Warning and Safety instructions

This appliance complies with all statutory safety requirements.
Please note that inappropriate use can lead to personal injury and
damage to property.

To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance,
please read these instructions carefully before using it for the first
time. They contain important notes on installation, safety, use and
maintenance.

Miele cannot be held liable for non-compliance with these instruc­tions.

Keep these instructions in a safe place and ensure that new users
are familiar with the contents. Pass them on to any future owner.

Correct application

 This refrigeration appliance is intended for use in the home and in

similar environments, for example
– in shops, offices and similar work settings
– by the guests in hotels, motels, bed & breakfasts and other typical
home settings.
This refrigeration appliance is not intended for outdoor use.

 This appliance is intended for domestic use only for cooling and

storing food and drink as well as for storing deep frozen food, freez­ing fresh food and for making ice.
Any other usage is not supported by the manufacturer and could be
dangerous.

 This appliance is not suitable for storing and keeping cool medi-

cines, blood plasma, laboratory preparations or other such materials
or products. Incorrect use of the appliance for such purposes can
cause deterioration of the items stored. The appliance is not suitable
for use in areas where there is a risk of explosion.
Miele cannot be held liable for damage resulting from improper or in­correct use of the appliance.

 The appliance can only be used by people with reduced physical,

sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge,
if they are supervised whilst using it, or have been shown how to use
it in a safe way and recognise and understand the consequences of
incorrect operation.

Safety with children

 Children under 8 years of age must be kept away from the appli-

ance unless they are constantly supervised.

 Children 8 years and older may only use the appliance unsuper-

vised if they have been shown how to use it in a safe way and recog­nise and understand the consequences of incorrect operation.

 Children must not be allowed to clean or maintain the appliance

unsupervised.

 Please supervise children in the vicinity of the appliance and do

not let them play with it.

 Danger of suffocation! Whilst playing, children could become en-

tangled in packaging (such as plastic wrapping) or pull it over their
head and suffocate. Keep packaging material away from children.

Technical safety

 The coolant system is tested for leaks. This appliance complies

with statutory safety requirements and the appropriate EU
guidelines.

 This appliance contains the coolant Isobutane (R600a), a natural

gas which is environmentally friendly. Although it is flammable, it
does not damage the ozone layer and does not increase the green­house effect.
The use of this coolant has, however, led to a slight increase in the
noise level of the appliance. In addition to the noise of the com­pressor, you might be able to hear the coolant flowing around the
system. This is unavoidable, and does not have any adverse effect
on the performance of the appliance.
Care must be taken during the transportation and setting up of the
appliance that no parts of the cooling system are damaged. Leaking
coolant can damage the eyes.
In the event of any damage:

– avoid naked flames or anything which creates a spark,
– disconnect the appliance from the mains electricity supply,
– ventilate the room where the appliance is located for several

minutes, and

– contact the Miele Service Department.

 The more coolant there is in a refrigeration appliance, the larger

the room it should be installed in. In the event of a leakage, if the ap­pliance is in a small room, there is the danger of combustible gases
building up. For every 11 g of coolant at least 1m3 of room space is
required. The amount of coolant in the appliance is stated on the
data plate inside the appliance.

 To avoid the risk of damage to the appliance, make sure that the

connection data (fuse rating, frequency and voltage) on the data
plate corresponds to the household supply.
Check that this is the case before connecting the appliance. Consult
a qualified electrician if in any doubt.

 The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed

when correctly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety re­quirement is met. If in any doubt please have the electrical installa­tion tested by a qualified electrician.

 Reliable and safe operation of this appliance can only be assured

if it has been connected to the mains electricity supply.

 If the electrical connection cable is faulty it must only be replaced

by a Miele authorised service technician to protect the user from
danger.

 Do not connect the appliance to the mains electrical supply by a

multi-socket adapter or extension lead. These are a fire hazard and
do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance.

 If moisture gets into electrical components or into the mains con-

nection cable, it could cause a short circuit. Therefore, do not oper­ate this refrigeration appliance in areas which are exposed to mois­ture (e.g in a garage or utility room).

 This appliance must not be used in a non-stationary location (e.g.

on a ship).

 Do not use a damaged appliance. It could be dangerous. Check

the appliance for visible signs of damage.

 For safety reasons, this appliance may only be used after it has

been built in.

 The appliance must be isolated from the electricity supply during

installation, maintenance and repair work.

 Unauthorised installation, maintenance and repairs can cause

considerable danger for the user.
Installation, maintenance and repairs must only be carried out by a
Miele authorised technician.

 While the appliance is under warranty, repairs should only be un-

dertaken by a Miele authorised service technician. Otherwise the
warranty is invalidated.

 Miele can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when genu-

ine original Miele replacement parts are used. Faulty components
must only be replaced by Miele spare parts.

Correct use

 The appliance is designed for use within a certain climate range

(ambient temperatures), and should not be used outside this range.
The climate range for your appliance is stated on the data plate in­side the appliance. Installing it in a room with too low an ambient
temperature, e.g. a garage, will lead to the appliance switching off
for longer periods so that it cannot maintain the required temperat­ure.

 Do not cover or block the air vents as this could impair the effi-

ciency of the appliance, increase the electricity consumption and
could cause damage to the components.

 If storing food which contains a lot of fat or oil in the appliance or

the door, make sure that it does not come into contact with plastic
components as this could cause stress cracks or break the plastic.

 Do not store explosive materials in the appliance or any products

containing propellants (e.g. spray cans). Electrical components could
cause flammable vapours to ignite. Danger of fire and explosion.

 Do not operate any electrical equipment (e.g. an electric ice cream

maker) inside the appliance. Danger of sparking and explosion.

 Do not store cans or bottles containing carbonated drinks or li-

quids which could freeze in the freezer. The cans or bottles could ex­plode. Danger of injury and damage to the appliance.

 When cooling drinks quickly in the freezer, make sure bottles are

not left in for more than one hour; otherwise they could burst, caus­ing injury or damage.

