Use according to purpose
Use the rechargeable vacuum cleaner to vacuum dry surfaces or dry vacuum material only. Man or animal must not be vacuumed with this device. Any use or modifi cation of the device other than intended is not in accordance with the specifi ed purpose and poses a substantial accident risk. The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by application which is not in compliance with the specifi ed purpose or which caused by improper operation. Not suitable for industrial application.

Note: The KH 280 cordless rechargeable hand vacuum cleaner is supplied with the batteries in the uncharged state. Before using the appliance for the fi rst time charge the batteries for 24 hours.

Safety
Important notes on safety
To prevent danger to life from electric shock:
· Do not charge or use this device outdoors.
· Never use the hand vacuum cleaner if cables, the plug or the casing are damaged.
· Send defective devices to the respective serv­ ice point or have a specialised workshop carry out repairs. Never open the device. Any ma­ nipulation performed other than by an author­ ised service point may prove hazardous to your health.
· Before switching on the vacuum cleaner, be sure that the voltage as indicated in the technical information of the device complies with the supply voltage.
· Never touch the plug or the device with wet or damp hands.
· Do not use the power pack with an extension cord. Connect the power pack directly with

an electrical outlet. Use the device at the stated current voltage only.
To avoid the risk of injury:
· Never exchange accessories if the device is in operation.
· Do not use the hand vacuum cleaner to vacuum pointed objects or broken glass.
· Never vacuum burning matches, glowing ash or cigarette butts.
· Never use the hand vacuum cleaner to vacuum chemical products, stone dust, gyp­ sum, cement or other, similar particles.
· This hand vacuum cleaner is exclusively intended for dry surfaces. The device is not suitable for foam, water, fl ammable and explosive substances or other fl uids.
· Always store the device in closed rooms. To prevent accidents, store the device after use in a dry place.
· Extreme conditions may cause the battery cells to leak. If skin or eyes come into contact with the fl uid, instantly rinse the affected area with clear water. Seek medical assistance.
To act saf ely:
· Caution! Keep children away from connecting lines and the device. Children often underesti­ mate the potential risks from electrical appli­ ances.
· Only use accessories recommended by the manufacturer.
· The line of the charging station must not be used for other purposes. Never carry the charging station or the power pack by the cable. When repositioning the device, do not disconnect by holding the cable.
· Always hold the mains plug to disconnect the device from the power supply.
· Observe at all times that the hand vacuum cleaner is not deposited next to radiators, ovens or other heated devices or surfaces.
· Always ensure that the vents are not covered. A blocked air circulation can lead to overheat­ ing and may cause damage to the device.
· This product contains rechargeable lead stor­ age batteries. Do not dispose of the batteries by throwing them into fi re and do not expose them to high temperatures. Risk of bursting!
· Exercise caution when using the hand vacuum cleaner on staircases.
· Do not use the hand vacuum cleaner without installed dust particle fi lter.
· Do not use the power pack for any other product. Do not try to charge this device with another charging station. Use the charging station supplied with this device only.
Operation
Before the fi rst use
1. The cordless rechargeable vacuum cleaner is operated with rechargeable lead-acid bat­ teries. Before using the vacuum cleaner for the fi rst time charge the batteries for a mini­ mum 24 hours.
2. The rechargeable batteries reach their full capacity after a 24-hour charging cycle. The rechargeable vacuum cleaner can be used for the entire operation period if the batteries are fully charged. If, during operation of the appliance, only one LED lights up, then this shows that the battery capacity is low. In this event, the batteries should be recharged.
Charging
1. Position the charging station I next to an electrical power supply and connect the plug.

The charge indicator T shows red to indicate that the device is positioned correctly in the cradle and that the charging cycle has started. Note: Ensure that the On/Off switch

In the event that your battery is defective, please contact our Service Centre directly. The service centre for your country is shown on the enclosed guarantee card. Please do not send in the whole device. Just send the defective battery.

5. If all the four LEDs in the battery charge indicator light up, then the batteries are fully charged. The fewer LED indicators light up, the lower is the remaining battery capacity.
Important:
If, during operation of the appliance, only one LED lights up, then this shows that the battery capacity is low. In this event, the batteries should be recharged.
Cleaning

Warning: The nozzle opening and airway must be free and unobstructed at all times. Blockages can lead to overheating and damage to the motor.

Disposal
Battery disposal
1. The vacuum cleaner is operated by lead-acid batteries. These batteries must be disposed of properly.
2. When the batteries are no longer capable of being charged, take them out of the appliance and ensure that they are disposed of properly. (Pic. A)
3. To remove the batteries, unscrew the lid on the underside of the vacuum cleaner. (Pic. A)
4. Only remove the batteries when they are about to be disposed of.
5. Take the spent batteries to a recycling centre. Dispose of in accordance with the laws and regulations applicable in your country.
Important: Replace with lead-acid batteries. If other batteries are used this can lead to dam­age to the appliance.
Please contact your local council offi ce to fi nd out about disposal facilities for your worn-out appliances.
