Please supervise children in the vicinity of the appliance and do not let them play with it.
Danger of suffocation! Children may be able to wrap themselves in packing material (e.g. foil) or pull it over their head with the risk of suffocation. Keep packaging material away from children.
6
Warning and Safety instructions
The refrigerant circuit has been checked for leaks. This appliance complies with all current local and national safety requirements.
This appliance contains the coolant Isobutane (R600a), a natural gas which is environmentally friendly. Although it is flammable, it does not damage the ozone layer and has a lower greenhouse effect than some other refrigerants.
The use of this coolant has, however, led to a slight increase in the noise level of the appliance. In addition to the noise of the compressor, you might be able to hear the coolant flowing around the system. This is unavoidable and does not have any adverse effect on the performance of the appliance.
Care must be taken during the transportation and setting up of the appliance that no parts of the cooling system are damaged. Leaking refrigerant can damage the eyes.
In the event of any damage:
–avoid any flames or anything which creates a spark,
–disconnect the appliance from the mains electricity supply,
–ventilate the room where the appliance is located for several minutes, and
–call Miele.
The more coolant there is in a refrigeration appliance, the larger the room should be in which it is installed. In the event of a leakage, if the appliance is in a small room, there is a danger of combustible gases building up. For every 11 g of coolant at least 1 m3 of room space is required. The amount of coolant in the appliance is stated on a data plate inside the appliance.
To avoid the risk of damage to the appliance, make sure that the connection data (fuse rating, frequency and voltage) on the data plate corresponds to the household supply. Check that this is the case before connecting the appliance.
Consult a qualified electrician if in any doubt.
7
Warning and Safety instructions
The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed when correctly earthed. It is essential that this standard safety requirement is met. If in any doubt please have the electrical installation tested by a qualified electrician.
Reliable and safe operation of this appliance can only be assured if it has been connected to the mains electricity supply.
If the connection cable is faulty, it must only be replaced by a Miele approved service technicianin order to avoid a hazard.
Do not connect the appliance to the mains electricity supply by a multi-socket unit or an extension lead. These do not guarantee the required safety of the appliance (e.g. danger of overheating).
If moisture gets into electrical components or into the mains connection cable, it could cause a short circuit. Therefore, do not operate this refrigeration appliance in areas which are exposed to moisture (e.g in a garage or laundry).
This appliance must not be installed and operated in mobile installations (e.g. on a ship).
Do not use a damaged appliance. It could be dangerous. Check the appliance for visible signs of damage.
The appliance must be disconnected from the power supply during installation, maintenance and repair work, and during installation work on the mains water connection. It is only completely isolated from the power supply when:
–the mains circuit breaker is switched off, or
–the screw-out fuse is removed (in countries where this is applicable), or
–the mains cable has been unplugged. Pull on the plug and not the cable when disconnecting it from the power supply.
8
Warning and Safety instructions
Unauthorised installation, maintenance and repairs, or a faulty mains water connection can result in considerable danger for the user.
Installation, maintenance and repairs, installation work on the mains water connection, and all repairs on the ice/water outlet must only be carried out by a Miele authorised technician.
The ice cube maker must only be connected to a cold water supply.
The manufacturer's warranty will be invalidated if the appliance is not repaired by a Miele approved service technician.
Faulty components must only be replaced by genuine Miele spare parts. The manufacturer can only guarantee the safety of the appliance when Miele replacement parts are used.
Miele cannot be held liable for damage caused by a faulty water connection.
In areas which may be subject to infestation by cockroaches or other vermin, pay particular attention to keeping the appliance and its surroundings clean at all times. Any damage caused by cockroaches or other vermin will not be covered by the warranty.
The appliance is designed for use within a certain climate range (ambient temperatures), and should not be used outside this range. The climate range for your appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance. Installing it in a room with too low an ambient temperature, e.g. a garage, will lead to the appliance switching off for longer periods, with the result that it cannot maintain the required temperature.
To ensure proper air flow in and out of the appliance, the ventilation gaps in the appliance and built-in structure must not be covered or blocked in any way. This would also increase the energy consumption and could cause damage to the appliance.
9
Warning and Safety instructions
If storing food which contains a lot of fat or oil in the appliance, make sure that it does not come into contact with plastic components as this could cause stress cracks or break the plastic.
