Read all Instructions before Installing and operating this appliance

• The installation instructions in this guide are intended for qualified installers, service technicians or persons with similar qualified background.

• Installation and electrical wiring must be done by a qualified professional and in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including for fire-rated construction.

• The range hood may have very sharp edges; please wear protective gloves if it is necessary to remove any parts for installing, cleaning or servicing.

• Activating any switch ON before completing installation may cause ignition or an explosion.

• Due to the size and weight of this range hood, it is recommended that two people handle the installation.

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury:

• This range hood is for general ventilating use only. DO NOT use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials or vapors.

• Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power to OFF at the electric panel and lock it to prevent power from being switched ON accidentally.

• Clean grease-laden surfaces frequently; to reduce the risk of fire and to disperse air properly, make sure to vent air to the outside. DO NOT vent exhaust into spaces between walls or crawl spaces, or into ceiling, attic or garage.

• ALWAYS vent ducted fans to the outside.

• Use only metal ductwork. ALWAYS ground the unit.

• To prevent back drafting, ensure there is sufficient air for proper combustion and exhausting of gases

through the duct.

• When cutting or drilling into a wall or ceiling, take care not to damage electrical wiring or other hidden utilities.

• Ensure that all electrical wiring is properly installed, insulated and grounded.

• Clean old duct work or replace it if necessary to avoid the possibility of a fire due to old accumulations of

grease.

• Check all joints on duct work to ensure proper connections. Tape all joints properly.

• Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer. If you have questions, contact LUX.

To reduce the risk of a stove-top grease fire:

• Keep fan, filers, exhaust duct, grease container and grease-laden surfaces clean; grease should not be allowed to accumulate anywhere in the range hood.

• Always turn range hood ON when cooking, especially when cooking at high heat or with an open flame.

• Use the highest heat settings only when necessary.

• Never leave the cooking surface unattended at a high setting; boiling liquids cause smoke and grease may

ignite; heat cooking oils slowly on low or medium settings.

To reduce the risk of injury to persons in the event of a gas leak:

• Extinguish any open flame.

• DO NOT turn on the range hood fan or any type of ventilator.

• DO NOT turn on the lights or any type of appliance.

• Open all doors and windows to disperse the gas; if you still smell gas, call the gas company and fire

department, or dial your local emergency service immediately.

Venting Requirements

• Vent system must terminate to the outside (roof or side wall).

• DO NOT terminate the duct system in an attic or other enclosed area.

• DO NOT use 4” (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall caps.

• Use metal/aluminum ducts only; rigid metal/

aluminum ducts are recommended.

• DO NOT use plastic ducts.

• Always keep the ducts clean to ensure proper

airflow.

• Calculate the following figures before installation:

1. Distance from the floor to the ceiling.

2. Distance between the floor and the countertop/stove (standard is 36”).

3. Distance between the countertop/stove and the range hood (30’’ to 33’’ is recommended).

4. Height of hood and duct cover.

For the most efficient & quiet operation:

• A distance of 30” to 33” is recommended between stove top and the bottom of range hood.*

• It is recommended that the range hood be vented vertically through the roof through 6” (15.2cm)

round metal/aluminum vent ducts.

• The size of the ducts should be uniform.

• Use NO MORE THAN three 90° elbows.

• Make sure there is a minimum of 24” (61cm) of

straight vent between the elbows if more than one elbow is used.

• DO NOT install two elbows together.

• The length of the vent system and the number of

elbows should be kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance.

• The vent system must have a damper; if the roof or wall cap has a damper, DO NOT use a damper (if supplied) on top of the range hood.

• Use silver tape or duct tape to seal all joints in the vent system.

• Use caulking to seal exterior the wall or roof opening around the cap.

* Due to different ceiling height configurations, recommended height may not be applicable.

• A 6” round duct (standard for this range hood) or 3-1/4” x 10” rectangular duct (purchased separately) must be used to maintain maximum airflow efficiency.

• A flexible 6” round duct is provided for installation in decorative chimneys. Always use rigid metal/aluminum ducts, if available, to maximize airflow when connected to provided duct.

