Magellan RoadMate Application

The Magellan® RoadMate® application is a vehicle navigation product that utilizes GPS signals from satellites to calculate your precise location and compute navigational information that can be used to guide you to your destination. Knowing its position and movement, it can then overlay this information on detailed maps to provide a visual representation of your location.
With the Magellan RoadMate application you can:
Save searches and addresses under the OneTouch™ menu for fast, convenient access to favorite destinations.
Store your home address and quickly get routing details to your home.
Route to an address that you enter using the QuickSpell® for easy, errorless address entry.
Route to any point of interest (POI) that has been preloaded into your Magellan RoadMate application.
Create a route with multiple destinations. Handy for business people who need routing information to many destinations.
View POIs that are near exits ahead of you on the highway. The Highway Exit POIs function provides you with a list of gas stations, restaurants, hotels and auto repair shops located nearby exits you are approaching while travelling on the interstate.
Customize your Magellan RoadMate application to meet your needs using the Settings menu.
The user interface for the Magellan RoadMate application is easy and simple to follow once you understand the basics. You may never need to refer to this manual, but if you do, we have tried to present it in a form that makes it easy for you to access the function you are trying to use and follow the steps provided.
You should note that while indoors you may not get strong enough satellite signals to compute your location, so your location information may not be updated. The application may not be able to always compute a fix indoors due to the iPhone or Magellan Premium Car Kit not being able to receive GPS signals from the satellites. (Reminder: the Magellan Premium Car Kit must have power applied to receive GPS information when using an iPod touch.) This is especially important to note if you are in a garage or other overhanging structure. If you find you are not getting strong enough satellite signals while in a garage or other structure, move to a location where there is a clear view of the sky and you should immediately see an improvement in signal strength.

Fundamentals

Powering on the Magellan RoadMate application

Select the Magellan RoadMate application from the iPhone/iPod touch main screen. After the application initializes the Map screen is displayed. The application begins looking for GPS signals from
your iPhone or iPod touch (if used with the Magellan Premium Car Kit and the cradle is being powered on). Once the application has enough GPS information, it will display the map with your current position indicated by the blue-triangle cursor.
Tips for getting GPS signals. If you are not getting a position fix in a few minutes you may try these few tips to help acquire the GPS signals.
Move outside and away from buildings that could be blocking the GPS signal.
Trees, especially after a rainy day, can decrease GPS signal strength causing the time to first fix to increase. Move out from under any trees and give the device a clear view of the sky.
If you are using an iPod touch with the Magellan Premium Car Kit, try reseating the iPod in the cradle and checking the power connection. (Note that some vehicle power receptacles are powered only when the vehicle ignition is on.)

The Map Screen

The Map screen allows you to view your current position (indicated by the blue triangle) and the surrounding area. You can change how much of the map is shown by using the zoom in and zoom out controls.
The Map screen also displays an information field in the lower left corner. When you are not routing, the information field displays the current time of day. However, when you have an active route you can set the information field to display distance to destination, time remaining until you arrive at your destination, time of day that you will arrive at your destination, current elevation, current time of day, current speed, and direction of travel.
You can access the Main menu or the OneTouch menu by the buttons located at the bottom of the screen.
Detailed information about the Map screen can be found in the following chapter of this user manual.
