At Motorola we believe that easy portable communicatio n is the k ey to creating a safer envi ro nment. That’s why we designed this exciting new
two-way communicatio n device ca lle d th e R adio
Bluetooth Ada pt er (RBA). The RBA re pr esents
anothe r breakthrough in applyi ng Bl uetooth wireless technology by Motorola. This adapter allows
your radi o to send and re ceive audio from a wi reless accessory such as a Remote Speaker Microphone (RSM ) w ith out w ire s.
This RBA us es a new pro to col based on state-ofthe-art Bluetooth techno lo gy specifications,
which re sult in simplifying th e use of your radio.
Bluetooth wireless tech nology is an open standard, connecting wir el es s devices w ithin a short
range. The range for this particular adapter
(RBA ) and the Bluetooth audio accessory is
approximately 30 feet in ideal line-of-sight conditions. It is important to be aware that the specific
Bluetooth t echnology was designe d and engineer ed for use betwe en your radi o and special
Bluetooth audio acces sories. Yo ur Bluetooth
audio ac ces sor y w ill not operate with oth er nonMotorola two-way radio Bluetooth prod uc ts.

GETTING STARTED
Installing the Radio Bluetooth Adapter (RBA)
OTE:The RBA is designed to clip onto the back
of specially designed radio batteries.
1.Place the bo ttom of the RBA to the battery.
Press the top latch of the RBA to the battery
until it snaps into place. Refer to Figure 2.
2.Attach the si de c onnector to th e radio’s
accessory connector. Secure the side connect or with the metal screw using a co i n or
thin bladed screwdriver.

Removing the Radio Bluetooth Adapter (RBA)
1.Detach t he side connector from th e accessor y connec t or wit h t he m et al sc rew usi ng a
coin or thin blade d screwdriver.
2.Detach t he t op latch by pressing down and
pulling the RBA away from the battery.
Turning ON the RBA
The RBA turns ON when the radio is turned ON.
The RBA LE D ligh ts G REEN for one seco nd,
indicat ing successful power-up. When you first
turn on your RBA, it will first attempt to establish
a connect i on with the las t Bluetooth audi o ac cessory it was connected to, otherwise it will attempt
to co nnect to a ne w accessory.
Establishing the Bluetooth Wireless Connection
Following these simple steps es tablishes a new
connection when your RBA and audio accessory
are first turned on:
1.Turn ON your radio. The RBA turns on when
the radio is turned on.
• The RBA LE D ligh ts GR EEN for one sec-
ond, indicating successful power-up.
2.Turn ON the Bluetooth wireless capable
audio ac ces sor y. (Refer to your access ory
manual.)

3.Place the audio accesso ry next to the r adio.

• The RBA LE D flas hes ORANGE until a
successful connection is established. If a
connect i on has not been established, th e
LED flashes RED.
• Once the R BA and audi o access ory have
connect ed, the RBA LED fla shes GRE EN
every few seconds.
OTE:Connecting for the first time takes longer
to establish than subsequent connections.
Connection Verification
You may want to verify the w irel ess conne ct i on
before you start commun i cat i ng with the accessory.
OTE:Pressing the audio accessor y PT T but-
ton first, keys-up the radio
1.Press and hold t he RB A BLU E button.
2.Press the audio acces sory PTT button.
• The RBA LED lights a solid G REEN for the
duration of the audio accessory PTT press.
If this does not happen, the connection was
not established and the connection process
will have to be repeated.

Lost Link
If the connection is lost at any time, the RBA LED
flashes ORANGE until t he connection i s r e-establish ed. If a connec tion has no t been r e-est abl ished
within 30 seconds the LE D flashes RED.
OTE:During the attempt to re-establish a con-
nection, your radio and PTT button function normally.
Turning OFF the RBA
If a wireless connectio n is est ablish ed, you can
turn off your RBA without losing its memory to the
connect i on wi t h th e audio acces sor y. The connection i s au to m a tic al l y re -e st ablishe d t he next
time the RBA is tu rned on.
1.To tur n OF F the RBA, turn off the ra dio.
2.To turn ON the RBA, turn on the radio.

OPERATION
Operational Range
For optimum performance from your RBA, use it
within 30 feet of your audio accessory. This range
will vary depending on environmental conditions,
i.e. clothing, radio pl acement on body, buildings.
Receiving
Once the R BA is connected to your audio accessor y, the radio speaker mutes and th e audio is
heard only from the au di o accesso ry.
• While receiving, the RBA LED lights a solid
GREEN for the duration of th e re ceived
commun ication.
Transmitting
The Push- To-Talk (PTT) but ton on either the audio
accessory or t he RBA initi at es transmiss i on.
OTES:Pressing the audio accessor y or RBA
PTT button activates only the microphone in the audio accessory.
Pressing the radio’s PTT button acti-
vates only the mic rophone in the radio.
• While transmitting, the RBA LED lights a
solid GREEN for the duration of the t rans mission.

Volume Control

VOX (Voice Activated Transmission)

If your radio is VOX capable an d has been programmed into the radio, this feature can be
enabled to operate w it h th e R BA and an audio
accessory.
OTE:VOX can only be enabled on the RBA
during radio power up.
To Activate VOX
1.Turn of f your radio.
2.Press and hold the RBA PTT button while
turning on the radio. Release the PTT button
after power-up.
3.Turn on your au di o accesso ry.
4.Turn your radio to the assigned VOX channel.
5.Establish the wire le ss connec tion . Refer to
“Establis hing the Bluetooth Wirel ess Connection” on page 9.
• Once the connection has been established,
your radio and audio access ory operate in
VOX mode.

REPLACING THE HHLN4125 SIDE CONNECTOR

Disassembling the Side Connector Board
1.Detach the R BA from the rad io.
2.Remove the two screws in
the hous ing/ button assem bly using a T6 Torx® driver.
3.Gently pull the rubber gasket from the hous in g/button
assembly.
4.Lift the cover flap of the

5.Repeat Steps 1 through 3 to disassemble the
replacement side connector.
Reassembling the Side Connector Board
1.Lift the cover flap of the 15-pin connector and
