Effective Use of Your Pager
Yourpager canhelp youkeepin contactwith everyoneimportant toyou. B y giving yourpager number toyour business associates,family, and friends, you canbe contacted whenever needed.
If youhave acellular phone, giveyour pager number instead of your cellular number. Then you can decide whoto call backon your cellular phone withoutpaying for incoming calls.
Battery Information
Yourpager is designedtooperate with a single AA-size alkalinebattery (carbon zincbatteries arenot recommended). Seethe diagramon thefollowing pagefor the batterydoor location.
Installing/Replacing the Battery
To installor replace the battery, holdthe pager facedown and proceedas follows:
Unlock thebattery door bysliding the doorlatch awayfrom the battery door.

Slide thebattery door in thedirection of the arrow (toward theouter edge).
Lift thebattery door awayfrom the housingto remove it.
Lift thebattery out of thebattery compartment, taking note of the positive (+)and negative (-) markings on thebattery and the pager housing.
To installa new battery, reversethis procedure, takingnote of the positive (+)and negative (-) markings.
Caution:
Do not insert the battery backwards or all messages will be
erased.

Sending a Test Page to Yourself
It's agood idea to te st your pager andservice by sending apage to yourself.Start by usingthe phone number, website, or emailaddress (and a PIN,if required) yourservice providergave you,then enter ashort message. Ifyou are sendinga word message from a phone, anoperator will assistyou; otherwise, p ress the phone buttonsto enter a numeric message or type a message and send it. While youare waiting for the message toreach yourpager,refer to page 13for information abouthow to read amessage. If yourpager does not rec eive the message within a few minutes, contactyour service provider.After you'vetested the pager,read the restof this guideto learn about themany useful featuresof your new pager.
Backlight
The pager’s backlightilluminates in low-light conditions whenany buttonis pressed. Youcan manually turn thebacklight on oroff at anytime by pressing and holding
K fortwo seconds. The backlight automaticallytur ns
off whenthe pager returns tothe Standby screen.

The pager must be inthe audible alert mode to select the alert pattern. Your pagerhas a standard alert (1),seven differentpleasing (musical) alerts (2-8), anda chirping alert (j). Youcan also select noalert (r).

Receiving/Reading Personal Messages
When amessage is received, your pager alerts anddisplays a flashingm symbol.
Press anybutton to stopthe alert.
Press Ë to display yourmessage. The pagerautomatically stores the message and the time anddate it is received. Aflashing t at thebottom rightcorner ofthe screenindicates themessage you arereading continues beyond the four lines of the display.

Locking and Unlocking Messages
Up to10 messages can be locked in memory, preventing them frombeing deleted orreplaced when memory is full.
To Lock or Unlock a Message
Press Ë.
Press H or I to selectthe message you want to lockor unlock.
Press K.
Press I tomovethecursortolock(g)orunlock(h).
Press K to lock or unlock the message. The symbol g or h is displayed, indicating thestatus of themessage.

Deleting Messages
You candelete an unlockedand un-alarmed message whileyou are viewing themessage or through the Features menu.

Setting the Message Alarm
This featureallows youto set aone-time or daily alarm for a selected personal message.Youcan set an alar m for up tofive personal messages.

Maildrop/Information Services
If yourpager has maildrop (Information Services), messages are received and read the same wayas personal messages andthe icon indicators are located onthe second row ofthe display. Maildropmessages are located on thesecond row of the display.
You canset your pagerto alert when maildrop messagesare received.
• Each individual maildrop can have the alert set to on or off. However, a
maildrop must contain a message to turn the alert on or off.
•AV in the maildrop message area indicates the alert is
off
for that
maildrop. A j indicates the alert is
on

• If the pager alert is set to audible, the maildrop alert is a single chirp. If the pager alert is set to vibrate, the maildrop alert is a short vibration. If the pager alert isset to No Message Alert, there isno audible or vibrate maildrop alert.
• Pleasing (musical) alerts cannot beset for maildrop messages.

Moving Messages to Your Notebooks
Your pagerhas two notebookareas: a personal notebookfor storing personal messages, and a maildrop (InformationServices) notebook for storing informationservice messages,(refer to “Maildrop/Information Services” on page 23).
To Store a Message in your Personal Notebook
Press Ë.
Pressä or ã tomovethecursor to select the message you wantto move into your personal notebook.
Press K to display the Featuresmenu.

Features
Battery Gauge
The battery gaugeindicator is located on the status screen and keeps you informed ofthe battery energy level. The five indicators rangefrom full to low:
( (full), ) (3/4), * (1/2), + (1/4), and , (low).
Key Click
With thisoption enable, and the pager isin the audibleor vibrate mode,a “click” is emitted whenever abutton ispressed. Theclick is not heard when the pageris in the no alert (completely silent) mode.
Duplicate Message
If thesame message is receivedmore than once,DUPLICATE MESSAG E is displayedat the beginning of the new message.The new message contains thelatest time and date stamp.

OutofRange
With thisoption, T is displayed when your pageris located outside ofyour paging coveragearea. T is nolonger displayed when you return toyour coveragearea.
Errored Data Indicato r
The ú symbol displays when potentiallycorrupt data is received.The indicator alternateswith the corrupted character.
Maildrop History
When thisoption is enabled,the pager stores up to four history files per maildrop (InformationServices) slot selected. When anew maildrop message is received on a spec ific slot, the existingmessage is “pushed” into thehistory area and thenew message isstored in the maildropslot. When afifth history file is received, the oldest history file isdeleted.
Your pagercan store up to19 personal messages in memory.

Cleaning Your Pager
To cleansmudges and grime fromthe exterior ofyour pager,use a soft, non-abrasive c loth moistened in amild soap and water solution. Use a second cloth moistened in clean waterto wipe thesurface clean. Donot immerse in water. Do not use alcohol orother cleaning solutions.