 Never handle frozen food or the metal parts of the appliance with

wet hands. Your hands may freeze to the frozen food or to the metal.
Danger of frost burn.

 Do not take ice cubes out with your bare hands and never place

ice cubes or ice lollies in your mouth straight from the freezer. The
very low temperature of the frozen ice or lollies can cause frost burn
to the lips and tongue.

 Do not refreeze partially or fully defrosted food. Consume defros-

ted food as soon as possible, as it will lose its nutritional value and
spoil if left for too long. Defrosted food may only be re-frozen after it
has been cooked.

 Observe the manufacturer's "use-by" dates and storage instruc-

tions given on food to avoid the risk of food poisoning. Storage times
will depend on several factors, including the freshness and quality of
the food, as well as the temperature at which it is stored.

 Only use genuine original Miele accessories and spare parts with

this appliance. Using accessories or spare parts from other manu­facturers will invalidate the warranty, and Miele cannot accept liabil­ity.

Cleaning and care

 Do not use any oils or grease on the door seals, as these will

cause the seals to deteriorate and become porous with time.

 Do not use a steam cleaning appliance to clean or defrost this ap-

pliance.
Steam could reach electrical components and cause a short circuit.

 Sharp edged or pointed objects will damage the evaporator, caus-

ing irreversible damage to the appliance. Do not use sharp edged or
pointed objects to

– remove frost and ice,
– separate frozen foods or remove ice trays.

 Do not place electric heaters or candles in the appliance to de-

frost it. These can damage the plastic parts.

 Do not use defrosting sprays or de-icers, as they could contain

substances which could damage the plastic parts or which might
cause the build-up of gases and pose a danger to health.

Transporting the appliance

 Always transport the appliance in an upright position and in its ori-

ginal transport packaging to avoid damage in transit.

 Danger of injury and damage. The appliance is very heavy and

must be transported by two people.

Disposal of your old appliance

 Before disposing of an old appliance, first make the door latch or

lock unusable.
This way you will prevent children from accidentally locking them­selves in and endangering their lives.

 Splashes of coolant can damage the eyes. Be careful not to dam-

age any part of the pipework whilst awaiting disposal, e.g. by

– puncturing the coolant channels in the condenser,
– bending any pipework, or
– scratching the surface coating.

Symbol on the compressor (depending on model)

This information is only relevant for recycling. In normal operation there is no risk.

 The oil in the compressor can be fatal if swallowed or if it penet-

rates the airways.

Caring for the environment

Disposal of the packing mater­ial

The packaging is designed to protect
the appliance from damage during
transportation. The packaging materials
used are selected from materials which
are environmentally friendly for disposal
and should be recycled.

Recycling the packaging reduces the
use of raw materials in the manufactur­ing process and also reduces the
amount of waste in landfill sites.

Disposal of your old appliance

Electrical and electronic appliances of­ten contain valuable materials. They
also contain specific materials, com­pounds and components, which were
essential for their correct function and
safety. These could be hazardous to hu­man health and to the environment if
disposed of with your domestic waste
or if handled incorrectly. Please do not,
therefore, dispose of your old appliance
with your household waste.

Please dispose of it at your local com­munity waste collection / recycling
centre for electrical and electronic ap­pliances, or contact your dealer or
Miele for advice. You are also respons­ible (by law, depending on country) for
deleting any personal data that may be
stored on the appliance being disposed
of.

Take care not to damage the pipework
at the back of it before or during trans­portation to an authorised collection de­pot.
In this way, refrigerant in the pipework
and oil in the compressor will be con­tained, and will not leak into the envir­onment.

Please ensure that your old appliance
presents no danger to children while
being stored awaiting disposal. See
"Warning and Safety instructions" for
more information.

Optional accessories

A range of useful Miele accessories and
care products are available for your ap­pliance.

Multi-purpose microfibre cloth

The microfibre cloth is suitable for re­moving fingerprints and light soiling
from surfaces such as stainless steel,
glass, plastic and chrome without the
use of chemicals.

MicroCloth Kit

The MicroCloth Kit contains a universal
cloth, a glass cloth and a polishing
cloth.
These cloths are extremely rip-proof
and hard-wearing. Thanks to very fine
microfibres these cloths achieve excel­lent cleaning results.

Bottle rack

KKF-FF Active AirClean charcoal fil­ters with holder

Charcoal filters neutralise unpleasant
odours in the refrigerator section for im­proved air quality.

The charcoal filter holder clips onto the
protective strip at the back of the shelf
and can be moved as necessary.

KKF-RF
ActiveAirClean replacement filters

Replacement filters to the fit the Active
AirClean holder are available. We re­commend replacing the charcoal filters
every 6months.

Bottles can be stored horizontally using
the bottle rack to save space.
The bottle rack can be placed at differ­ent positions in the appliance.

Split shelf

In order to accommodate tall items in
the appliance, one of the shelves is di­vided. The front section can be pushed
under the rear section.

Accessories are available to order via
the Miele Webshop, from Miele dir­ectly (see back cover for contact de­tails) or from your Miele dealer.

Switching on and off

Before using for the first time

Packaging material

 Remove all packaging material from

the inside of the appliance.

Protective foil

The stainless steel trim to the interior
shelves and the door shelves has a
layer of protective foil to prevent dam­age during transportation.

 Carefully remove the protective foil

from the stainless steel trim.

Cleaning

Please refer to the relevant instruc­tions in "Cleaning and care".

 Clean the inside of the appliance and

the accessories.

Accessories

- Bottle holder

The flexible ribs grip the bottles se­curely when the door is opened and
closed.

 Attach the bottle holder centrally

along the rear edge of the bottle
shelf, as shown.

Switching on and off

Switching on

To enable the temperature to get suffi­ciently cold inside the appliance, allow
it to run for approx. 2hours before
placing food in it.
Do not place food in the freezer sec­tion until the temperature is at least

-18°C.

The freezer section and the refrigerator
section can be switched on at the
same time using the right-hand main
On/Off button.

 Press the right-hand main On/Off but-

ton to switch on the freezer section
and the refrigerator section.

