FIELD SERVICE INFORMATION
Problem
Service is aware of an issue, identified during NPI Analysis, on GSM returned with a customer complaint of “Low/No Earpiece Audio”, were poor connection between the audio hinge flex and the speaker elastomer. Cause of this failure was lack of compression from CLI Chassis to cause by one of several contributing factors.
1. Loose torque on CLI Chassis screws (Spec. = 1 in. lb.)
2. Separation resulting from drop impact
3. Interference from “Fun-Light” flex assembly trapped between 1.0)
4. Mis-alignment of earpiece speaker at assembly into flip rear
5. Foreign Material collecting on speaker elastomer (Fig 3.0)

Solution
Short-Term (3/9/2004): Factory implemented Work Instruction (WI-01-3080-017) to ensure proper assembly (fun-light flex, speaker/elastomer alignment, and screw torque).Lower Kapton tape (1190142N01) was added to secure physical connection between audio hinge flex and speaker elastomer. See Fig 4.0 below.
Long-Term (5/25/2004): Factory crossed-over to a new version of foam snubber. The 7589762N01 Rev. B Snubber provides insulation to all components and is 100% adhesive backed to secure physical connection between audio hinge flex and speaker elastomer. Rev. B Snubber is also more durable which allows it to be easily removed and replaced during repair. Placement of the upper and lower pieces of Kapton Tape is no longer required with the use of the 7589762N01 Rev. B Snubber. See Fig 5.0 below.

Service Action
Customer Returns:
When servicing GSM V600 customer returns, Customer complaints of no/low Earpiece Audio”, then:
1. Dis-assemble the flip and inspect the connection between the audio hinge flex and speaker elastomer.
2. Perform required repair per defect found
3.Upon reassembly of the flip, replace current 7589762N01 Rev A Snubber with the improved Rev. B Snubber. Ensure the flip screws are properly tightened.
Service Inventory: Stock inventory of the 7589762N01 Rev. B Snubber for field replacement.
