FIELD SERVICE INFORMATION
Problem
Triplets Field Failure data show that some of “No Display” defect symptom with root cause has been identified as an open circuit in the Display Audio Hinge Flex. Further Analysis reveals that copper trace cracks at Static Bend near 30 pin BTB connector. Diagram 1.0 shows the copper traces with micro-crack opens.
Solution
Design change of Flex construction to include large Air gap at the static bend location. Diagram 2.0 shows the details. The Triplets Audio Hinge Flex is a Multi- Layer flex with 4 Copper layers. The design change significantly increased the width of the air gap to allow more flexible compliance in the 4 layer flex structure. Effectiveness of this corrective action was verified by statistically significant improvement in static bend reliability. Solution Implementation date: V600: cut-over to 0189217N01 Rev B on May 26, 2004. V300/V303/V400/V500/V501/V525: will cut-over to 0188928N01 Rev D in the 2nd week of September 2004.