The appliance will start to cool and the
temperature required will appear in the
temperature display. The refrigerator
section interior lighting will come on
when the door is opened.

Switching off

 To switch off the freezer section and

the refrigerator section, press and
hold the right-hand main On/Off but­ton until the display goes out.

The refrigerator section and freezer sec­tion are switched off. If this is does not
happen, the safety lock is still activated
(see "Selecting further settings - To de­activate the safety lock).

The refrigerator section interior lighting
will go out and the cooling process will
be switched off.

Switching off the refrigerator section separately

The refrigerator section can be
switched off without having to switch
off the freezer section. This is useful,
e.g. whilst on holiday.

 To switch off the refrigerator section,

press the left-hand On/Off button un­til the display goes out.

The interior lighting and the temperature
display for the refrigerator section will
go out. The refrigerator section is
switched off. The temperature display
for the freezer section will remain on.

Switching on and off

Switching the refrigerator section back on again

The refrigerator section can also be
switched back on again separately.

 To switch the refrigerator section on,

press the left-hand On/Off button.

The temperature display for the refriger­ator section lights up. The refrigerator
section starts to cool and the interior
lighting comes on when the door is
opened.

Switching off for longer peri­ods of time

 If, during a long absence, the ap-

pliance is switched off but not
cleaned and the door(s) left shut,
there is a danger of mould building
up inside the appliance.

It is essential to clean the appliance.

If the appliance is not going to be used
for a longer period of time, e.g. whilst
on holiday:

 switch the appliance off,
 disconnect it from the mains,
 clean the appliance and
 leave the door(s) ajar to air the appli-

ance and avoid odours building up in­side the appliance.

It is also advisable to carry out the last
two instructions if you are switching
the refrigerator section off for a longer
period of time.

The correct temperature

It is very important to set the correct
temperature for storing food in the ap­pliance. Micro-organisms will cause
food which is not stored at the correct
temperature to deteriorate rapidly. Tem­perature influences the growth rate of
these micro-organisms. Reducing the
temperature reduces their growth rate.

The temperature in the appliance will
rise:

– the more often the door is opened

and the longer it is kept open,

– the more food that is stored in it,

– the warmer the food is which is being

put into it,

– the higher the ambient temperature

surrounding the appliance. The appli­ance is designed for use within spe­cific ambient temperatures (climate
range). Do not use in ambient tem­peratures for which it is not designed.

. . . in the refrigerator section

We recommend a temperature of 4°C
in the refrigerator section.

Automatic temperature distribution (DynaCool)

The fan switches on automatically when
the cooling system for the refrigerator
switches on. It distributes the temperat­ure in the appliance to all areas more
evenly so that all the food will be chilled
to about the same degree.

. . . in the freezer section

To freeze fresh food and to store frozen
food for a long time, a temperature of

-18°C is required. At this temperature
the growth of micro-organisms is gener­ally halted. As soon as the temperature
rises above -10°C, the micro-organ­isms become active in the food again
so that it cannot be kept as long. For
this reason, partially defrosted or fully
defrosted food must not be re-frozen.
Food may be re-frozen once it has been
cooked, as the high temperatures
achieved when cooking destroy most
micro-organisms.

The correct temperature

Temperature display

In normal operation the temperature
display either shows the required

temperature in the refrigerator sec­tion or the required temperature in
the freezer section.

Tip: To switch between temperature

displays, press the relevant button for
selecting the temperature of the sec­tion you wish to view.

The displayed temperature will flash,
if a different temperature is set.

The required temperature in the

freezer section temperature display
and the alarm symbol will flash:

– If the temperature is not within the

normal temperature display range.

– If the temperature in the appliance

has risen by several degrees, indicat­ing that the appliance is warming up
too much. At the same time an alarm
will sound.

This short-term loss of coldness is no
cause for concern in the following cir­cumstances:

– If the appliance doors were left open

or for longer than usual, e.g. when a
large amount of food is being loaded
or taken out.

– If you have just placed fresh food in

the appliance for freezing.

If the temperature in the freezer re­mains above -18°C for a long time,
check that the frozen food has not
started to defrost. If it has, check
that the food is safe to use and if it
is, then use it as soon as possible.

Setting the temperature in the refrigerator / freezer sections

The temperature can be adjusted:

– in the refrigerator section from 1°C to

9°C

– in the freezer section from -15°C to

-26°C.

The temperatures for the refrigerator
section and the freezer section can be
adjusted using the relevant button for
setting the temperature.

 Press the button for setting the tem-

peraturerepeatedly until the temper­ature you want lights up in the tem­perature display.

The first time you press the button the
last temperature set will flash in the dis­play.

The correct temperature

The temperature value will change until
the highest setting is reached. It will
then drop back to the lowest setting.

After a short while the newly selected
temperature is set and will appear in the
temperature display.
The refrigerator section temperature set
will now light up. The temperature set
for the freezer section will now flash un­til the temperature has been reached.

The temperature in the appliance will
now adjust slowly to the newly set tem­perature.

Using Super cool and Super freeze

Super cool function

The Super cool function can be used to
rapidly reduce the temperature in the
refrigerator section to its lowest setting
(depending on the room temperature).

Super cool is particularly recommended
for the rapid chilling of large amounts of
fresh food or drink.

The Super cool function can be
switched on if the temperature in the
refrigerator section is visible in the
temperature display.

Switching on Super cool

 Press the Super cool button.
The Super cool symbol will light up.

The appliance will work at full power to
lower the temperature in the refrigerator
section.

Switching off Super cool

The Super cool function will switch itself
off automatically after approx. 12 hours.
The Super cool symbol will go out
and the appliance will run at normal
power again.

To save energy, the Super cool function
can be switched off once food and
drinks are sufficiently chilled.

 Press the Super cool button until

thesymbol goes out.

The appliance will then continue run­ning at normal power.

Using Super cool and Super freeze

Super freeze function

Switch on Super freeze before putting
fresh food into the freezer.

This helps food to freeze quickly and re­tain its nutrients, vitamins, flavours and
appearance.

