Hybrid System
Your vehicle is a hybrid vehicle. It has characteristics different from conventional vehicles. Be sure you are closely familiar with the characteristics of your vehicle, and operate with care. The hybrid system combines the use of a gasoline engine and an electric motor (traction motor) according to driving conditions, improving fuel efficiency and reducing exhaust emissions. For details, refer to the “Owner’s Manual”.
3
Hybrid System Indicator
Charge area
1
Shows regenerative charging.
Hybrid Eco area
2
Shows that gasoline engine power is not being used very often. The gasoline engine will automatically stop and restart under various conditions.
Eco area Shows that the vehicle is being driven in an Eco-friendly manner.
Power area
4
Shows that an Eco-friendly driving range is being exceeded (during full power driving etc.)
Hybrid System Indicator is displayed when the driving mode is other than the sport mode.
By keeping the indicator needle within Eco area, more Eco-friendly driving can be achieved.
Charge area indicates regeneration the battery.
* status. Regenerated energy will be used to charge
*: When used in this manual, “regeneration” refers to the conversion of energy created by
the movement of the vehicle into electrical energy.
13
LS600hL_QG_U
Charging the hybrid battery (traction battery)
If the shift lever is in N, the hybrid battery (traction battery) will not be charged. Always
put the shift lever in P when the vehicle is stopped. When driving in heavy traffic, operate the vehicle with the shift lever in D or S to avoid discharging the battery.
To help prevent the 12-volt battery from becoming discharged, drive the vehicle at least once a month, and operate the accessories only when the “READY” indicator is on. When parking the vehicle, make sure the doors and trunk are closed and all lights are turned off.
Regenerative braking
In the following situations, kinetic energy is converted to electric energy and deceleration force can be obtained in conjunction with the recharging of the hybrid battery (traction battery).
The accelerator pedal is released while driving with the shift position in D or S.
The brake pedal is depressed while driving with the shift position in D or S.
Sounds and vibrations specific to a hybrid vehicle
There may be no engine sounds or vibration even though the vehicle is able to move. For safety, apply the parking brake and make sure to shift the shift lever to P when parked. The following sounds or vibrations may occur when the hybrid system is operating and are not a malfunction:
Motor sounds may be heard from the engine compartment.
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid battery (traction battery) behind the rear seats
when the hybrid system starts or stops.
Sounds from the hybrid system may be heard when the trunk lid is open.
Sounds may be heard from the hybrid transmission when the hybrid system starts or
stops.
Engine sounds may be heard when accelerating sharply.
Sounds may be heard due to regenerative braking when the accelerator pedal is
released or the brake pedal is depressed.
Vibration may be felt or sounds may be heard when the gasoline engine starts or stops.
Cooling fan sounds may be heard from the air intake vents on the package tray.
Running out of fuel
When the vehicle has run out of fuel and the hybrid system cannot be started, refuel the vehicle with at least enough gasoline to make the low fuel level warning light go off. If there is only a small amount of fuel, the hybrid system may not be able to start. (The minimum amount of fuel to add to make the low fuel level warning light go out is about 3.4 gal. [13 L,
2.8 Imp. gal.], when the vehicle is on a level surface. This value may vary when the vehicle is
on a slope.)

Driving Position Memory
This feature automatically adjusts the front seats, steering wheel, outside rear view mirrors and height of seat belt shoulder anchor to suit your preferences.
Driving position memory
Your preferred driving position (the position of the driver's seat, steering wheel, outside rear view mirrors and height of seat belt shoulder anchor) can be recorded and recalled by pressing a switch. Three different driving positions can be recorded into memory.
Recording procedure
1
Adjust the driver’s seat, steering wheel, outside rear view mirrors and seat belt shoulder anchor height to the desired positions.
2
To record the position of the front passenger’s seat, adjust the front passenger’s seat to the desired position and perform step using the switches on the front passenger’s side.
2
Press the “SET” switch, then within 3 seconds press switch “1”, “2” or “3” until the buzzer sounds.
If the selected switch has already been preset, the previously recorded position will be overwritten.
Recall procedure

Press one of the switches for the driving position you want to recall until the buzzer sounds.
Vehicles with relaxation seat: When retractable table (4-seat models) or ottoman is used, rearward memories cannot be recalled.
LS600hL_QG_U
Memory recall function (driver's side only)
The rear seat position can be memorized and recalled with the touch of a button.
Each electronic key (including a card key) can be registered to recall your preferred driving position.
Registering procedure
Using the wireless remote control
While pressing the desired switch (“1”, “2” or “3”), press on the wireless remote
control until the buzzer sounds.
To prevent unintended triggering of the alarm, open and close a door once after a driving position has been recorded. (If a door is not opened within 30 seconds after
is pressed, the doors will be locked
again and the alarm will automatically be set.)
Using the door lock switch
Carry only one of the keys (including the card key) to which you want to link the driving position. If 2 or more keys are in the vehicle, the driving position cannot be linked properly.
While pressing the recalled switch, press and hold the door lock switch (either lock or unlock) until the buzzer sounds.
