• If the 1200 DPS does not read zero on the display,
DO NOT DISPENSE POWDER. The scale must
be zeroed before use. If powder is dispensed with a
scale that does not read zero, the charge will not be
correct and could be dangerous.
• Be careful not be get powder between the platform and
the scale body. This can affect scale readings. If powde
does drop into this area, carefully remove it with the
supplied brush. Do not attempt to remove the platform.
• Slide switch on underside of unit is to set the (Hz). This
is factory preset for domestic models and should not
need to be changed. Should you have a problem with
your scale, make sure the switch is set to match the input
voltage on the power adapter. Domestic 115V is 60 Hz
and 220V is 50Hz.

Congratulations on your purchase of the Lyman 1200 DPS (Digital
Powder System). This is a precision piece of equipment and should
be handled with care. Before using the 1200 DPS Powder
Dispenser, please read these instructions fully and become familiar
with the key pads and other operating features listed in the
diagrams. If you have read the instructions and you still do not
understand some of the operations, call us at 1-800-22-LYMAN
except AK, HI, CT and foreign, who may call 860-632-2020. This
operation manual should be kept with the 1200 DPS at all times for
easy reference.
Introduction
Your New 1200 DPS (digital powder system) is the state of the art
in reloading technology. It is the fastest powder dispenser
available and contains a programmable memory to store and recall
all of your favorite loads quickly and easily.
A. Set-Up
1. Select a location for the 1200 DPS that is level and stable.
It is recommended that the 1200 DPS be located away from
a loading bench equipped with a reloading press. Most
benches are not heavy enough to prevent vibrations being
transferred to the scale. The scale should also be away from
any source of air currents. The 1200 DPS is sensitive
enough to have readings affected by any of these
condit ions.
2. Plug the power adapter into a wall outlet and connect it to
the dispenser. Install the powder reservoir tube by pressing
it into the top of the unit above the feed tube.
3. Remove end cap from powder feed tube.
B. Warm-Up and ON/OFF
1. Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the 1200 DPS.
4
2. The 1200 DPS is equipped with an automatic 30-minute
warm-up feature. This feature allows the precise electronics
time to stabilize. The LCD display will alternate between
warm-up and a count down clock. In the warm-up mode,
the scale, powder dispenser and calibration features will be
blocked, however, the user can still enter settings into the
memory as well as recall and edit existing memory. We
recommend that the scale be allowed to fully warm-up
before use to ensure the highest accuracy level. If this is not
possible, the warm-up mode can be cancelled by pressing
the CANCEL button. This will allow full access to all of
the 1200 DPS functions, however, accuracy could be
slightly reduced until full warm-up is reached.
3. To turn off the 1200 DPS, press and hold the ON/OFF
button. The 1200 DPS will return to the warm-up mode if
the power is shutoff for any length of time. Always turn off
the 1200 DPS using the ON/OFF button first, and then
unplug the power transformer.
C. Calibration
1. After warm-up (or if cancel is pressed to exit warm-up) the
unit will be in Scale and Dispense mode. We recommend
that the scale be calibrated before use. This should be done
without the powder pan on the platform.
2. Press the CAL/ZERO button to reset the scale to zero.
3. Press and hold the CAL/ZERO button. The LCD will
display “Cal 20g”.
4. Place the 20 gram weight onto the platform and press the
CAL/ZERO button again. (Press and Release – Do Not
Hold)
5. The LCD will display 0.0 Remove the 20 gram weight. The
LCD will display approximately -308.6.
6. Press CAL/ZERO one more time to reset zero.
5
D. Scale and Dispense Mode
1. The scale and dispenser are now active. Place the powder
pan onto the platform and press the CAL/ZERO button to
zero the scale.
2. Place the desired smokeless powder (black powder or Pyrodex shouldNEVER be used) into the powder
reservoir.
3. The scale will read in grains (default) unless changed. To
select the weighing unit desired, press the UNIT button to
select the appropriate grains, grams or ounces.
4. Key in the desired charge weight using the keypad. If you
make a mistake press the CANCEL button to clear the
complete charge weight or press BACKSPACE to clear
the last digit. While the desired charge weight is displayed,
press the ENTER button to dispense powder. The
dispenser will stop automatically when the selected charge
weight is reached. We recommend that the first several
charges be placed back into the reservoir. This allows the
1200 DPS to fully stabilize and fill the charge tube with
powder. After a charge is dispensed, the LCD will display
“CT=001” indicating the first charge for 2 seconds. This is
a count of the number of charges that have been dispensed.
5. Press the ENTER button again to dispense another charge
at the selected weight in memory.
6. To pause the dispenser while a charge is being dropped,
press the ENTER button. Press the ENTER button again
to resume charging.
7. The dispenser will continue to drop the selected weight
until it is changed. To change the selected weight, key in a
new weight on the keypad and press the ENTER button.
The dispenser will drop the new selected charge weight.
D-2 Manual - Trickle Mode
To manually dispense a charge, press and hold the FAST
button. The dispenser will run the feed tube at high speed until
the button is released. Press and hold the TRICKLE button to
6
run the dispenser at low speed. The feed tube will turn slowly
until the button is released.
D-3 Auto - Trickle Mode
You can speed up the dispensing process by adding powder to
the powder pan and then bring it up to the selected weight by
pressing the ENTER button. By utilizing a powder measure to
add almost all the powder to the powder pan and using the
dispenser to automatically finish trickling to the exact weight,
the dispensing time will decrease considerably.