Exceptions:

– when placing food in the freezer that

is already frozen.

– when freezing up to 1kg fresh food

daily.

The Super freeze functiuon can be
switched on if the temperature in the
freezer section is visible in the temper­ature display.

Switching on Super freeze

The Super freeze function should be
switched on 6 hours before placing
food in the freezer section. When
freezing the maximum amount of food
the Super freeze function should be
switched on 24 hours beforehand.

Switching off Super freeze

The Super freeze function will switch it­self off automatically after approx.
65hours. The Super freeze symbol
will go out and the appliance will run at
normal power again.

To save energy, you can switch the Su­per freeze function off yourself before
this time.

 Press the Super freeze button until

the Super freeze symbol goes out.

The appliance will then continue run­ning at normal power.

 Press the Super freeze button briefly.
The Super freeze  symbol lights up.

The appliance will work at full power to
lower the temperature in the freezer
section.

Temperature and door alarm

The appliance has been fitted with a
warning system which ensures that the
temperature in the freezer cannot rise
unnoticed and to avoid energy being
wasted if the door is left open.

Temperature alarm

If the temperature in the freezer be­comes too warm, the temperature dis­play and the alarm symbol will flash.
An audible alarm will also sound.

The temperature the appliance is set at
determines the temperature the appli­ance recognises as being too warm.

Audible and visual signals will be activ­ated, for example,

– when the appliance is switched on if

the temperature in the appliance dif­fers greatly from the set temperature,

– if a lot of room air enters the freezer

when food is being loaded, re­arranged or taken out,

– when freezing large amounts of food

at once,

– when freezing fresh food which is still

warm,

– in the event of a power cut,

– if the appliance has a fault.

 If the temperature in the freezer

remains above -18°C for a long
time, check that the frozen food has
not started to defrost.

If it has, check that the food is safe
to use and if it is, then use it as soon
as possible or cook it before freezing
it again.

Door alarm

The alarm will sound if a door is left
open for more than 60 seconds.

It will stop as soon as the door is
closed.

Switching the alarm off early

If the noise disturbs you, you can
switch the alarm off if you wish.

 Press the Alarm off button.

The alarm will stop.
If the alarm is due to the temperature
rising, the alarm symbol  will stay on
until the set temperature has been
reached.

The alarm will stop and the alarm sym­bol  will go out when the temperature
reaches the correct level again. The
temperature display will light up again
constantly.

Storing food in the refrigerator section

 Danger of explosion.

Do not store explosive materials in
the appliance or any products con­taining propellants (e.g. spray cans).

 If storing food which contains a

lot of fat or oil in the appliance or the
appliance door, make sure that it
does not come into contact with
plastic components as this could
cause stress cracks or break the
plastic.

Make sure that no oil or grease leaks
onto the plastic parts of the appli­ance. This can cause the plastic to
crack and break.

Different storage zones

Due to natural air circulation there are
different temperature zones in the refri­gerator section.

Cold, heavy air sinks to the lowest sec­tion of the appliance. Make use of the
different temperature zones when pla­cing food in the appliance.

To allow air to circulate efficiently, do
not pack food too closely together in
the refrigerator.

Do not cover the fan in the rear wall of
the refrigerator, as this is essential for
keeping the appliance cool.

This appliance has automatic Dynamic
cooling, which helps to keep an even
temperature when the fan is running,
making the difference between the
various zones is less pronounced.

Warmest area

The warmest area in the refrigerator
section is at the top in the front area
and in the door. Use this for storing but­ter and cheese.

Coldest area

The coldest area in the refrigerator sec­tion is directly above the fruit and ve­getable drawer and at the back of the
appliance.

Use these areas to store all delicate and
highly perishable food, e.g.

– fish, meat, poultry,

– cold cuts, ready meals,

– dishes or baked goods containing

eggs or cream,

– fresh dough, cake mixtures, pizza or

quiche dough,

– soft cheese and other dairy products,

– pre-packed vegetables and other

fresh food with a label stating it
should be kept at a temperature of
approx. 4 °C.

Food must not touch the back of the
refrigerator section as it may freeze to
the back wall.

Food which is not suitable for
storage in the refrigerator sec­tion

Not all food is suitable for refrigeration
at temperatures below 5°C as some
food is sensitive to cold. The appear­ance, consistency, taste and / or the vit­amin content of certain types of food
can be adversely affected by being
stored in too cold a place.

Food which does not tolerate cold tem­peratures includes:

– Pineapples, avocados, bananas,

pomegranates, mangoes, melons,
papayas, passion fruit, citrus fruits
(such as lemons, oranges, mandar­ins, grapefruit),

– Fruit which is not yet ripe

– Aubergines/eggplant, cucumbers,

potatoes, peppers/capsicum, toma­toes, courgettes/zucchini,

– Some hard cheeses, e.g. Parmesan.

Storing food correctly

Food should generally be stored
covered or packaged in the refriger­ator section. This will prevent food
smells from affecting other food, food
from drying out, and also any cross­contamination of bacteria. This is espe­cially important for storing protein­based food such as meat or fish.
The storage time of food can be in­creased by setting the correct temper­ature and maintaining good standards
of hygiene.

Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and vegetables can be stored
loose in the fruit and vegetable drawer.

Protein rich food

Please note that food rich in protein de­teriorates faster than other types of
food. Shellfish, for example, deterior­ates faster than fish, and fish deterior­ates faster than meat.

When shopping for food

The freshness of food when first placed
in the appliance is the most important
factor in determining how long it stays
fresh, and how long it can be kept in the
appliance.
Always observe the use-by date and
the recommended storage temperature.
Time out of the refrigerator should be
kept to a minimum, for example, when
transporting food in a hot car.

Tip: Take a cool bag with you when
shopping and on return place food into
the appliance immediately.

The shelves can be adjusted according
to the height of the food.

 Raise the shelf, and pull it forwards

slightly until the notch at the side is in
line with the shelf support. It can then
be raised or lowered to the required
level.

The raised edge on the protective strip
at the back must face upwards to pre­vent food from touching the back of the
appliance and freezing to it.

