vehicles equipped with an air bag, remember that air bags inflate with great force. Do not place objects, including installed or portable wireless equipment in the area over the air bag or in the air bag deployment area. If in-vehicle wireless equipment is improperly installed and the air bag inflates, serious injury could result.
