DANGER

If you smell gas:

1. Shut off gas to the appliance.

2. Extinguish any open flame.

4. If odor continues, keep away from the appliance and immediately call your gas supplier or your fire department.

In the State of Massachus etts, the foll owi n g installation instruction s apply:

 Installations and repairs must be perform ed by a qualified o r licensed contractor , plumber, or gasfitter qualified o r licensed

by the State of Massachusetts.

 If using a ball valve, it shall be a T-handle type.  A flexible gas connector, when used, m ust not exceed 91. 44 cm / 3 feet.

IMPORTANT: This grill is manufactur e d for outdoor use only. For grills that are to be used at elev a tions above 609.6 m / 2,000 ft. orifice conversion is required. See “Gas Supply Requirements” section. It is the responsibility of the installer to comply with the minimum installation clearances specif ied on the model/ ser ial rating plate. The model /s erial rating plate for freestanding m odels can be found on the lef t-hand cab inet door.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electrical shock, Injury to persons, or damage when using the outdoor cooking gas appliance, follow basic precautions, including the following:

 Do not install portable or built-in outdoor cooking gas

appliances in or on a recreatio nal vehicle, po rtable trailer, boat or in any other m oving installation.

 Always maintain minimum clearances from combustible

construction, see “ Location Requirements” section.

 The outdoor cooking gas appliance shall not be located

under overhead unprotected combustibl e construction.

 This outdoor cooking gas appliance shall be used only

outdoors and shall not be used in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

 Keep any electrical supply cord and f uel supply hose

away from any heated surfaces.

 Keep outdoor cooking gas appliance area cl ear and free

from combustible material, gasoli ne and other flammable vapors and liquids.

 Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air.

Keep the ventilation openings of the cylinder enclosure free and clear from debris.

 Open the cabinet door and inspect the gas cylinder

supply hose before each us e of the outdoor cooking gas appliance. If the hose shows excessive abrasion or wear, or is cut, it MUST be replaced before using the outdoor cooking gas appliance. Co ntact your dealer and use only replacement hos es specified for use with the outdoor cooking gas appliance.

 Visually check the burner

flames. They should be blue. Slight yellow tipping is normal for LP gas. The flames should be approximately 2.54 cm / 1 in hi gh.

 Check and clean burner/venturi tube for insects and

insect nest. A clogged tube can lead to fire under the outdoor cooking gas appliance.

 The LP gas supply cylinder to be used must be:

- constructed and marked i n accordance w ith the Specification for LP Gas cylinders of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) or the National Standard of Canada, CAN/CSA-b33 9, Cyli nders, Spheres, and Tubes for Transportation of Dangerous Goods; and Commission.

- provided with a listed overfilling prevention device.

- provided with a cylinder connection devi ce compatibl e with the connection for outdoor cooking gas appliances.

 Always check connections for leaks each time you

connect and disconnect the LP gas supply cylinder. See “Installation Instructi ons” secti on.

 When the outdoor cooking gas appli a nce is not in use, the

gas must be turned off at the supply cylinder.

 Storage of an outdoor cooking gas appliance indoors is

permissible only if the cylinder is disconnected and removed from the outdoor co o k ing gas appliance.

 Cylinders must be stored outdoors and out of the reach of

children and must not be stored in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area.

 The pressure regulator and hose assembly supplied with

the outdoor cooking gas appliance must be used. A replacement press ure regul ator and hose ass embly specific to your model is avail abl e from your outdoor cooking gas appliance dealer.

 Gas cylinder must include a collar to protect the cylinder

valve.

 For appliances desig ned to use a CGA791 connection:

Place a dust cap on cylinder valve outlet whenever the cylinder is not in use. Only install the type of dust cap on the cylinder valve outlet that is provided wi th the cyli nder valve. Other types of caps or plugs may result in leakage of propane.

If the following information is not followed exactly, a fire causing death or serious injury may occur.

 Do not store a spare LP gas cylinder under or near this

outdoor cooking gas appliance.

 Never fill the cylinder beyond 80 percent full.

INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS

Location Requirements

Select a location that provides minimum exposure to wind and traffic paths. The location should be away from strong draft areas. Do not obstruct flow of combustion and ventilation air. Clearance to comb us tible construction fo r grill:

 A minimum of 91.44 c m / 36 in must be maintained

Rotisserie (accessory is not included)*

If you equip your grill with a rotisserie, a 15.24 cm / 6 in minimum clearance is needed for the rotisserie motor.

A grounded, 3-prong outlet located to the left of the grill is required.