• If turns or transitions are required, keep them as far away as possible from either end of the duct work. If multiple turns or transitions are required, keep them spaced sufficiently far apart so as not to impede the airflow.

• Clearance between stove top and hood bottom should be no less than 30” and no more than 33”.*

• It is important to install the range hood at the proper height. Range hoods mounted too low could sustain

heat damage and become a fire hazard while hoods mounted too high will be hard to reach and will not perform optimally.

• If possible, also refer to the stove manufacturer’s height clearance requirements and recommended hood mounting height above the range.

* Due to different ceiling height configurations, recommended height may not be applicable.

• Please follow your area’s effective building and gas codes as well as your municipal regulations.

Minimum Duct Size:

• Round, 6” minimum

• Rectangular, 3-1/4” x 10” minimum (requires a 6” to 3-1/4” x 10” adaptor, not supplied)

Venting Methods

• This range hood is factory set for venting through the roof or wall.

• Vent work can terminate either through the roof or wall. Venting through a wall requires a 90° elbow.

IMPORTANT:

• NEVER exhaust air or terminate duct work into spaces between walls, crawl spaces, ceiling, attic or garage. All exhaust must be ducted to the outside.

• Use metal/aluminum duct work only.

• Fasten all connections with sheet metal screws, and tape all joints with certified silver or duct tape.

• Use caulking to seal exterior wall or roof opening around the cap.

Ductless Conversion

• Ductless conversion is intended for applications where it is not possible to install exhaust duct work to the outside. When converted, the hood functions as a purifying hood rather than an exhaust hood. Exhaust fumes from cooking are drawn and filtered by a set of charcoal filters. The air is then purified and re-circulated back into the home through the slots located near the top of the upper decorative chimney.

• We recommend to ALWAYS exhaust air outside of the home by employing existing ducts or installing new

duct work, if possible. Only when the exhaust option is not possible should you opt to convert the hood into a purifying unit.

• When converted to a purifying unit, a set of charcoal filters is required in addition to the standard aluminum filter set (these are available from LUX). The standard aluminum filters are intended to capture residue from cooking, while the optional charcoal filters help to purify fumes exhausted from cooking.

Electrical Requirements

IMPORTANT: Observe all effective governing codes and ordinances. It is the customer’s responsibility to:

A) Contact a qualified electrician and have an electrical socket installed in the wall where the range hood will be installed, in the area that will be hidden by the decorative chimneys. B) Ensure that the electrical installation is adequate and in conformance with all local codes and ordinances.

• If codes permit it and a separate ground wire is used, it is recommended that a qualified electrician determine that the ground path is adequate.

• A 120-volt, 60 Hz, AC-only fused electrical supply is required on a separate 15-amp circuit.

• Do not ground to a gas pipe.

• Do not have a fuse in the neutral or ground circuit.

• RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. This range hood must be properly grounded to prevent electrical shock. Check

with a qualified electrician if you are unsure whether the range hood is properly grounded.

• The range hood should be connected directly to an electrical socket. Do not use an extension cord or an adapter plug with this appliance.

• Always use the plug provided. If this is not possible, connect three wires according to color (black to hot, white to neutral and green to ground) to house wires and cap with wire connectors.

Preparation

At least two people are required to move and

install this range hood. Back or other

injuries could occur if it this warning is not followed.

Advanced Preparations:

1. Read the entire installation and user’s guide thoroughly in order to fully understand the instructions and warnings before beginning installation.

2. Familiarize yourself with the controls on the range hood by reading the Range Hood Operation section on page 14.

3. Place the range hood on a flat, stable surface; connect it to a standard outlet (please refer to the product label for the suitable voltage of this unit), verify that no debris has entered the vent opening, and turn on the range hood. Verify all controls by referring to the Range Hood Operation section on page 14.

4. Place all supplied parts and required hardware on a flat, stable surface and verify them against the list of parts on page 5.

5. Carefully remove the white plastic protective coating from the decorative chimneys and range hood.

Preparations: NOTE: To avoid damage to your range hood, do not allow any debris to enter the vent opening.

