Attaching the Lens Cap/Shoulder Strap
∫ Lens Cap
•
When you turn the camera off or carry the camera, attach the lens cap to protect the surface of
the lens.
Pass the string through the hole on the
camera.
Pass the same string
through the hole on the
lens cap.
Attach the lens cap.
• Detach the lens cap before turning on the
camera in the Recording Mod e.
• Do not hang or swing around the camera
holding it only by the the lens cap string.
• Make sure to deta ch the lens cap when
turning the power [ON] or zooming.
• Be careful not to lose the lens cap.
• Since the lens cap string is long , be careful
not to let it get tangled with the shoulder
strap or let it hit the tripod during motion
picture recording.
- 13 -
Preparation
∫ Shoulder Strap
•
We recommend attaching the shoulder strap when using the camera to prevent it from
dropping.
Pass the shoulder strap through the hole at the
shoulder strap eyelet.
Pass the shoulder strap through the stopper
and fasten the shoulder strap.
A Pull the shoulder strap 2 cm (1/2”) or more.
• Attach the shoulder strap to the other side of the camera
being careful not to twist it.
• Check that the shoulder strap is firmly attached to the
camera.

Preparation
Attaching the Lens Hood
In bright sunlight or backlight, the lens hood will minimize lens flare and ghosting. The lens
hood cuts off excess lighting and improves the picture quality.
•
Check that the camera is turned off.
• Close the flash.
1 Insert the lens hood into the lens with the short sides at the top and bottom.
2 Rotate the lens hood in the direction of the arrow until it stops with a "click".
3 Check t hat the marks A on the lens hood and the lens barrel are aligned.
•
Check that the lens hood is firmly attached and that it does not appear in the picture.
123
∫ Temporarily storing the lens hood
1 Turn the lens hood in the direction of the arrow to detach it.
2 Reverse the lens hood and then insert the lens hood into the lens with the short
sides at the top and bottom.
Screw the lens hood into the lens barrel in the direction indicated by the arrow, ensuring
•
that the two parts mesh together properly.
3 Turn the lens hood in the direction of the arrow until it stops.
•
Attach the lens cap.
• When temporarily storing the lens hood, check that it is firmly attached.
123
Note
When taking pictures with flash with the lens hood attached, the lower portion of the photo may
•
turn dark (vignetting effect) and the control of the flash may be disabled because the photo
flash may be obscured by the lens hood. We recommend detaching the lens hood.
• When using the AF assist lamp in the dark, detach the lens hood.

Charging the Battery
∫ About batteries you can use with this camera.
It has been found that counterfeit battery packs which look very similar to the
genuine product are made available to purchase in some markets. Some of these
battery packs are not adequately protected with internal protection to meet the
requirements of appropriate safety standards. There is a possibility that these
battery packs may lead to fire or explosion. Please be advised that we are not
liable for any accident or failure occurring as a result of use of a counterfeit
battery. To ensure safe operation we urgently recommend to use only the Leica
battery BP-DC9 E/U (P7).
•
Use only the specified charger and battery.
• The camera has a function for distinguishing batteries which can be used safely. The
dedicated battery supports this function. The only battery suitable for use with this
camera is the Leica battery BP-DC9 E/U (P7). (Batteries which do not support this
function cannot be used). Leica cannot in any way guarantee the quality, performance or
safety of any other batteries.
∫ Charging
•
The battery is not charged when the camera is shipped. Charge the battery before use.
• Charge the battery with the charger indoors.
• It is recommended to charge the battery in a temperature between 10 oC to 30 oC.
(The battery temperature should also be the same.)
Insert the battery into the charger.
• The terminals should face the charger ’s contacts
and the Leica logo upwards.

•
The charging time may vary depending on how the battery has been used. The charging

time may be longer than normal.
∫ Battery indication
The battery indication is displayed on the LCD monitor/Viewfinder.
The indication turns red and flashes if the remaining battery power is exhausted. (The power

lamp also flashes) Recharge the battery or replace it with a fully charged battery.
Note
The battery may be warm after use, during charging, immediately after charging etc. The
•
camera also becomes warm during use. This is not a malfunction.
• The battery can be recharged even when it still has some charge left, but it is not
recommend ed that the battery charge be frequ ently topped up while the battery is fully
charged. (Since characteristic swelling may occur.)
• Do not leave any metal items (such as clips) near the power plug terminals.Otherwise, a
fire and/or electric shocks may be caused by short-circuiting or the resulting heat
generated.

• Temperature: 23 oC/Humidity: 50%RH when LCD monitor is on.
• Using a 32 MB SD Memory Card.
• Using the supplied battery.
• Starting recording 30 seconds after the camera is turned on. (When the Optical Image
Stabilizer Function is set to [AUTO].)
• Recording once every 30 seconds with full flash every second recording.
• Rotating the zoom lever from Tele to Wide or vice versa in every recording.
• Turning the camera off every 10 recordings and leaving it until the temperature of the battery
decreases.
The number of recordable pictures varies depending on the recording interval time.
If the recording interval time becomes longer, the number of recordable pictures
decreases. [For example, if you were to take one pi cture every two minutes, then the
number of pictures would be reduced to approximately one-quarter of the number
of pictures given above (based upon one picture taken every 30 seconds).]