Gas Supply Requirements

Burner Requirements for High Altitude

Input ratings shown on the model/s erial rati ng plate are fo r elevations up to 609.6 m / 2,000 ft. For elevations above 609. 6 m / 2,000 ft, ratings are reduced at a rate of 4% for each 304.8 m / 1,000 ft above sea level. Orifice conversion is required. See “Assistance” section to order.

Gas Supply Line Pressure Testing

Testing above 3.5 kPa / 1/2 psi. or 14" WCP (gauge):

The grill and its individual shutoff valve m ust be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing of that system at test pr essu res greater than 3. 5 kPa / 1/2 psi.

Testing below 3.5 kPa / 1/2 psi. or 14" WCP (gauge) or lower:

The grill must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shutoff valve during any pressure testing of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 3.5 kPa / 1/2 psi.

Gas Connection Requirements

Observe all governi ng codes and ordinance s. IMPORTANT: This installation must conform with all local

codes and ordinances. In the absence o f local cod es, installation mus t conform wi th either th e National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA5 4 , Natural Gas and Pro pan e Installation Co de, CSA B149.1, Pro pane Storag e And Handli n g Code, B149.2, or the Standard for Recreational Vehicles, ANSI A119.2/NFPA 1192 and CSA Z240 RV Series Recreati onal Vehicle Code as applicable.

IMPORTANT: Grill mu st be co nn ected to a regulated gas supply. Refer to the model/serial rating plate for informati on on the type of gas that can be u sed. If thi s in f or mati on does not agree with the type of gas available, check with your local gas supplier.

Gas Conversion:

No attempt shall be made to co nver t the g ri ll f ro m the g as specified on the model/ serial rating plate for use with a different gas type without consultin g the serving g as supplier. The conversion kit supplied with grill mu st be u sed. See “Gas Conversions” section for instructions.

Gas Pressure Regulator

The gas pressure regulator supplied with this grill must be used. The inlet (supply) press ure to the regulator shoul d be as follows for proper operation:

LP Gas:

Operating pressure: 11" WCP Inlet (supply) pressure: 11" to 14" WCP

Natural Gas:

Operating pressure: 4" WCP Inlet (supply) pressure: 7" to 14" WCP maximum . Contact local gas supplier if you are not sure about the inlet (supply) pressure.

9.07 kg / 20 lb LP Gas Fuel Tank

This grill is equipped for use with a 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank (fuel tank not supplied). A gas pressure regulator/hose assembly is supplied. Any brand of 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank is acceptable for use with the grill, provided that it is compatible with the grill’s retention means (tank tray incl uded). It is also design-certified by C SA Internatio n al for local LP g as supply or for Natural gas with appropriate conversion.

4. Tighten the locking screw agains t the bottom collar o f the

as fuel tank back into the cabinet. Turn the tank tray l ock in g br ack et clockwise 90º to tighten.

Natural Gas Conversion

Conversion must be made by a qualified gas technician. The qualified Natural gas technicia n shall provi de the Natural gas supply to the selected grill location in accordance with the National Fuel Gas Code ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 - latest edition, and local codes. F o r co nver si o n to Natural g as, th e Natu ral Gas Conversion Kit supplied with the grill (on some models) or the Natural Gas Conversion Kit Part Number 710-0003 must be used. See “Assistanc e” section f o r in fo rm atio n on ordering.

IMPORTANT: The gas i nstal lation m ust co nf o rm with lo cal codes, or in the absence of local codes, with the National Fuel Gas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA 54 - latest edition. Follow instructions fo r converting to Natural gas in the “Gas Conversions” section o f this manual or the instructions supplied with Natural Gas Conversion Kit Part Number 710-

0003. The gas supply line shal l be equipped with an approved shutoff valve. This v alve s houl d be located in the same area as the grill and shou ld be in a location that allows ease o f op enin g and closing. Do not block access to the shutoff valve. The valve is for turning on or shutting o ff gas to the grill.

Make Gas Connection

NOTE: If grill is to be converted to Natural gas, follow instructions in the “Gas Conversions” section.

9.07 kg / 20 lb LP Gas Fuel Tank

LP Gas: IMPORTANT: A 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank must be

purchased separately. IMPORTANT: The gas pressure regulator/hose assembly

supplied with the grill m ust be used. Replacemen t gas pressure regulator/hose assembly specific to your model is available from your outdoor grill dealer.

To Connect the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP Gas Fuel Tank:

1. Check that the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank is in the “OFF” position. If not, turn the valve clockwise until it stops.