1. Determine and mark the center line on the wall where the range hood will be installed. Make sure there is proper clearance within the ceiling or wall for the exhaust vent.

2. Due to the weight and size of this unit, please make sure that the support system or framework being used is stable and properly secured to the wall.

3. Put a thick, protective covering over the counter top, cooktop or stove to protect it from damage or dirt. Remove any hazardous objects from the area.

4. Mark the locations of the holes for the support mounting bracket on the wall and of the vent cut-out (if used) on the ceiling/wall depending on your exhaust configuration; use a drill and a saber saw or keyhole saw to cut-out the opening for the vent (see Venting requirements and Electrical requirements, pages 6 and 9).

5. If venting to the outside, install vent system (see Venting Methods, page 8). Use caulking to seal exterior wall or roof openings.

6. Set aside the aluminum filters until the range hood is properly installed.

7. If the range hood comes with a glass canopy that has not already been mounted to the hood, loosen the hood’s four canopy screws and washers and carefully install the canopy. Re-tighten the screws but not all the way. DO NOT put excessive pressure against the glass.

8. Test the hood on a flat surface before installation: check functioning of speeds and lights, and ensure that the dampers open at the lowest speed.

9. If the dampers are too tight, carefully remove them and trim both exterior edges.

10. To avoid vibration noise, install the dampers with the two raised studs on top.

Installation

Installation (refer to Page 5 for parts list):

1. Measure the distance between the stove top and the bottom of the range hood and mark it on the wall. A distance of 30” to 33” is recommended.*

*Due to different ceiling height configurations, recommended height may not be applicable.

2. Make sure the range hood is level and not tilted. Mark the location of the mounting-bracket holes for the range hood on the wall as shown in Figure 1b.

3. Place the chimney mounting bracket directly above the range hood and hold it against the ceiling. Level it and mark the location of the mounting-bracket holes for the chimney on the wall as shown in Figure 1a.

4. Locate the hole markings and drill the holes for all the mounting brackets. Use appropriate anchors for your type of ceiling:

• Sheet rock: Attach range hood to stud blockings if possible. If stud blockings are not accessible, build a support structure behind the sheet-rock for optimal support.

• Concrete: Use designated screws (not provided).

• Wood: Use at least 4” long wood screws (not provided).

5. Install anchors in the drilled holes for the range hood mounting bracket and chimney mounting bracket as shown in Figure 2. Loosely fasten the range hood mounting screws into their anchors but DO NOT fasten screws all the way. Hang the range hood on the screws and tighten them by hand. Leave a gap of approximately 1/16” between the wall and range hood.

6. Place the chimney mounting bracket against the wall and align its holes with appropriate anchored holes in the wall. Fasten the chimney mounting bracket screws into the anchors through the holes as shown in Figure 3. Leave a gap of approximately 1/16” between the wall and the chimney mounting bracket.

8. Calculate the height of the duct tube and extend it approximately 6 inches longer than required. Connect the lower end of the duct tube to the range hood, and the upper end to the vent system or air diverter (make sure that electricity feeding this part of the kitchen is turned off at the main electrical panel during this process). When finished, connect the range hood’s power cord to the power source.

9. Have one person carefully position both the upper and lower chimneys on the range hood while the second person slides the sides of the chimneys into the 1/16” gap. Fasten both chimneys with four screws.

10. Install the grease cup and aluminum filters. Turn on the electricity at the main electrical panel. Check the operation of the range hood.

Range Hood Operation & Wiring Diagrams

This range hood is designed to remove smoke, as well as cooking vapors and odours, from the cooking surface. For best results, start the range hood before cooking begins and allow it to operate several minutes after cooking is completed.

3-Speed Mechanical Control

Turn On:

• Press the speed control (Low Speed, Medium Speed, High Speed) switch to select the desired power level. When a button is pressed, the previous speed mode is cancelled.

• Press the Light Switch to turn on the lights.

Turn Off:

• Press Power Switch to turn the power off.

• Press Light Switch to turn the lights off.

CAUTION: DO NOT touch the lights until they are switched OFF and have cooled.

6-Speed Electronic Touch Control

Button functions:

• Power: Turns the range hood on and off, and activates power-off delay timer.