Stoppers prevent the shelves from be­ing dislodged by mistake.

Fruit and vegetable drawer

The fruit and vegetable drawer is on
rollers and can be removed for filling,
emptying or cleaning purposes.

 Pull the bottle holder upwards to re-

move it from the rear edge of the
bottle shelf.

The bottle rack is available as an op­tional accessory (see "Accessories ­optional accessories").

The bottle rack can be placed at differ­ent positions in the appliance.

 Raise the bottle rack slightly at the

front, and pull it forwards a little until
the notch at the side is in line with the
shelf support. It can then be raised or
lowered to the required level.

The rear rail must face upwards to pre­vent bottles from touching the back of
the appliance.

Moving the charcoal filters

Charcoal filters and a KKF-FF (Active
AirClean) holder are available as op­tional accessories (see "Accessories ­optional accessories").

With very strong smelling food (e.g. very
ripe cheese):

– Place the holder with the charcoal fil-

ters on the shelf where this food is
kept.

– Change the charcoal filters earlier if

necessary.

– Use more charcoal filters (with hold-

ers) in the appliance (see "Accessor­ies - Optional accessories").

The holder for the charcoal filters sits
on the protective strip at the back of the
shelf.

 To move the charcoal filters, pull the

holder upwards to remove it from the
protective strip.

Stoppers prevent the bottle rack from
being dislodged by mistake.

Freezing and storing food

Maximum freezing capacity

To ensure that fresh food placed in the
freezer freezes through to the core as
quickly as possible, the maximum
freezing capacity must not be ex­ceeded. The maximum freezing capa­city for freezing within a 24-hour period
is given on the data plate: "Freezing ca-

pacity ....kg/24hrs".

The maximum freezing capacity given
on the data plate has been calculated
according to DINENISO15502Stand­ard.

Freezing fresh food

Fresh food should be frozen as quickly
as possible. This way the nutritional
value of the food, its vitamin content,
appearance and taste are not impaired.

Food which takes a long time to freeze
will lose more water from its cells,
which then shrink. During the defrosting
process, only some of this water is re­absorbed by the cells; the rest collects
around the food.

Storing frozen food

When buying frozen food to store in
your freezer, check

– that the packaging is not damaged,

– the use-by date,

– the temperature at which the frozen

food is being stored in the shop. The
length of time it can be kept is re­duced if it has been stored at a tem­perature warmer than -18 °C.

 Buy frozen food once you have fin-

ished the rest of your shopping, and
wrap it in newspaper or use a cool
bag or cool box to transport it.

 Store it in the freezer as soon as pos-

sible.

 Never re-freeze partially or fully

defrosted food. Consume defrosted
food as soon as possible as it will
lose its nutritional value and spoil if
left for too long. Defrosted food may
only be re-frozen after it has been
cooked.

If food is frozen quickly, the cells have
less time to lose moisture, so they
shrink less. As there is not so much
moisture loss, it is easier for the food to
reabsorb it during the defrosting pro­cess, and very little water collects
around the defrosted food.

Home freezing

Only freeze fresh food which is in a
good condition.

Hints on home freezing – The following types of food are suit-

able for freezing:

Fresh meat, poultry, game, fish, ve­getables, herbs, fresh fruit, dairy
products, cakes, leftovers, egg yolks,
egg whites and a range of pre­cooked meals.

– The following types of food are not

suitable for freezing:
Grapes, lettuce, radishes, soured
cream, mayonnaise, eggs in their
shells, onions, whole raw apples and
pears.

– To retain colour, taste, aroma and vit-

amin C, vegetables should be
blanched before they are frozen. To
do so place them portion by portion
into boiling water for 2–3minutes.
Remove, and plunge into ice-cold
water to cool quickly. Drain and pack
ready for freezing.

– Lean meat freezes better than fatty

meat, and can be stored for consid­erably longer.

– Separate chops, steaks, cutlets etc.

with a sheet of plastic freezer film.
This prevents them from freezing to­gether in a block.

– Do not salt or season raw food or

blanched vegetables before freezing.
Cooked food should only be lightly
salted and seasoned. Some herbs in­tensify the taste of food when frozen.

– Placing hot foods or drinks in the

freezer causes food that is already
frozen to partially thaw and increases
energy consumption. Allow hot foods
and drinks to cool down before pla­cing them in the freezer.

 Freeze food in portions.

 When freezing more than 1kg of

fresh food, switch on the Super
freeze function for some time before
placing the food in the freezer (see
"Using Super cool and Super freeze ­Super freeze function").

This helps food which is already stored
in the freezer to stay frozen.

Placing food in the freezer section

 The following maximum loading

weights must not be exceeded:
– freezer drawer = 25kg
– glass cold plate = 35kg

Unfrozen food should not touch
frozen food as this will cause frozen
food to begin to thaw.

 Make sure that the packaging and

containers are dry to prevent them
sticking together when frozen.

- Freezing small amounts of food

Place the food in the upper freezer
drawers.

 Place the food flat in the bottom of

the freezer drawer so that it freezes
through to the core as quickly as pos­sible.

- Freezing the maximum amount (see data plate)

Ensure ventilation slots at the back
of the freezer section are always free
from obstruction.

If the ventilation slots are blocked the
cooling performance will decrease
and energy consumption will in­crease.

Place food on the glass plate in such
a way that the ventilation slots are
not blocked.

 Remove the upper freezer drawers.
 Place the food flat on the upper glass

cold plates so that it freezes through
to the core as quickly as possible.

Once frozen:
 Place the frozen food in the freezer

drawer and push it back in.

Storage time for frozen food

The storage life of food is very variable,
even at a constant temperature of

-18°C. Decomposition processes also
take place in frozen food, albeit at a
very reduced speed. For example fat
can become rancid from contact with
oxygen in the air. This is why lean meat
can be stored approx. twice as long as
fatty meat.

The storage times quoted are guide val­ues for the storage life of different food
groups in the freezer section.

