Feeding Direction (copy paper path)
In thi s cop i er sy st em, co py pap er is t a ken up fr om t he rig h t- han d si de of the co p ier an d fed th ro ugh the copier t o ward the left-hand side, out face up o nto the Exit Tray. In the figure below, the direction in which the copy paper is fed, as indicated by the arrow, is called the "feeding direction."

1. Installing the Copie r
Installation Site
To ensure utmost safety and prevent possible malfunctions of the copier, install it in a location which meets the following requir ement s.
A place away from a curtai n or the like that may catch fire and burn easily.
An area where there is no possibility of being splashed with water or other types of liquid.
An area free from direct sun light.
Chapter 1
A place out of the direct air stream of an air conditioner, heater, or ventil ator.
A well-ventilated place.
A dry place.
A dust-free location .
An area not subject to undue vibration.
A stable and level location.
Safety Notes
Power Source
The power source voltage requi remen ts are as follows.
Use a power source with little voltage fluctuation.
Voltage Fluctuation : Within ±10% Frequency Fluctuation : Within ±0.3%
If any other electrical equipment is sourced from the same power outlet, make sure that the capacity of the outlet is not exceeded.
The outlet should be lo cated near the copier a nd easi ly accessible.
Never connect any other appl iances o r machines by means o f a multiple so cket to the outlet bein g used fo r the copi e r.
If an extension cord is need ed, us e one with a capaci ty more than the power con sump t ion of the copier.
Make sure that no unusual, excessive force is bein g appl ied t o the pow er cord or extension cord.
Grounding
To prevent receiving electrical shocks in the case of electrical leakage, always ground the copier. Connect the grounding wire to:
The ground terminal of the outlet.
A grounding contact which complies with the local electrical stan dards.
NOTE
Never connect the grounding wire to a gas pipe, the grounding wire for a telephone or a water pipe.

Space Requirements
To ensure easy c opie r operation, supply replacements and service maintenance, adhere to the recommended space requirements detailed below.

Be sure to allow a clearance of 150 mm or more at the back of the copier as there is a ventilation duct.

2. Precautions for Use
Operating Environment
The operating environmental req ui remen ts of the copier are as follows.
Temperature : 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 86°F) with a fluctuation of 10°C (50°F) per hour. Humidity : 15% to 85% with a fluctuation of 20% per hour.
Chapter 1
Using the Copier Properly
To ensure the optimum performance of the copier, follow the precautions listed below.
NEVER place a he avy object on the copier o r subject th e copier to s hocks.
NEVER open any Doors, or turn OFF the copier while the copier is making copies.
NEVER bring any magnetized object or use flammable sprays near the copier.
NEVER place a vase or vessel containing water on the copier.
Safety Notes
NEVER drop paper clips, staples, or other small pieces of metal into the copier.
NEVER attempt to remove any Cover that is secured .
ALWAYS insert the Power Plug all the way into the ou tlet.
ALWAYS make sure that the outlet is visible, clear of the copier or copier cabinet.
ALWAYS ensure that the cop ier doe s not ride on the po wer cord or commu nicat i ons ca ble of othe r electrical equipment, and it does not get such a cord or cable wedged into its own mechanism.
NEVER leave a damaged or cracked copier power cord unatten d ed . If you find any of these conditions, immediately shut down the copier, unplug the power cord, and c all your Technical Representative for appropriate action.

NEVER leave th e copier running when it becomes inordinately hot or produces abnormal noise. If that happens, immediately tu rn OFF the copier, unplug it, and then call y our Technical Representative.
NOTE
= Locate the Copier in a Well Ventilated Roo m = A negligible amoun t of ozone is g enerated during normal operation of thi s copier. An unpleasant odor may, however, be created in poorly ventilated rooms during extensive copier operations. For a comfo r ta ble, heal thy, a nd safe operating enviro nmen t, it is recommended that the room be well ventila ted.

2. Precautions for Use
Care of Copier Supplies
Use the following precau tio ns w hen handling th e co pier supplies (toner, paper, etc.).
Store the paper, ton er, an d other supplies in a place f ree f ro m di rect sunlight and away from any heating apparatus. K eep t hem in a dry, clean environment.
Store paper, which has been removed from its wrapper but not loaded into the Drawer, in a sealed plastic bag in a cool, dark place.
Keep supplies out of the reach of children.
If your hands become soiled with toner, wash them with soap and water immediately.
Moving
If you need to transport the copier over a long distance, consult your Technical Representative.

What’s a Touch Panel?
When you tu rn the copier O N , the Basic screen as shown below appears o n the Touch Panel.

Energy Saver Mode
If the copier is shut down when it is not in use, it takes the copier a maximum of 2 minut es and 30 seconds to complete the war m-u p cycle. Ins tead of turning the c opier OFF, it’s a good idea to use the Energy Saver mode. This mode will mini mize the time it takes the copier to complete the warm-up cycle to about 30 seconds.

The Automatic/Duplexing Document Feeder AF-3/AFR-9 automatically feeds in sheet originals placed on the Document Feed Tray one by on e. Useful Tip
This feature is a great advantage when you need to make a large number of copies on the same size paper . F or example, you can make up to 2,000 copies witho ut interruption if all four drawers are loaded with paper of the same size and in the same direction. You can even make up to 5,000 copies if an optional C-301 is additionally fitted to the copier.

Auto Dual Function
Each of the Sort Bins holds up to 50 (*25) sheets of paper. The Auto Dual Function, however, allows sorting of copies of up to 100 (*50) originals under certain conditions.
NOTE
The numbers given in the following are for Staple Sorter ST-206 and 20-Bin Sorter S-205. The numbe r s m ar ke d with * are for Staple Sort er ST-101 an d 1 0- B in S or ter S-104.
Auto Dual Function in the Sort Mode
When 10 (*5) or less copies are made from an original set co nsis ting of mor e than 50 (*25) originals in the Sor t M od e, the So rter or Staple Sort er is au tomatically switched into the Auto Dual Function Mode using the 11th (*6th) to 20th (*10 th) Bi ns.

Specifying the Place for Insert
In the Page Insertion mod e, you must speci fy where to place an insert. Two ways are available to specify the insert places, either ADF Detecti on or 10 -Key Pad Input.
ADF Detection (automatic d etect ion)
Put a sheet of paper of a different size from the originals at your desired places in the original set ( for conv enien ce, let us call this paper the insert sett ing paper), load the origi nal set onto the AFR-9, and l e t the copier sta r t the orig in a l count sequence. This allows the copier to detect the places fo r inse r ts. Up to 20 sheets can be inserted.
NOTE
ADF Detection can not be operated when the Mixed Original Detection Mode is set.