Cleaning The 1200 DPS
Caution: Do not turn unit upside down and shake as
this could harm the load cell.
The cleaning procedure listed below may seem difficult,
but after you become familiar with the dispenser it is
relatively easy. The 1200 DPS was designed to be
sufficiently disassembled for thorough cleaning
The 1200 DPS must be cleaned after use or when changing
the type of powder. It is Strongly recommended that
powder NOT be left in the powder dispenser when finished
loading or when putting it away as you may forget what
10
kind of powder was used last. This is extremely dangerous. To begin cleaning the dispenser, lower the
powder cleaning chute on the rear panel behind the powder
reservoir. Be certain that you have a container under the
chute to catch all the powder from the reservoir and powder
box. Lift the powder shut-off door to allow the powder to
flow out. The cleaning brush can be used to remove any
remaining powder. When empty, remove the reservoir tube
and reservoir base by sliding the latch on top of the
Dispenser to the left. Then lift the reservoir base up and
out. Place the rubber cap on the end of powder tube to
prevent powder spillage. Powder feed tube can be easily
removed by inserting J shaped rod in small hole in the
motor coupling as shown in Figure A. Then unscrew
powder-dispensing tube by turning in counter clockwise
direction. Be careful to catch any remaining powder that
may still be in the tube. Now with the powder chute
closed, press in the powder box from the back and release
it. The box will pop out slightly for easy removal and
cleaning. To reassemble the dispenser, push the powder
box back in until it clicks in, slide the powder tube back
through the bushings in the powder box and screw it to the
motor shaft until finger tight. Place looped end of J shaped
rod under motor coupling to assist in aligning the powder
feed tube to the coupling threads. See Figure B. Snap the
reservoir base back inside the powder box and lock in with
the sliding latch. Reinstall the reservoir tube.

Suggestions/Tips
1. If exposed to a sudden change in temperature, allow the
1200 DPS 30 minutes to stabilize to the new location
before use.
2. The hinged dust cover can be tilted back for ease of use. If
lowered into place during use, however, it will prevent any
air drafts from affecting the accuracy of the scale. The dust
cover can also be slid off the hinges and removed if needed.
We recommend storing the 1200 DPS with the dust cover
on and covering the platform as added protection to prevent
anything from hitting the platform and damaging the load
cell.
3. The 1200 DPS has a drift warning. If anything causes the
readings to drift over 0.3 grains, the scale will beep. The
scale should be re-zeroed by pressing the CAL/ZERO
button.