Defrosting

Frozen food can be defrosted in differ­ent ways:

– in a microwave oven,

– in an oven using "Fan heat" or the

"Defrost" setting,

– at room temperature,

– in the refrigerator section (the cold

given off by the frozen food helps to
keep the other food cold),

– in a steam oven.

Flat pieces of partially thawed fish can
be placed directly into a hot frying pan.

Meat and poultry It is particularly im­portant to observe food hygiene rules
when defrosting poultry. Do not use the
liquid from defrosted poultry. Pour it
away and wash the container it was in,
the sink and your hands. Danger of sal­monella poisoning. Ensure that meat
and fish (e.g. mince, chicken, fish fillets)
do not come into contact with other
foods while defrosting. Catch the liquid
and dispose of it carefully.

Fruit should be defrosted at room tem­perature in its packaging, or in a
covered bowl.

Most vegetables can be cooked while
still frozen. Just put straight into boiling
water or hot fat. The cooking time is
slightly less than that of fresh veget­ables due to changes in the cell struc­ture.

The drawers can be removed for filling,
emptying or cleaning purposes.

You can also use the space in the
freezer more flexibly. If you wish to
freeze large items such as a turkey or
game, the glass cold plates between
the drawers can be removed.

 Pull out the drawers as far as they will

go, and then lift them up and out.

 Lift the glass plate slightly, pull it for-

wards and out.

 Fill the ice cube tray three quarters

full of water and place it on the bot­tom of one of the freezer drawers.

 Once frozen, use a blunt instrument,

for example a spoon handle, to re­move the ice tray from the freezer if it
is stuck.

Tip: Ice cubes can be removed easily
from the tray by twisting the tray gently
or by holding it under cold running wa­ter for a short time.

Defrosting

Refrigerator section

The refrigerator section defrosts auto­matically.

Condensate and frost can build up on
the back wall of the refrigerator section
whilst the compressor is running. You
do not need to remove this, as it will de­frost and evaporate automatically with
the warmth generated by the com­pressor.

The condensate is drained away
through a channel and drain hole, then
fed into an evaporation system at the
back of the appliance.

 Condensate must be able to

drain away unhindered at all times.
Keep the condensate channel and

drain hole clean to enable this.

Freezer section

The appliance is equipped with a "Frost
free" system. The freezer defrosts auto­matically.

The moisture generated in the appli­ance collects on the condenser and is
automatically defrosted and dissipated
from time to time.

This automatic defrosting system en­ables the freezer to remain permanently
ice-free, however, the food stored in the
freezer will not defrost.

 Do not let water get into the

electronic unit or the lighting.

 Steam from a steam cleaning ap-

pliance could reach the electrical
components and cause a short cir­cuit.

Do not use a steam cleaning appli­ance to clean the appliance.

Cleaning water must not get into the
drain hole.

The data plate located inside the ap­pliance must not be removed. It con­tains information which is required in
the event of a service call.

Cleaning agents

Cleaning and conditioning agents
used inside the appliance must be
food safe.

To avoid damaging all the surfaces of
your appliance, do not use:

– cleaning agents containing soda, am-

monia, acids or chlorides

– cleaning agents containing descaling

agents

– abrasive cleaning agents, e.g.

powder cleaners and cream cleaners

– solvent-based cleaning agents

– stainless steel cleaning agents

– dishwasher cleaner

– oven sprays

– glass cleaning agents

– hard, abrasive sponges and brushes,

e.g. pot scourers

– melamine eraser blocks

– sharp metal scrapers

We recommend using a clean sponge,
lukewarm water with a little washing-up
liquid to clean surfaces of the appli­ance.

1. Pull the stainless steel trim off the

2. Then pull the protective strip off.

Remove soiling immediately to prevent

shelves are not dishwasher safe.
Remove the trim before placing the

Contact with natural dyes from car­rots, tomatoes and ketchup may dis­colour the plastic parts in the dish­washer.

A build-up of dust will increase the en­ergy consumption of the appliance.

 The ventilation gaps should be

cleaned on a regular basis with a
brush or vacuum cleaner (e.g. use the
dusting brush for Miele vacuum
cleaners)

After cleaning

 Replace all shelves and accessories

in the appliance.

 Reconnect to the mains and switch

the appliance back on.

 Switch on the Super freeze function

for a while so that the freezer section
can cool down quickly.

 Switch on the Super cool function for

a while so that the refrigerator section
can cool down quickly.

 Place food in the refrigerator section

and close the door.

 Once the temperature in the freezer

has reached the required temperat­ure, place the food back in the freezer
drawers and put them back in the
freezer.

 Switch off the Super freeze function

as soon as the temperature in the
freezer is a constant -18°C or colder.

Replacing the charcoal filters

Charcoal filters with a KKF-FF (Active
AirClean) holder are available as op­tional accessories (see "Accessories ­Optional accessories").

Replace the charcoal filters in the
holder every 6months.

Replacement KKF-RF charcoal filters
can be obtained from your Miele
dealer, Miele or via the internet at
www.miele-shop.com.

The charcoal filter holder is dishwasher­proof.

 Pull the charcoal filter holder upwards

to remove it from the shelf.

When in position the charcoal filters
must not touch the back wall of the
appliance as the moisture could
cause them to stick to the back wall.

Insert the new charcoal filters into
the holder so that they do not pro­trude over the edge of the holder.

Cleaning and care

 Remove both charcoal filters and

place the new filters with the framed
edge pointing downwards in the
holder.

 Place the holder in the middle of the

raised edge at the back of the shelf,
so that it clicks into position.

Some minor problems can be corrected without contacting Miele.
If, having followed the suggestions below, you still cannot resolve the problem,
please contact Miele.

To prevent unnecessary loss of temperature it is advisable not to open the door
while waiting for the appliance to be serviced.

 Unauthorised installation, maintenance and repairs can cause considerable

danger for the user.
Installation, maintenance and repairs must only be carried out by a Miele au-

thorised technician.

This is not a fault. To save energy, the compressor
runs at a lower speed, but for longer, when less cool­ing is required.