Do not store explosive materials in the appliance or any products containing propellants (e.g. spray cans). Flammable gas mixtures can be ignited by electrical components.
Danger of fire and explosion!
Do not operate any electrical equipment (e.g. an electric ice cream maker) inside the appliance.
Danger of sparking and explosion!
Do not store cans or bottles containing carbonated drinks or liquids which could freeze in the freezer. The cans or bottles could explode. Danger of injury and damage to the appliance.
When cooling drinks quickly in the freezer, make sure bottles are not left in for more than one hour; otherwise they could burst, causing injury or damage.
Never handle frozen food or the metal parts of the appliance with wet hands. Your hands may freeze to the frozen food or to the metal. Danger of frost burn!
Do not take ice cubes out with your bare hands and never place ice cubes or ice lollies in your mouth straight from the freezer. The very low temperature of the frozen ice or lollies can cause frost burn to the lips and tongue. Danger of injury!
Do not refreeze thawed or partially thawed food. Defrosted food should be used up as quickly as possible, as food soon loses its nutritional value and goes off. Defrosted food may only be re-frozen after it has been cooked.
10
Warning and Safety instructions
Food stored for too long may present a risk of food poisoning. Storage times will depend on several factors, including the freshness and quality of the food, as well as the temperature at which it is stored. Follow the instructions given on the food manufacturer's packaging regarding storage conditions and use-by dates.
Use only genuine original Miele spare parts. If spare parts or accessories from other manufacturers are used, the warranty will be invalidated, and Miele cannot accept liability.
The coated stainless steel surface can be damaged by adhesives and will lose its dirt-repelling properties. Do not adhere sticky notes, transparent tape, masking tape or other adhesives onto the stainless steel surface.
The surface is susceptible to scratching. Even magnets can cause scratches.
Do not use any oils or grease on the door seals, as these will cause the seals to deteriorate and become porous with time.
Do not use a steam cleaning appliance to clean this appliance. Steam could reach the electrical components and cause a short circuit.
Sharp edged or pointed objects will damage the evaporator, causing irreversible damage to the appliance. Do not use sharp edged or pointed objects to
–remove frost and ice, or accelerate the defrosting process,
–separate frozen foods and remove ice trays.
Never place electric heaters or candles in the appliance to defrost it. These can damage the plastic parts.
11
Warning and Safety instructions
Do not use defrosting sprays or de-icers, as they might contain substances which could damage the plastic parts or which could cause a build-up of gases and pose a danger to health.
To avoid damage to the appliance, always transport it upright and in its packaging.
Danger of injury and damage. The appliance is very heavy and must be transported by two people.
Before disposing of an old appliance, first make the door latch or lock unusable.
This way you will prevent children from accidentally locking themselves in and endangering their lives.
Splashes of coolant can damage the eyes. Be careful not to damage any part of the pipework whilst awaiting disposal, e.g. by
–puncturing the refrigerant channels in the condenser,
–bending any pipework, or
–scratching the surface coating.
This information is only relevant for recycling. In normal operation there is no risk.
The oil in the compressor can be fatal if swallowed or if it
penetrates the airways.
12
Disposal of the packing
material
The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal, and can normally be recycled.
Recycling the packaging reduces the use of raw materials in the manufacturing process and also reduces the amount of waste in landfill sites. Ensure that any plastic wrappings, bags etc. are disposed of safely and kept out of the reach of babies and young children. Danger of suffocation!
Disposing of your old
appliance
Electrical and electronic appliances often contain valuable materials. They also contain specific materials, compounds and components, which were essential for their correct function and safety. These could be hazardous to human health and to the environment if disposed of with your domestic waste or if handled incorrectly. Please do not, therefore, dispose of your old appliance with your household waste.
Please dispose of it at your local community waste collection / recycling centre for electrical and electronic appliances, or contact Miele. You are also responsible for deleting any personal data that may be stored on the appliance being disposed of.
Take care not to damage the pipework at the back of the appliance before or during transportation to an authorised collection depot.
In this way, refrigerant in the pipework and oil in the compressor will be contained, and will not leak out into the environment.
Please ensure that your old appliance presents no danger to children while being stored awaiting disposal. See "Warning and Safety instructions" for more information.

