CERAMIC PANEL & LOG PLACEMENT GUIDE FOR LSM40-2 & LSM45-2 MONTEBELLO SERIES GAS APPLIANCES
GENERAL INFORMATION
This ceramic panel and log and placement guide has been prepared to present detailed placement illustrations and provide instruction to assist in the initial (new appliance) setup and after the annual cleaning and inspection cycles. The information provided here is to be used in conjunction with the Homeowner's Care and Operation Instructions provided together with this document in the appliance literature packet. Please read the Homeowner's Care and Operation Instructions completely before completing the procedures detailed in this placement guide.
INITIAL INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS
If the ceramic panels and logs are being installed for the first time, the following paragraphs apply:

For Propane Gas Only, Do Not Place Embers On Main Ports
DO NOT attempt to install the logs until the appliance installation has been completed, the gas line connected and tested for leaks and the initial burner operation has been checked out.
Step 1. Remove the boxed ceramic panels from the packaging. Handle panels carefully to prevent breakage.
Step 2. Remove the appliance front door.
Step 3. Cut and remove the nylon securing the grate, the boxed
log set and bottom panel to the interior of the fireplace.
Step 4. Remove the logs from their packaging. Handle logs carefully to prevent breakage.
Step 5. Remove the bottom panel from its packaging. Handle
panel carefully to prevent breakage.
CERAMIC PANEL, LOG AND GLOWING EMBER PLACEMENT
Step 1. Install the ceramic panels as shown in
should be placed in the order shown. A. Remove the two L-brackets. B. Slide the bottom edge of the bottom rear panel between the
grate assembly and the back wall.
C. Tilt and slide the bottom edge of the right side panel up against the
side wall as shown. Re-install the L-bracket to hold the panel in place.
D. Tilt and slide the right edge of the top rear panel and rest the
bottom edge on the bottom rear panel as shown.
E. Repeat Step C for the left panel.
Step 2. Place a mixture of volcanic stone and vermiculite around
the burner as shown in
Figure 4

Step 3. Separate the Glowing Ember (Rockwool) into pieces about
the size of a quarter (see matted. Distribute these pieces over the burner as shown in

. Do not use more than necessary. When properly positioned, the Glowing Embers will cover approximately 75% of the burner on natural gas. For propane gas, do not place embers on main ports.
Note: Excessive use of embers may result in sooting or poor flame. This appliance is provided with enough Glowing Embers for several applications, do not feel compelled to use all that is in a new bag. For best glowing effect, replace the ember material annually. Replace­ment Glowing Embers are available (Catalog Number 88L53).
Step 4. Position the individual logs as shown in should be placed in the order shown. Place logs 2 and 3 against the pins on the grate, NOT over them.
Proper log and twig placement is critical to encourage outstanding flame appearance and prevent sooting. When positioned properly as shown, twigs will be positioned between flame peaks and will not impinge any flames. Positioning is the same for all colors of log sets.