• Decrease Value: Decreases blower speed, enters timer mode and decreases timer value.

• Increase Value: Increases blower speed and timer value, and resets cleaning reminder.

• Blower Speed Indicator: Displays current blower speed (from 1 to 6).

• Light: Turns halogen or LED lights on and off.

• Power-Off Delay Digital Timer: Indicates length of time left on the delay-off timer.

Controls:

• Automatic cleaning reminder: This range hood is equipped with a cleaning reminder that will activate following 30 hours of use. When the cumulative running time reaches 30 hours, a beep will sound when the blower (motor) starts to rotate as a reminder to clean the aluminum filter. After cleaning the filter and when the motor is not in use, press and hold Increase Value for three seconds to reset the timer. Note that turning off the system will not reset the Power-On Elapsed Timer.

• Adjusting the blower (motor) speed: Press Power once to turn the system on. The Blower Speed Indicator shows the blower speed level. Press Decrease Value to decrease the speed of the blower from 6 (strongest and loudest) to 1 (weakest and quietest). Press Increase Value to increase the blower speed as desired. Press Power once to turn the unit off.

• Adjusting the duration of Power-Off Timer:

While the blower is not running, press Decrease Value button and hold for 3 seconds to enter timer mode. Adjust to desired duration of timer (1-15 minutes) by pressing Increase Value or Decrease Value buttons. This setting is saved immediately.

• Activating the Power-Off Timer:

While the blower is running, press Power button and hold for over 3 seconds to activate Power-Off Timer. Countdown begins and when it reaches zero, the blower (motor) will shut down.

Note: Light settings are independent from other settings (including power-off delay) and lights must be manually turned on or off. Note: The system saves user configurations and settings, such as light, timer and blower speed. These will remain the same the next time the unit is turned on.

Troubleshooting

1. If the range hood or halogen lights do not operate after installation:

• Ensure the unit is plugged in and the power is on. Verify that a fuse has not blown and that all electrical

wiring is properly installed and connected.

• Check for a defective bulb by replacing it with another known to be working properly (see the Maintenance

section on pages 18 & 19).

2. The range hood vibrates when the blower is on:

• The range hood might not have been properly secured to the wall. Check with your installer.

3. The blower or fan seems weak:

• Check that the duct size is at least 6” or 3-1/4” x 10”. Range hood WILL NOT function efficiently if the duct is

too small or if the duct is loosely secured.

• Check to see if the duct is clogged or if the damper unit (butterfly flappers) is installed correctly and is

opening properly. A tight mesh on a side wall cap unit might also cause restriction to the airflow.

4. The lights work but the blower is not spinning, is stuck or is rattling:

• The blower might be jammed or scraping the bottom due to shipping damage. Please contact LUX

immediately.

5. The hood is not venting properly:

• Make sure the distance between the stove top and the bottom of the hood is 30” to 33” (note that due to

different ceiling heights, this recommended height may not be applicable).

• Reduce the number of elbows and the length of duct work. Verify that all joints are properly connected,

sealed, and taped.

• Make sure the power is on high speed for heavy cooking.

NOTE: For all other inquiries, please contact LUX.

Take note:

Slots, holes and openings near the top of the upper chimney are used to exhaust cleaned air if range hood has been converted into a purifying unit. If you did not install a re-circulation conversion kit, you do not need these slots, holes or openings.

Use and Care Information

Operation:

• Read and understand all instructions and warnings in this guide before operating the appliance. Save this

information for future reference.

• Always leave the blower safety grilles and the filters in place. Without these components, the blower can

snag hair, fingers and loose clothing.

• NEVER expose blowers to cigarette ash, ignitable substances or other foreign objects.

• NEVER leave cooking unattended. Hot oil used in pan frying can easily overheat and catch fire. The risk is

higher when the oil has been used several times.

• NEVER cook on “open” flame under the range hood. Check deep-fryers during use as super-heated oil may

be flammable.

Cleaning:

• The build-up of greasy residue in the blower and filters increases the chance of fire. Keep the unit free of

grease and residue build-up at all times.