2. Check that the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank valve has the proper type-1 external male thread con nection s per ANSI Z21.81.

3. Check that the burner co ntro l knobs are in the “OF F ” position.

4. Remove any debris and inspect the valve connections, port, and gas pressure regulator/hose assembly for damage.

NOTE: Always keep the LP cylinder at 90°(upright) orientation to provide vapor withdrawal.

5. Using your hand, turn the gas pressure regulator/hose assembly clockwise to connect to the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank as shown. Hand tighten only. Us e of a wrench could damag e the quick coupling nut.

Make sure that the cylinder valve connection device properly mates with the connection device attached to the inlet of the pressu re regulator.

6. Open the tank valve fully by turning the valve counterclockwi se. Wait a few minu tes for gas to move through the gas line.

7. Before lighting the grill, test all connections by brushing on an approved noncorrosive leak-detection solution. Bubbles will show a leak.

8. If a leak is found, tur n th e tank valv e of f and do no t u se the grill. Contact a qualified gas techni cian to mak e repairs.

9. Go to “Check and Adjust the B urn ers” section.

To Disconnect the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP Gas Fuel Tank:

1. Check that the burner con tro l knobs are in the “OF F ” position and the grill is cool.

2. Check that the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank is in the “OFF” position. If not, turn the valve clockwise until it stops.

3. Using your hand, turn the gas pressure regulator/hose assembly counterclo ckwise to disconnect to the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank as shown.

4. Hand loosen o nl y. U se o f a wr ench co u ld dam age t he quick coupling nut.

5. Place dust cap on cylinder valve outlet whenever the cylinder is not in use. Only install the type of dust cap on the valve outlet that is provided with the cylinder valve. Other types of caps or plugs may resul t in leakage o f propane.

GAS CONVERSIONS

Tools and Parts for Gas Conversion

Gather the required tools and par ts before star ting install atio n. Read and follow the instructions provided with any tools listed here.

Conversion from LP Gas to

atural Gas

Installation of the regulator

1. Turn off the main gas supply valve.

2. Disconnect 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank (if present).

3. Turn off all burner control valves.

4. Remove the 9.07 kg / 20 lb LP gas fuel tank (if pres ent) from the grill cart.

5. Use an adjustable wrench to remove the L P regulato r from the manifold.

IMPORTANT: Gas conversi o ns must be don e by a qualif ied installer. Before proceeding with conversio n, shut off the gas supply to the grill.

6. Use an adjustable wrench to install the Natu ral g as regulator hose to the manifol d and secure. Attach the Natural gas regulator to the side panel inside the gril l cart with the two screws that are preassembled on the regulator.

Make Gas Connection

1. A combination of pipe fi tting s must be used to con nect the grill to the existing gas line.  The 3.0 m / 10 ft PVC flexible gas supply hose design

certified by CSA must be u sed.

 Pipe-joint compounds suitable for use with Natural

gas must be used. Do no t use T ef lo n®

 There must be a certified manual shu t-off valve in the

gas supply line near the grill for easy access.

2. Connect the brass co nn ecto r on one end of th e 3.0 m / 10 ft PVC flexible gas supply hose to the Natural gas pressure regulator.

3. Connect the quick con necto r on the other end o f th e 3. 0 m / 10 ft PVC flexible gas supply hose to the rigid Natural gas supply pipe.

3. Remove the burner from the grill by lifting the burner out.

4. Use a 6 mm socket and wrench or a 6 mm nut driver to remove the LP brass o rif ice f ro m the en d of g as v alve. The main burner NG orifice is located behind the LP orifice, so no additional orifice needs to be installed.

Change Grill Main Burner Valve Orifices

1. Remove the grates and flame tamers.

2. Remove the two screws and cotter clip th at ho ld the burner in place. Set the s crew and clip aside.

IMPORTANT: Check that the LP orif ice is properly removed inside of the burner opening.

5. Reinsert the burner and reattach u sing t he cotter clip and screws previously removed. Repeat the procedure for each main burner.

6. Position the igniters so they are 3.2 mm / 1/8 in away from each burner.

Change The Sear Burner Orifice

1. Disconnect th e quick co nn ector .

2. Remove the two thum b s crews.

5. Use a 6 mm socket and wrench or a 6 mm nut driver to

remove the orifice and replace with the natural gas or ifice.

IMPORTANT: Check that the NG orifice is properly installed inside of the valve.

