signal, which is the frequency of the external trigger signal. The exposure time is the
duration of the low cycle of the Line/Integrate signal. The exposure time can be altered
by modifying the low period of the EXPOSURE1 signal provided by the Pulsar; this is
accomplished through the use of Intellicam
• Matrox Pulsar receiving TTL external trigger
• Matrox Pulsar sending RS-422 EXPOSURE1 (Line/Integrate) and RS-422 pixel clock
(Data rate in @ 20MHz) signals to camera; the EXPOSURE1 signal initiates line
readout and controls exposure time
• camera returning RS-422 pixel clock (Data rate out) and RS-422 hsync (Line sync out)
signals to Matrox Pulsar
• DCF used: CA1351AL.DCF

PLS-TTL-CABLE required for digital syncs and control signals in RS-422 format
• the connections between the DB-15 connector on the rear panel of the camera and the
DB-37 connector of the PLS-TTL-CABLE are as follows:

Special
Considerations
Variable line scan rate with external exposure control
• in addition to the DCFs, PSG FPGA version 3.01 or newer is required; if this version is
not on your release of the MIL driver for Pulsar, the newest version can be found on the
BBS or at the FTP site
• once it has received the external signal to trigger, the Pulsar sends the RS-422
EXPOSURE1 (Line/Integrate) signal to the camera. The camera awaits the falling edge
of the signal and exposes for as long as the signal is low. The rising edge of the signal
initiates line readout; the readout of a line of data is delayed by 1 or 2 clock cycles from
the arrival of the rising edge of the EXPOSURE1 signal
• the line scan rate is determined by the frequency of the Line/Integrate (EXPOSURE1)
signal, which is the frequency of the external trigger signal. The time between external
trigger signals must be greater than the sum of the exposure time and the line transfer
time (51.2µs)
• The exposure time is the duration of the low cycle of the Line/Integrate signal; the
exposure time can be altered by modifying the low period of the EXPOSURE1 signal
provided by the Pulsar. The width of the low portion of this signal can be adjusted
though the use of Intellicam: load CA1351AL.DCF and go into Camera Spec. Editor.
Move the cursor down to EXPOSURE such that the words “generated on trigger” are
selected and press enter; an interface entitled “Exposure signal information” will open.
The exposure time can be modified by changing the time specified for T pulse width.
Under the heading of sec., select the exposure time in seconds; the value of T pulse
width must be greater than 2 clock cycles, which corresponds to 0.1µs for a pixel clock
of 20MHz. To complete this operation by accepting and computing the registers etc.,
follow the instructions in the Intellicam User Guide. The default setting of the exposure
time is 1.5ms, thus the external trigger rate for the current settings of the DCF must not
exceed 645Hz