Demo mode is switched on. This allows the appliance
to be presented in the showroom without the cooling
system being switched on. Do not activate this setting
for domestic use.

 Contact the Miele Service Department for informa-

tion on deactivating Demo mode.

The temperature alarm has been activated (see
"Temperature and door alarm"). The temperature in
the freezer section has risen higher or fallen lower
than the temperature set.
This could be due to, for example:

– the door being opened too frequently,

– a large quantity of fresh food being placed in the

freezer at once without switching on the Super
freeze function.

– a lengthy interruption to the power supply.

 Rectify the cause of the alarm.
The alarm will stop and the alarm symbol  will go

out when the temperature reaches the correct level
again.

 Depending on the temperature displayed, you

should check whether food in the freezer has star­ted to thaw or has defrosted. If it has, it should be
used as soon as possible. Defrosted food may
only be re-frozen after it has been cooked.

There is a fault.
 Call the Miele Service Department.

should check the condition of food in the freezer. If
it has defrosted or started to defrost, check that it
is still safe to use and, if it is, use it as soon as
possible. Defrosted food may only be re-frozen
after it has been cooked.

The lock is activated. The symbol is lit up in the
display.

 Deactivate the lock (see "Selecting settings - Ac-

tivating or deactivating the lock").

To avoid overheating, the lighting switches itself off
automatically after approx. 15 minutes if the door is
left open. If this is not the case, then there is a fault.

 Danger of electric shock.

There are live electrical components under the
lighting cover.

The LED lighting may only be repaired or replaced
by a Miele authorised service technician.

 Danger of injury from LED lighting. Light in-

tensity corresponds to laser beam class 1/1M.
The lighting covers must not be removed or dam-

aged, or be removed due to damage. This could
cause injury to your eyes.

Do not look into the LED lighting (laser beam class
1/1M) with optical instruments (e.g. magnifying
glass or similar).

Electrical connection

The appliance is supplied with a power
cable and moulded plug ready for con­nection to an AC 230 V 50 Hz supply.

The fuse rating must be at least 10 A
(13 A in the UK).

This appliance must be connected to a
suitable switched socket which is easily
accessible. The electrical connection
must comply with current local and na­tional safety regulations (BS 7671 in the
UK).

The accessibility of the plug must al­ways be ensured in order to be able to
quickly separate the appliance from the
mains.

If the mains socket is not accessible
after the appliance has been built in, a
separator for each terminal must be
present. There must be an all-pole con­tact gap of at least 3 mm in the switch
(including switch, fuses and relays ac­cording to EN60335).

The plug and mains connection cable
must not come into contact with the
back of the appliance as vibrations can
cause damage to these components.
This, in turn, could result in a short cir­cuit.

Do not connect the appliance to the
mains electricity supply by an extension
lead. Extension leads do not guarantee
the required safety of the appliance
(e.g. danger of overheating).

Do not connect the appliance to an in­verter such as those used with an
autonomous energy source e.g. solar
power. When switched on, peak loads
in the system can cause the safety
switch-off mechanism to be triggered.
This can damage the electronic unit.
The appliance must not be used with
so-called energy-saving devices
either. These reduce the amount of en­ergy supplied to the appliance, causing
it to overheat.

If the mains cable needs to be replaced
this must be done by a suitably quali­fied person.

Do not plug in other appliances behind
this appliance.

This appliance must be built in, oth­erwise it could tip up.

 Fire risk and danger of damage!

This refrigerator must not be installed
underneath a hob.

Location

This appliance should be installed in a
dry, well-ventilated room.

When deciding where to install your ap­pliance please bear in mind that it will
use more energy if installed near to a
heater, a cooker or other appliance that
gives off heat. Direct sunlight should
also be avoided.
The higher the room temperature, the
longer the compressor runs and the
higher the energy consumption is.

When installing the appliance, please
note:

– The socket must be easily accessible

in an emergency, not concealed be­hind the appliance.

– The plug and cable must not touch

the rear of the appliance as they
could be damaged by vibrations from
the appliance.

– Do not plug in other appliances be-

hind this appliance.

 In environments with high hu-

midity condensation can build up on

the external appliance panels.
Condensate can cause corrosion on

external appliance panels.
For prevention, it is advisable to in-

stall the appliance where there is suf­ficient ventilation in a dry and/or air
conditioned room.

After installation please ensure that
the appliance doors close properly,
the ventilation gaps are not covered
and that the appliance has been in­stalled in accordance with these in­stallation instructions.

The appliance is designed for use within
a certain climate range (ambient tem­peratures) and should not be used out­side this range. The climate range of the
appliance is stated on the data plate in­side the appliance.

Operating in a room which is too cold
will cause the compressor to switch off
for too long, causing the internal tem­perature in the appliance to rise with the
risk of food deteriorating and going off.

 If the ventilation gaps given are

not observed, the compressor will
run more frequently and for longer
periods.

This will result in increased energy
consumption and a higher operating
temperature for the compressor. This
may, in turn, cause damage to the
compressor.

It is essential to observe the ventila­tion gaps given.

Air at the back of the appliance gets
warm. The appliance housing unit must
therefore be constructed to allow suffi­cient space for ventilation (see "Build­ing-in dimensions"):

– The ventilation cross-sections in the

plinth, housing unit and above the
appliance must each provide an un­obstructed airflow of at least 200cm²
to ensure that air can circulate
without hindrance.

If ventilation grilles are to be inserted
into the ventilation gaps, the ventila­tion gaps must be larger than
200cm². The unobstructed airflow of
200cm² is calculated by adding up
the total area of ventilation openings
in the grille.

– Important. The appliance uses less

energy, the larger the ventilation
gaps.

The ventilation gaps must not be
covered or blocked in any way. They
should be dusted on a regular basis.

– Air intake  occurs via the plinth at

the bottom of the appliance and the
air escapes at the top  at the back
of the housing unit.

– A ventilation gap of at least 40mm

depth must be allowed for behind the
appliance for air to circulate.

The ventilation gap at the top of the ap­pliance can be constructed in different
ways:

a

directly above the appliance with a
ventilation grille (free airflow of at
least 200cm²).

b

in between the housing unit and the
ceiling

c

through a suspended ceiling.