• Filters must be cleaned periodically and be free from accumulated cooking residue (see cleaning instructions

on page 18). Old and worn-out filters must be replaced immediately.

• Do not operate blowers when filters are removed; never disassemble parts to clean without proper

instructions. Disassembly should be performed by qualified personnel only. Read and understand all instructions and warnings in this guide before proceeding.

• Use two hands to remove filters.

Maintenance

SAFETY WARNING: Never put your hand into the area housing the fan while the fan is operating!

Cleaning the filters and grease container regularly will optimize the range hood’s performance, prolong its life, and preserve its appearance.

Cleaning Exterior Surfaces:

• Clean periodically with hot soapy water and a cotton cloth. Do not use corrosive agents or abrasive

detergents (e.g. Comet Power Scrub®, EZ-Off® Oven Cleaner); do not use steel wool/scoring pads that will scratch and damage the stainless steel surface. For heavier cleaning, use a liquid degreasing agent such as Formula 409® or Fantastic®.

• If (stainless steel) hood looks splotchy, use a stainless steel cleaner to clean the surface of the hood. Avoid

getting cleaning solution onto or into the control panel. Follow the directions of the cleaner. CAUTION: Do not leave the cleaner on too long as this may cause damage to finish. Use soft towel to wipe off the cleaning solution, gently rubbing away any stubborn spots. Use a dry, soft towel to dry the hood.

• After cleaning, you may use non-abrasive stainless steel polish such as 3M® or ZEP® to polish and bring out

the lustre and grain of the material. Always scrub lightly, with a clean cotton cloth, and in the direction of the grain.

• DO NOT allow deposits to accumulate or remain on the hood.

• DO NOT use ordinary steel wool or steel brushes as small bits of steel may adhere to the surface of the range

hood and cause rusting.

• DO NOT allow salt solutions, disinfectants, bleaches or cleaning compounds to remain in contact with

stainless steel for extended periods. Many such compounds contain chemicals that may be harmful to the steel. Rinse with water after exposure and wipe dry with a clean cloth.

Cleaning Aluminum Grease Filters / Blower Safety Grilles:

• The aluminum filters fitted in the factory are intended to filter out residue and grease from cooking. They

need not be replaced regularly but must be kept clean. Filters should be cleaned after every 30 hours of use.

• Remove and clean by hand or dishwasher. Spray Formula 409® or equivalent degreasing agent and leave the

filter to soak if heavily soiled. Dry the filters and re-install them before using the range hood.

IMPORTANT: Drain grease from grease container before the grease and residue overflow.

Replacing Filters:

• Worn out filters can be replaced by contacting LUX or an authorized dealer.

• Note: A filter with a punctured or broken mesh, or a bent or broken frame, should be replaced.

Replacing G4 Type Halogen Light Fixtures:

• This range hood uses 20W/12V (G4) halogen light fixtures.

• Before replacing a light fixture, make sure the range hood is unplugged or the breaker has been turned OFF.

Do not touch the lights until they have cooled.

• Place a flathead screwdriver between light housing and hood body. Gently pry up the light housing and

search for the metal clip. Apply force to the metal clip and pull out the light fixture. Disconnect the power cord and discard the old light fixture.

• Reverse the steps to install a new halogen light fixture. After the new light has been installed, turn ON the

breaker and range hood to test that the new light fixture is working properly.

Replacing G4 Type Halogen Light Bulbs:

• This range hood uses 20W 12V (G4) halogen light bulbs.

• Before replacing a light bulb, make sure the range hood is unplugged or the breaker has been turned OFF.

Do not touch the lights until they have cooled.

• Place a small flathead screwdriver between light housing and lens cover. Carefully and gently pry up the lens

cover. Remove the old halogen light bulb by pulling in the direction of the wavy arrow as illustrated below. Do not touch the new light bulb with your bare hands.

• Reverse the steps to install a new halogen light bulb. After the new bulb has been installed, turn ON the

breaker and the range hood to test that the new light bulb is working properly.

Replacing GU10 Type Halogen Light Bulbs:

• Make sure the range hood is unplugged or the breaker has been turned OFF.