Clean the inside of the appliance and the accessories.
20
A light touch of the finger on the sensors is all that is required to operate this appliance.
The PerfectFresh zone and the freezer section are switched on together with the On/Off sensor.
Touch the On/Off sensor until the temperature display lights up.
If the temperature in the appliance is not within the normal temperature display range, dashes will flash in the display.
The PerfectFresh and the freezer symbols as well as the alarm off sensor will flash until the temperatures are sufficiently low.
As soon as the temperatures are within the display range, the temperature display will show the current temperature in the appliance.
The appliance will start to cool and the interior lighting will come on when the PerfectFresh zone door is opened.
To enable the temperature to get sufficiently cold inside the appliance, allow the appliance to run for approx. 2 hours before placing food in it.
Do not place food in the freezer section until the temperature is at least -18 °C.
Touch this sensor to switch between the PerfectFresh zone and the freezer section.
If you want to select the freezer section (for example to check the temperature),
Touch the sensor for switching between the PerfectFresh zone and the freezer section so that the freezer section lights up yellow.
If the freezer section is selected, the
symbol lights up and you can adjust the temperature in the freezer section and switch on SuperFrost.
If the PerfectFresh zone is selected, the
symbol lights up and you can
adjust the temperature in the refrigerator section and switch on SuperCool.
Touch the On/Off sensor until all of the indicators go out. (If this does not work, the safety lock is activated.)
If the PerfectFresh zone was selected, the PerfectFresh zone and the freezer section will switch off one after the other. The interior lighting goes out and the cooling is switched off.
21
Switching on and off
The PerfectFresh zone can be switched off without having to switch off the freezer section. This is useful, e.g. while on holiday.
Select the PerfectFresh zone .
The PerfectFresh symbol will light up yellow.
Touch the On/Off sensor until the PerfectFresh symbol goes out.
The interior lighting will not come on when you open the door and the PerfectFresh zone is switched off. The freezer section remains switched on and the Freezer symbol is lit up.
Select the PerfectFresh zone so that the PerfectFresh symbol lights up yellow, then touch the On/Off sensor
until the temperature display lights up, or
Switch the appliance off and then on again.
The appliance will start to cool and the interior lighting will come on when the PerfectFresh zone door is opened.
If, during a long absence, the appliance is switched off but not cleaned and the door(s) left shut, there is a danger of mould building up inside the appliance.
It is essential to clean the appliance.
If the appliance is not going to be used for a longer period of time, e.g. whilst on holiday:
switch the appliance off,
switch off at the wall and withdraw the plug from the socket, or disconnect the mains circuit breaker or remove the screw-out fuse in countries where this is applicable,
empty the ice-cube drawer
turn off the mains water tap
clean the appliance, and
leave the appliance doors slightly ajar to avoid the build-up of odours.
It is also advisable to carry out the last two instructions if you are switching the refrigerator section off for a longer period of time.
22
It is very important to set the correct temperature for storing food in the appliance. Micro-organisms will cause food which is not stored at the correct temperature to deteriorate rapidly. Temperature influences the growth rate of these micro-organisms. Reducing the temperature reduces their growth rate.
The temperature in the appliance will rise:
–the more often the door is opened and the longer it is kept open,
–the more food is stored in the refrigerator,
–the warmer the food is which is being put into it,
–the higher the ambient temperature surrounding the appliance. The appliance is designed for use within specific ambient temperatures (climate range). Do not use in ambient temperatures for which it is not designed.
The temperature in the PerfectFresh zone is controlled automatically and maintained at 0 to 3 °C.
The fan switches on automatically when the cooling system for the PerfectFresh zone switches on. It distributes the temperature in the appliance to all areas more evenly so that all the food will be chilled to about the same degree.
The temperature in the PerfectFresh zone can be raised or lowered, e.g. if you want to store items like fish.
The settings to have specific
temperature ranges allocated to them, they do not represent temperatures themselves.
The default setting for the temperature in the PerfectFresh zone is b5. Under certain circumstances, a setting from b1 to b4 can cause negative temperatures to be reached. Food could freeze.
Select the PerfectFresh zone .
The PerfectFresh symbol will light
up yellow.