Before installing the appliance

 Take the accessory pack which in-

cludes installation parts and other ac­cessories out of the appliance and re­move the packaging strap holding the
door in place.

 Do not remove the following from

the back of the appliance:

– The spacers (depending on model)

These ensure the gap required
between the back of the appliance
and the wall is maintained.

– The bags (depending on model) loc-

ated inside the metal grille (heat ex­changer).
These are important for the correct
functioning of the appliance. Their
contents are non-toxic and are not
dangerous.

 Remove the cable clip from the back

of the appliance.

Building-in dimensions

* The declared energy consumption was calculated in a 560mm deep niche. The
appliance is fully functional in a 550mm niche but the energy consumption will be
slightly higher.

Before installation, ensure the housing unit is the correct size. The specified vent­ilation cross-sections must be maintained in order to ensure the correct function­ing of the appliance.

Changing the door hinging

Two people are needed for changing
the door hinging.

The appliance is supplied right-hand
hinged. If left-hand hinging is required,
the hinges must be changed.

To change the door hinging, you will
need the following tools:

 Open both appliance doors.
 Remove the shelves/bottle shelf from

the appliance door.

and fit it on the opposite side.

 Pull hinge bolt in the middle of the

appliance together with its disc up­wards and off.

 Carefully lift appliance door off and

place to one side.

through 180° and screw it into place
on the opposite side.

it into place on the opposite side.

 Remove hinge bolt together with

its washer and replace these on the
opposite side.

 In the middle of the appliance, fit

hinge bolt together with its washer
through the bearing block in the ap­pliance door.

 Place door onto the hinge bolt

from above.

 Close the lower door.

in the middle of the appliance.

 Close the upper door.
 Screw upper bearing block back

on the appliance securely.

 Tighten all screws again.
 Replace covers and.

housing unit, positioned on an even
and level floor.

 Secure the housing unit against tip-

ping.

 Use a spirit level to align the housing

unit. The corners of the housing unit
must be at a 90° angle to each other,
otherwise the furniture door will not
align correctly with all 4corners of
the housing unit.

To install the appliance, you will need
the following tools:

 The required ventilation cross-sec-

tions must be ensured (see "Installa­tion - Ventilation" and "Building-in di­mensions").

Preparing the appliance

 Position the appliance in front of the

housing unit.

 Fit cover strip  into position.
 Push the appliance two-thirds of the

way into its niche. When doing this,
make sure that the mains cable does
not get trapped.

 Remove cover from the top corner

of the appliance.

 Secure part using screw firmly

into the top left-hand side of the ap­pliance.

Tip: To help you push it into position, tie
a piece of string around the plug to "in­crease" the length of the connection
cable.
Then pull the cable by the end of the
string through the housing unit. It will
then be easier to connect once the ap­pliance is in the unit.

maintained between the appliance
casing and the front edge of the
housing unit side walls, the door may
not shut properly.

This can cause ice to build up, con­densate to accumulate and lead to
faults in the appliance. These can all
lead to increased energy consump­tion.

Follow the instructions below to en­sure that a gap of 42mm is main­tained to the front edges of the hous­ing unit side walls.

 Push the appliance into the building-

in niche:

– until the upper fixing bracket

touches the front edge of the fur­niture side wall.

– until the front edge of lower left-hand

fixing bracket and the lower right­hand fixing bracket are flush with the
front edge of the base of the housing
unit.

On furniture with door fittings (e.g.
stubs, seals etc.) the dimension of

these must be taken into account
when making sure there is a gap all
round of 42 mm.

 Pull the appliance forwards by the

appropriate dimension.

 Screw lower fixing bracket with

screws loosely into the bottom of
the appliance.

Tip: Remove the door fittings. This will
ensure that the door is flush with the
surrounding kitchen unit furniture doors.

ing the adjustable feet.

 Carefully unscrew adjusting screw

in the middle bearing block until it
touches the side wall of the furniture
housing unit.

Before securing the appliance in its
niche make sure that both lower fixing
brackets are flush with the front of the
base of the housing unit.

 Push the appliance up against the

furniture unit wall and secure the ap­pliance with screws through fixing
bracket.

 Press the appliance up against the

furniture unit wall and secure fixing
bracket using screw to the base
of the unit.

Make sure that all screws have been
tightened.

For additional stability of the appliance
in the unit, push the rods supplied in
underneath the appliance between it
and the floor of the housing unit:

 Then secure handle  to one of the

rods.

 Use the handle to push the rod into

the guide as far as it will go. Remove
the handle and fit it to the other rod
and push this into its guide as far as it
will go. Important! Keep the handle
somewhere safe in case you ever
need to fit the appliance into a new
housing unit

 Close the appliance doors.
 If necessary, align the cover strip at

the top of the appliance by pushing it
parallel to the top of the furniture unit
– it should be set slightly back and
must not protrude.

 Secure the appliance by fitting

screw into bearing block.

 Finally secure the appliance at the

side by fitting screw through the
middle bearing block.

 Snap off any protruding end on the

top fixing bracket.
It is no longer required.

 Fit cover.

 Fit cover supplied.

 Push the plastic tab into the left-hand

aperture in cover and then fit the
cover in position.

 Flip down the cover on fixing

 Align the door fixing so that the fur-

niture door on the side with the
handle does not lie against the hous­ing unit wall when the door is shut.
A minimum distance of 1mm must
be maintained.

If a minimum distance of 1mm is not
maintained, the appliance door may
not shut properly.

This can cause ice to build up, con­densate to accumulate and lead to
faults in the appliance. These can all
lead to increased energy consump­tion.

 Tighten all screws again.

 Secure door fixing to the appliance

door using screws.

 Open the door fully and push fixing

guides into door fixing .

 Position the furniture door onto the

appliance door and secure fixing
guides to the furniture door using
screws.
Make sure you maintain a distance d
(= the thickness of the housing walls)
between the edge of the appliance
door and the outer edge of the fur­niture door.
