Line Splitter (69400)
Instruction Manual
The Klein Tools 69400 Line Splitter separates t he hot from the neutral and
ground wires on a standard 120V out l et so that current measurements can be
made with a current clam p. Without the Line Splitt er, the current clamp
measures the load c urr ent going in both directio ns, ef fectively cancelli ng t he
measurement. The Line Splitter has a st andard measurement section and a
ten-times multiplier se cti on for use with less ac curate or higher ranged clamp
meters. The line spli tter can also be used to make voltage checks with
standard multimete r probes.
MEASURING LINE CURRENT
1. Plug the Line Splitter into a standard 120V AC groun ded receptacle.
2. Plug the load’s power cord into the Line Splitter.
3. Place the jaws of the current clamp around the X1 or X10 opening of the
Line Splitter. Turn o n the load so it is drawing pow er.
4. Read the current m easurement directly i f clamped around the X1
opening. Divide the rea di ng by 10 if clamped around the X10 opening.
MEASURING LINE VOLTAGE
1. Plug the Line Splitter into a standard 120V AC groun ded receptacle.
2. Plug the load’s power cord into the Line Splitter (Opt i onal).
3. Insert the multi meter leads into the Line S pl i t ter terminals marked “VOLT
CHECK”.
4. Read the voltage m easurement on the multimeter.