You can now adjust the temperature in the PerfectFresh zone by touching the sensor. You can select settings from to :
–: lowest temperature
–: highest temperature
By touching the sensor
–the temperature will get colder
–the temperature will get warmer.
The temperature being set will flash in the display.
The following information appears in the display when the sensors are touched:
–When first tapped: The last preset temperature flashes.
23
The correct temperature
–With each subsequent touch of the sensor the temperature is adjusted in increments.
–Leaving the finger on the sensor changes the temperature continuously.
Approximately 5 seconds after the last time a sensor has been touched, the display automatically reverts to showing the current temperature inside the PerfectFresh zone.
To freeze fresh food and to store frozen food for a long time, a temperature of
-18 °C is required. At this temperature the growth of micro-organisms is generally halted. As soon as the temperature rises above -10 °C, the micro-organisms become active in the food again so that it cannot be kept as long. For this reason, partially defrosted or fully defrosted food must not be refrozen. Food may be refrozen once it has been cooked, as the high temperatures achieved when cooking destroy most micro-organisms.
Select the freezer section .
The Freezer symbol will light up yellow.
You can now adjust the temperature in the freezer section by touching the
sensor.
By touching the sensor
–the temperature will get colder
–the temperature will get warmer.
The temperature being set will flash in the display.
The following information appears in the display when the sensors are touched:
–When first tapped: The last preset temperature flashes.
–With each subsequent touch of the sensor the temperature is adjusted in 1 °C steps.

The correct temperature
–Leaving the finger on the sensor changes the temperature continuously. Once the highest or lowest temperature value has been reached the sensor or , respectively, will go out.
Approximately 5 seconds after the last time a sensor has been touched, the display automatically reverts to showing the actual mean temperature inside the freezer section.
When you have adjusted the temperature, wait for approx. 6 hours if the appliance is not very full and for approx. 24 hours if the appliance is full before checking the temperature display. It will take this long for the appliance to give an accurate reading. If, after this time, the temperature is still too high or too low, adjust it again.
The temperature in the freezer section can be set from -14 °C to -28 °C.
The ambient temperature in the room and the installation location can affect the time it takes for the appliance to reach the lowest temperature.
If the ambient temperature is too high, the appliance may not reach the lowest temperature.
During normal operation the temperature displays on the control panel show the temperature in the middle of the PerfectFresh zone and the temperature in the warmest part of the freezer section.

This helps food to freeze quickly and retain its nutrients, vitamins, flavours and appearance.
Exceptions:
–When placing food in the freezer that is already frozen.
–When freezing less than 2 kg of fresh food in any one day.
The SuperFreeze function should be switched on 6 hours before placing food in the freezer section. When freezing the maximum amount of food
SuperFreeze should be switched on 24 hours beforehand.
Select the freezer section .
The Freezer symbol will light up yellow.
Touch the SuperFreeze sensor so that it is highlighted in yellow.
The appliance will work at full power to lower the temperature in the freezer section.
The SuperFreeze function switches off automatically after approx. 30 -
65 hours. The quantity of fresh food placed in the freezer will determine the duration before SuperFreeze switches off. The SuperFreeze symbol will go out and the appliance will run at normal power again.

The appliance has been fitted with a warning system which ensures that the temperature in the freezer section cannot rise unnoticed and to avoid energy being wasted if a door is left open.
An alarm will sound if the temperature in the freezer section becomes too warm. The alarm off sensor will flash red and the Freezer symbol will flash.
The audio and visual signals are activated, for example:
–when the appliance is switched on if the temperature in a temperature zone differs greatly from the set temperature.
–if a lot of warm room air enters the freezer when food is being loaded, rearranged or taken out.
–when freezing large amounts of food at once.
–when you freeze fresh food that is still warm.
–in the event of a power cut.
–if the appliance has a fault.
The alarm will stop and the indicators will go out as soon as the temperature has dropped down to the correct level again.
If the temperature in the freezer remains above -18 °C for a long time, check that the frozen food has not started to defrost.
If it has, check that the food is safe to use and if it is, use it as soon as possible or cook it before freezing it again.
If the noise of the alarm bothers you, you can switch it off early if you wish.
Touch the alarm off sensor .
The alarm will stop.
The alarm off sensor and the Freezer symbol on the control panel will continue to flash until the temperature is at the correct level.
