To ensure utmost safety and prevent possible malfunctions of the copier, install it in a location which
meets the following requir ement s.

2. Precautions for Use
Operating Environment
The operating environmental req ui remen ts of the copier are as follows.
Temperature: 10°C to 35°C (50°F to 86°F) with a fluctuation of 10°C (50°F) per hour.
Humidity: 15% to 85% with a fluctuation of 20% per hour.

Using the Copier Properly
To ensure the optimum performance of the copier, follow the precautions listed below.
◆
NEVER place a heavy object on the copier or subject the copier to shocks.
◆
NEVER open any Doors, or turn OFF the copier while the copier is making copies.
◆
NEVER bring any magnetized ob ject or use flammable sprays near the copier.
◆
ALWAYS insert the Power Plug all the way int o the outlet.
◆
ALWAYS make sure that the outlet is visible, clear of the copier or copier cabinet.
◆
ALWAYS provide good ventilation when making a large number of continuous copies.
NOTE
= Locate the Copier in a Well Ventilated Room =
A negligible amount of ozone is g e ne rated during normal operati on of thi s copier. An
unpleasant odor may, however, be created in poorly ventilated rooms during extensive copier
operations. For a comfortable, healthy, and safe operating environment, it is recommended that
the room be well ventilated.

Care of Copier Supplies
Use the following precautions when handling the copier supplies (toner, paper, etc.).

Store the paper, ton er, an d other supplies in a place f ree f ro m di rect sunlight and away from any
heating apparatus. K eep t hem in a dry, clean environment.

Store paper, which has been removed from its wrapper but not loaded into the Drawer, in a
sealed plastic bag in a cool, dark place.

Keep supplies out of the reach of children.
◆
If your hands become soiled with toner, wash them with soap and water immediately.

Interrupt Mode
The Interrupt Mode allows you to interrupt a
current job and run a different one. Pressing
the Interrupt Key once sets the copier into the
Interrupt Mode. Pressi ng the Key again
cancels the Interrupt Mode and returns to the
previous settings.
Useful Tips
•
If the current job involves 2-sided
copying or Cover Mode, the copier
rejects an Inter rupt Mo de.
•
If the current job involves Sort,
Sort-and-Staple or Group, Non-Sort is
automatically selected at the same time
when the copier is set into the Interrupt
Mode.
Even during warm-up, the co pier can be set
into the Auto Copy Start Funct ion by lo ading
the originals o nto the Automatic / Duplexing
Document Feeder and pr es s ing the Start Key.
This function allows a copy process to be
started as soon as the copier completes

Energy Saver Mode
Instead of turning the copier OFF, it’s a good
idea to use the Energy Saver Mode. This mode
will minimize the time for the copier to
complete the warm-up cycle to about 20 sec.

The Energy Saver Mode is au tomatically
activated a given period of time after the
copier has been used last.
The initial sett ing is 15 min.
•
Pressing the En erg y Sav i ng Ke y sets t he
copier into the Energy Saver Mode.
•
To cancel the Energy Saver Mode, press any
key on the Control Panel, for inst ance, the

Using the Automatic/Depleting Document Feeder
Automatic/Deplet ing Docu ment Feeder automatically feeds in sheet ori ginals p laced on the
Document Feed Tray on e by one. After the copy cycle has been c ompleted, it automatically
ejects the ori gin al out onto the Document Exit Tray.
Some originals may not be suitable for reliable operation of the Docu ment Feeder. Here is a

Auto Dual Function
Each of the Sort Bins holds up to 25 sheets of paper. The Auto Dual Function, however, allows
sorting of copies of up to 50 originals under certain conditions.

Sort Mode, the Sorter or Staple Sorter is au tomatically sw itched into the Auto Dual Functio n

Toner Replenisher
The copier tends to exhaust the supply of toner rapidly when making a number of copies from an
original with dark s olid areas such as a photo. As a result, the image density of the cop y will
become lighter. In such a case, you can use the Toner Repleni she r funct io n to regain the normal
image de nsity quickly.
Press the Auxiliary Toner Replen is hi ng Key.
*This causes the c opier to initiate toner replenishing, which lasts for 90 seconds at maximum.

charging cycle for approximately
5 minutes.
During this cycles, do not open the
Fron t Door.
During this cycle, six s egments o f the
ones digit LED on the Magnification
Ratio In di c at or fo rmi ng a "0" li gh t up
and go out one after another,
indicating that the copier is being
charged with starter.
When the copier has been completely
charged with Starter, the indication on
the Magnificatio n Ratio Indicator
changes to "100 " and the cycle stops.

Magnification Ratio Indicator, the tape
has no t been rem o ved fr om t he St ar te r
Bottle. Swing down the Front Door
and remove the tape and perform the
starter charging procedure again.