6. Reinstall the sear burner. Make sure the sear burner tube

is inserted into the gas valve, as shown.

3. Use a screwdriver to remove screw from the igniter pin and two screws o n th e rear o f the sear ing burner.

4. Lift the burner startin g from the back, as s ho wn.

7. Reinstall the two screws to the rear of the searin g burner. Reinstall the igniter pin.

Change the Side Burner Orifice

1. Remove the two screws from the brack et and rem o ve th e bracket.

2. Use a 6 mm socket and wrench or a 6 mm nut driver to remove the orifice and replace with the natural gas or ifice.

4. Reinstall the two thum b s crews.

5. Reconnect the quick connector.

IMPORTANT: Check that the NG orifice is properly installed inside of the valve.

3. Reinstall the two screws and the bracket.

6. Open the manual shutoff valve in the gas supply. The valve is open when the han dle is parallel to th e gas pipe.

7. Test all connections using an approved noncorrosive leak-detection solution. Bubbles will show a leak. Correct any leak found

Record Conversion

The LP appliance nam eplate is located i nsi de the g ri ll cabi net on the left-hand side. Once conver ted, place the NG applianc e nameplate over the current LP appliance nameplate.

In the last page of the Use and C are Gui de, write “Converted to Natural Gas”. Als o r ecor d the co nv ersion date and the technician/com pany that perf orm ed the conversi on .

Adjust High Flame Setting Screw

When converting fro m LP to Natural gas, you wil l need to adjust the high flame setting screw for ideal bu rner fl ame height.

1. Remove each control k nob fo r the main burners and sear burner

2. Use a flat-blade screwdriver t o tu rn th e hi gh fl ame setscrew counterclock wise approxim ate 90º.

3. Check that burner operat es at the new high fl am e settin g. It may be necessary to adjust the screw setting slightly more to get the ideal burner flame height.

4. Place the burner control kno bs back to their orig inal positions.

Check and Adjust the Burners

The burners are tested and factory-s et for most eff ici ent operation. However, variations in gas supply and other conditions may make minor adjustments to air shutter or low flame setting necess ary . It is recommended that a qualif ied person make burner adju stm ents. Checking and adjusting the grill burner flames requires removing the grates an d flame tamers.

6. If flame is yellow (not enough air), turn air shutter adjustment screw counterclo ckwis e. If flame is noisy or lifts away from burner (too much air), turn air shutter adjustment screw clockwise.

Burner Flame Characteristics

The flames of the grill burners and side burners (on some models) should be blue and stable with no excessive noise or lifting (LP gas flames will have a slightly yellow tip). A yellow flame indicates not enough air. If flame is noisy or lifts away from the burner, there is too much air. Some yellow tips on flames when the burner is set to HIGH setting are acceptabl e as long as no carbon or soot deposi ts appear. The f lames should be approximately

Check that burners are no t bl ock ed by d irt, debris , insect nests, etc., and clean as necessary . If they are clean, adju st air shutters as needed.

IMPORTANT: Before adjusting air shutters, let burners cool down completely.

To Adjust:

1. Light grill using information in the “Outdoor Grill Use” section.

2. Observe flame to determine which burners need adjustment and ho w the f lam e is actin g.

3. Turn off the valve and wait until grill and burners cool completely.

4. Remove grill gr ates and flame tamers.

5. Remove the 2 screws and cotter pin that h ol d the bu rner in place. Remove gas burner from the grill.

A. Air shutter adjustment screw

Adjustment should be made clockwise or counter clockwise from 3.2 mm / 1/8 in to 6.4 mm 1/4 in.

7. Replace gas burner, sear plates and grates.

8. Light grill using information in the “Outdoor Grill Use” section. See “Burner Flame Characteristi cs”.

Low Flame Adjustment

If flame goes o ut o n th e “L” setting , the low flame setting must be adjusted.

1. Turn off the valve and wait until grill and burners are cool.

2. Remove grill gr ates and flame tamers.

3. Light grill using information in the “Outdoor Grill Use” section.

4. Turn burner to its lowest setting.

5. Remove each control k nob fo r the main burners and si de burner by looseni ng the setscrew with the hex key.

6. Hold valve stem with pliers and insert a small flat-blade screwdriver into the shaft.

7. Watch the flame and sl owl y turn the screwdriv er counterclockwise.

8. Adjust flame to mi ni mu m stable flame.

9. Replace the control knob and turn off the burner.

10. Repeat steps 3 through 9 for each burner if needed.

11. Replace the flame tamers and grates after the burners have been cooled.
