WARNING To reduce the risk of elec-
tric shock, always hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces. Do not touch or hold antenna during operation. Do not allow antenna to contact "live" electrical parts.
Using the Antenna
The antenna sends a test voltage to the fi xture to diagnose the failure.
• Pull the antenna fi rmly out.
• Don't bend the antenna or use excessive force.
• The protective plastic sleeve should extend fi rst
and retract last.
• Don't touch during use.
Attaching/Removing the Adapter
Use the adapter to enhance the fl icker response during LAMP Tests.
1. Turn the dial to OFF.
2. Raise the antenna a couple of inches out of the tool. Note: Do not attach or remove the adapter when the antenna is fully extended. This may bend the antenna.
3. To attach the adapter , align the slot in the adapter with the end of the antenna. Press the adapter rmly onto the antenna.
4. T o remove the adapter , pull the antenna end out of the adapter slot.

LED Worklight
Turn the dial to LAMP, BALLAST, or PIN. Press the worklight button , on the side of the tool, to turn the LED worklight on and off. The worklight will turn off after about 10 minutes and can be turned back on by pressing the worklight button
again.
Testing the Fixture
WARNING To reduce the risk of elec-
tric shock, always hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces. Do not touch or hold antenna during operation. Do not allow antenna to contact "live" electrical parts.
To determine the failure in the lighting fi xture, per- form the following tests, in order, until the failure is identifi ed.
LAMP Test
The LAMP Test can be performed while the fl uo- rescent lamp is in hand or installed in a fi xture.
1. Turn power off to the lighting fi xture.
2. Remove the light fi xture cover.
3. Extend the antenna to desired length. Always retract the antenna when not in use.
Note: Add the lamp adapter to the antenna
end or decrease the antenna length for an enhanced “fl icker” response.
4. Turn the dial to LAMP.
5. Holding the tool by its insulated gripping surfaces, touch the antenna to any part of a lamp. Do not contact the fi xture's live electrical parts.
6. Hold down the TEST button.
7. Test all lamps in the fi xture.
8. Two possible outcomes:
a. The lamp is not energized by the antenna,
indicating gas has escaped from the lamp.
• Replace the lamp. b. The lamp is energized by the antenna
causing it to “fl icker” light every second, indicating the lamp is fi lled with gas.
• Continue with the BALLAST Test.
BALLAST Test
The BALLAST Test works for all T8 Electronic Ballasts. A BALLAST Test cannot be done if the xture is turned off.
1. Turn power on to the lighting fi xture.
2. Extend the antenna to desired length. Always retract the antenna when not in use.
3. Turn the dial to BALLAST
For Lit T8 Lamps:
4. Holding the tool by its insulated gripping surfaces, place the antenna end within 1" of any part of a lit lamp. Do not contact the fi xture's live electrical parts.
5. Hold down the TEST button.
6. Two possible outcomes: a. The tool indicator does not beep or fl ash
red, indicating that the ballast is not working properly.
Replace the ballast. Continue checking all lamps in the fi xture as multiple ballasts may be present.
b. The tool indicator beeps and fl ashes red,
indicating the fixture has a functioning electronic ballast.
• Continue with next step.
For Unlit T8 Lamps:
7. Holding the tool by its insulated gripping surfaces, place the antenna within 1" of each end of the unlit lamp. Do not contact the fi xture's live electrical parts. It is best to test the ballast from directly below the lamp you are testing, this will prevent the antenna from picking up frequencies from adjacent lamps.
8. Hold down the TEST button.
9. Two possible outcomes:
a. The tool indicator does not beep or fl ash
red, on either end of the lamp when tested, indicating that the ballast is not working properly.
Replace the ballast. Continue checking all lamps in the fi xture as multiple ballasts may be present
b. The tool indicator beeps and fl ashes red
on at least one end of the lamp, indicating the ballast is working properly.
• Continue with the PIN test.
For T5/T12 Ballasts: Some T5/T12 Ballasts have an End-of-Life feature. The End-of-Life feature will turn off the ballast when there is any broken connection, like a bad lamp. T o test a T5/T12 Ballast, fi rst use the LAMP T est and replace all faulty lamps. Cycle the fi xture OFF and back ON to reset the ballast before continuing with the BALLAST T est. If the ballast fails the BALLAST T est, contact a qualifi ed electrician to service the fi xture.
PIN Test
The PIN Test can be used on any dual pin Fluorescent Lamps. Fluorescent Lamps have a fi lament under the metal cap that is used to excite the gas it contains and turn it on. If the fi lament is broken, the lamp will not operate correctly.
1. Turn the power off to the lighting fi xture.
2. Remove lamp from the fi xture.
3. Turn dial to PIN.
4. Plug the lamp pins into the pin slots on the bottom of the tool.
5. Hold down the TEST button.
6. Two possible outcomes:
a. The tool indicator does not beep or fl ash
red, indicating that the fi lament is broken.
Replace the lamp. b. The tool indicator beeps, indicating the
PINS are functional.
The PINS are good.
7. Repeat with other end of the lamp.
If the Fluorescent Lighting passes all three tests but will not light, contact a qualifi ed electrician to service the fi xture.
