Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of the Motorola Wireless Motion Sensor Camera. A high-resolution color video camera, it includes a built-in motion detector and an audio microphone. These features enable you to monitor an area. This Quick Start Guide describes how to set up and troubleshoot your Wireless Motion Sensor Camera.

Controlling Your Camera

Using your computer and the Wireless System Controller, you locally manage your home environment with the Motorola homesight™ software. When configured, the system can notify you of any new events by sending an e-mail when your Wireless Camera detects an event. An event is defined as motion in the field of view of the camera's motion sensor.

How It Works

The Wireless Motion Sensor Camera surveys an area up to 12–14 feet (3.5–4 m) at a viewing angle of 80 degrees. If armed, motion triggers the camera to turn on automatically and begin capturing a still image, or a video clip of a prescribed length. The camera transmits the video back to the Wireless System Controller and your computer. This enables you to view the image or watch the video to determine the cause of the triggered event.

Installation Overview

Installing your camera is a simple process.

1 Choose an appropriate location for the Wireless Motion Sensor Camera as described in the Installation

Hints.

2 Plug the AC adapter into the wall and the module.

3 Register your camera with your Wireless System:

a. In the homesight software, click System Settings.

b. Select “Device Discovery” from the menu.

c. Select “Start Discovery.”

d. After a few seconds, the System Controller will automatically find and register your camera and

details of the device will appear on the screen.

4 Mount the module, using either the tabletop base, or by following the instructions for wall mounting. If

using the table mount, slide the power switch on the base to On.

Installation Hints

Please consider the following points when mounting the camera:

• The camera must be aimed so that it does not directly face the sun or any bright light; otherwise, this may cause damage to the camera.

• Avoid viewing areas where half of the area is in bright sunlight and the other half is dark. All types of cameras have difficulty seeing wide variations of light.

• The Motorola Wireless Motion Sensor Camera is constructed of UV-resistant ABS plastic. Do not install the camera where it is subjected directly to the elements.

• This device’s communication range is up to 60 feet (18 m) from the Wireless System Controller in a typical home, depending on the number of obstacles. These can include metal framing, thick walls, and other wireless devices operating at 2.4 GHz. It is recommended that different positions be tried.

Installing Your Camera

Your camera can either be mounted on a wall or just sit on a level surface.

Wall Mount Your Wireless Camera

Make sure the power adapter cord is long enough to reach your mounting location. Also, be sure the AC outlet cannot be switched on and off with a wall switch.

Warning: When mounting near a window, drilling too close to the glass could break the glass, possibly cause it to shatter, and cause injury. The window extends deeper into the frame than can be seen; therefore, ensure your screw is beyond the glass before drilling.

1 Using the holes on the drilling template found later in this guide, mark the position of the holes

to be drilled.

For drywall or other composite surfaces, use a 7/32" drill bit. Drill a hole for each of the mounting screws and insert a plastic wall anchor into each hole.

For solid surfaces, use a 1/16" drill bit. Drill a pilot hole for each of the mounting screws.

2 Using the screws provided, secure the camera mounting bracket to the wall. Pull off the camera base by

pulling straight down. The base detaches from the upper back side. Slide the camera down on to the bracket until it is firmly seated and you feel it click as the contacts engage.

3 Position the camera to view the desired area and plug in the power supply. Please keep in mind that the

field of view is 80 degrees and motion sensor distance works up to 12–14 feet (3.5–4 m).

4 Make adjustments to the camera viewing angle by tilting and panning the camera head with your hand.

Wall Mount Drilling Template

Mounting tools: Screwdriver, electric drill, or awl. On hard surfaces, Motorola recommends that you pre-drill ½-inch-deep pilot holes with a drill bit slightly smaller than the camera mounting screws before securing the camera to the surface. When mounting a camera on soft surfaces like sheetrock, use an awl to punch holes in the material slightly smaller than the plastic anchors included in the hardware mounting kit.

The illustration is drawn to a one-to-one scale, which means that it provides the exact dimensions required to mount the unit.

Table Mount Your Wireless Camera

The camera can be placed on any horizontal surface.

1 Locate the camera on a horizontal surface.

2 Plug the power supply into camera and then to a wall outlet.

3 Make adjustments to the camera viewing angle by tilting and panning the camera head with

• Ensure that the camera is powered and online.

• Ensure that you are pressing the Discovery button.

• Reposition the camera closer to the Wireless System Controller.

• Try a hard reset by holding down the Discovery button while powering up

the camera by pluggin in or turning on.

• Ensure that the Wireless System Controller is powered and online.

• Ensure that you have the proper camera selected.

• Reposition the camera closer to the Wireless System Controller.

• Ensure that you are using the proper power supply.

• Make sure the proper camera quality settings are configured when

viewing (Motorola homesight™ User Guide).

• Make sure your camera viewing area has proper lighting.

• Try another location.

• Select other operating channels on other 2.4 GHz devices.

• Be sure there is no conflict with your WiFi network. See the homesight

User Guide for details.

• Ensure that the camera is not positioned behind glass. The motion sensor is triggered by changes in heat. Any material, such as glass, that "insulates” keeps the camera from detecting heat changes (movement).

• Ensure that the camera head is positioned properly.

• Make sure the speaker volume is turned up when playing back the video

clip.

• Make sure the sound is within the microphone range (6–10 feet).

• Does the computer have a sound card and are the speakers activated and

loud enough?

FAQ

How far away can the camera see?

Depending on the lighting conditions and the size of the object(s), you can view objects from 2 feet away (or more) with a viewing angle of 80 degrees. The motion sensor is capable of detecting objects at up to 12–14 feet (3.5–4 m) with a field of view of 80 degrees.

How sensitive is the camera's microphone?

The microphone picks up normal conversation 6–10 feet away.

Wireless Motion Sensor Camera (“Product”)

Motorola warrants to you, the original end user customer, that (A) the Product, excluding Software, will be materially free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal use, and (B) with respect to Software, (i) the media on which the Software is provided will be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use, and (ii) the Software will perform materially as described in its documentation. This Limited Warranty to you, the original end user customer, continues (A) for Software and the media upon which it is provided, for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of purchase from Motorola or an authorised Motorola reseller, and (B) for the Product (excluding Software), for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase from Motorola or from an authorized reseller. To take advantage of this Limited Warranty or to obtain technical support, you must call the Motorola toll-free phone number (below). Motorola's sole and exclusive obligation under this Limited Warranty for retail sales shall be to repair or replace any Product or Software or refund all or part of the purchase price of the Product that does not meet this Limited Warranty. All warranty claims must be made within the applicable Warranty Period.

General Information.
