2.INSTALLATION
1. Loosen strings and rem ove old bri dge. Fit the feet of the pick up bridge to the vi olin . Make sure the pi ckup wire faces the chin rest for proper balance.
2. For prop er stri ng alignment and act io n of the new bridge, place the old bridge on top of the pickup and trace its outl ine on the new bridge. Trim exc ess wood from the to p of the new br idge and cut pr op er notche s for the str ings.
3. Yo u may remove as much as .032" from the entire front face of the b ridge to voice the violin. Carefu lly sand the br idge on its face on a flat surf ace. Above th e hear t,. remove as much mater ial as needed t o match t he old bridge. Do not s an d or shape the bridge's ba ck s ide.
4. Place the new bridg e on the v iolin and b ridge the s trings up to pitch ver y slowly. Be sure that t hat the b ri dge does not bow, flex or t ip during this process. Exerci se c are during th is delicate process. The se nsor s are vul nerable to da mage here.
5. Att ach the Carpenter jack to the area next to an d just in front of the chin rest. Caref ully s older the pick up t o the jack follo wing t he ins truc tions provi de d with the jack.
Do not pu t any press ure on the wire where it m eets the br idge when shaping and fitting th e pickup.
A preamp is not neces sary wh en plug ged into most acoust ic instrument amp lifi ers, but the "inp ut impedance " of wha tever you plu g y our violin pickup into f irst must be at lea st 1 megohm or high er t o get the most out of t his pickup. If you soun d th in a nd screechy, check the i mp edance. For superior results use a B aggs preamp s uch as the Para Acou stic D.I . or G igpro, then send the signal to a high-qualit y f ull- range P.A . Use as shor t a cord as practical bet ween t he pickup and the prea mp. Do not p ut passive volum e or tone control s between t he pickup a nd the preamp; t his will destroy the sound of the pickup.
Unless other wise specif ie d, the vio lin pickup package inclu des a Carp enter Jack. T his profes sion al-quality 1/4" jac k attaches next to the chinr est with the sa me type of ha rdware. This jack ma ke s a perfect mount ing point to add a microph one.
If a slight bend starts to develop in the bridge, strai ghten it carefully. Also, do not tug on the wire. W ith proper care, your Baggs pick up shou ld last fo r many years.