• Make sure the lights are cool to the touch. Press in and turn the light bulb clockwise to remove it. Install a

new light bulb by pressing it in and turning counter clockwise.

• Turn ON the breaker and the range hood to test that the new light bulb is working properly.

DO NOT touch bulbs until they have been switched off and have cooled.

Touching hot bulbs can cause serious burns.

If you need replacement parts, we recommend that you only use genuine parts. Our accessories and parts are engineered and designed specifically for this series of range hood, with each one rigorously tested to ensure the utmost in durability and reliability.

You must present proof of original purchase.

Please provide an original, dated proof of purchase (sales receipt / invoice) with your name on it in order to obtain service under the warranty.

For one year from the date of original purchase, LUX will provide free of charge, non-consumable replacement parts or components for parts that failed due to manufacturing defects. Subject to the conditions and limitations set forth below, LUX will, at its discretion, either repair or replace any part of its product that proves defective by reason of improper workmanship or materials.

Repaired or replacement parts will be provided by LUX on an exchange basis, and will be either new or refurbished to be functionally equivalent to new. The consumer is responsible for all shipping costs. Consumable parts not covered by this warranty include but are not limited to light bulbs and filters.

This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser for products purchased for ordinary home use.

Limitations

This warranty will be voided if the product is damaged through negligence, improper installation, accident, abuse, misuse, natural disaster, insufficient or excessive electrical supply, abnormal mechanical or environmental conditions, or any unauthorized disassembly, repair, modification, or failure to follow installation instructions correctly. It will also be voided if:

 the product is used commercially or other than for its intended purpose.  the product is damaged because of improper connection with equipment of other manufacturers, or

repaired or modified by anyone other than a person mandated and authorized by LUX.

This limited warranty also does not apply to any product on which the original identification information has been altered, obliterated or removed, has not been handled or packaged correctly, or has been sold as used or second hand.

What is not covered

This warranty does not cover: 1) consumable parts such as light bulbs and filters; 2) the natural wear of the finish or wear due to improper maintenance, or the use of corrosive and/or abrasive cleaning products or wool pads; 3) chips, dents or cracks due to abuse, misuse, freight damage, or improper installation; 4) damage caused by accident, fire, floods or Acts of God.

LUX and its authorized dealers are not liable for, and do not cover under warranty, any loss of properties or any costs associated with removing, servicing, installing or determining the source of problems with this product. These elements are not covered under this warranty.

This warranty is valid in the country of the original purchase at retail. It is non-transferable, applies only to the original purchaser, and does not extend to subsequent owners of this product.

To obtain warranty service, contact LUX. Have close at hand your original invoice/receipt, the product name and model number as indicated on the receipt, along with a detailed description of the problem you are experiencing.

You must also include proof of the date of original retail purchase (original receipt) as evidence that the product is within the applicable warranty period.

Disclaimer

Carefully inspect all items for damages before accepting delivery or, if you picked-up the product at an authorized dealer, as soon as you get home.

Upon acceptance of items, the owner assumes full responsibility for the state of the product.

Damages caused during transit are not covered under our warranty. If the delivery was conducted by an authorized dealer, please contact the dealer for any claim regarding damages. LUX must be notified of any damages and/or missing parts within five (5) days upon your receipt of merchandise. Claims will not be accepted after five (5) days.

NOTE: Items were thoroughly tested and carefully packed in our factory before shipping.

RETURNS/EXCHANGES: All sales are final. Any return or exchange request will be approved or refused at the sole discretion of LUX. If a return/exchange request is approved, the product must be returned in good working condition with ALL original parts and documentation packed in ALL original cartons, fillers and shipping cartons. A re-stocking fee of 25% will be charged for all approved returns/exchanges. Exchanges or returns may be refused if any packaging is missing.

Make sure to inspect the range hood for damages and defects before installation. Appearance flaws of the hood found after installation and not affecting performance are not covered under this warranty. Service visits for problems not covered under warranty will carry a service charge.

Before Installation: Exchange or return requests can be approved at the sole discretion of LUX (please see RETURNS/EXCHANGES section above).

After Installation: NO exchange or return.
