Thecombinationlap-shoulderbeltis equippedwithalockingmechanism. Thesystemadjustsautomaticallytoa person’ssizeandmovementsaslong asthepullonthebeltisslow.
Hardbrakingoracollisionlocksthe belt.Thebeltwillalsolockwhen drivingupordownasteephillorina sharpcurve.
Tofastenthebelt:
1.Graspthebelttongue.
2.Pullbeltinacontinuousslow motionacrossyourchestandlap.
3.Insertbelttongueintobuckleon inboardsideofseat.
4.Pushdownuntilthetongueis securelylockedwithanaudible click.Pullbelttocheckforproper fastening.
°Pullshouldersectiontomake
surebelttssnuglyacrossthe chest.
°Theshoulderbeltmustbe
positionedovertheshoulder , itmustneverrestagainstthe neck.

Tounfastenthebelt:
Pushinthereleasebuttononthe buckle.Thebeltwillspringoutof thebuckle.
Toreleasealockedbelt,leanback totakethebodypressureoffof thebelt.
Tostorealap-shoulderbelt,allow thebelttowindupontheretractor byguidingthebelttongueuntilthe beltcomestoastop.
ProperSafetyBeltAdjustment
Yourcombinationlap-shoulderbelt mayneedadjustment.Adjustsafety beltsproperly.
Thelapbeltshouldbewornaslow andtightonthehipsaspossible. Makesureanyslackistakenup bythebeltmechanism.
Theshoulderbeltshouldtsnugly acrossyourbody.Itshould bepositionedmidwayoverthe shoulder(thatisnexttothedoor); itshouldneverrestagainstyour neck.

RestraintBeltsonpage1-13).
Failuretocomplymayresult inpersonalinjuryordeath.
WARNING:Donottwistthe beltintheprocessofputting iton.Atwistedbeltwillnot workaswelltoprotectyou. Inacrash,thefullwidthofthe beltwouldnotbeprotecting you.Atwistedbeltcouldcut intoyourbodyandcause injuries.Straightenthebelt beforebucklingit.Ifyou areunabletowearitwithout

Anyoneridinginyourvehicle shouldwearaseatbelt.A responsibleoperatorseestoit thateveryoneinthevehiclerides safelyandthatmeanswithaseat belt.
Donotstrapinmorethanone personwitheachbelt.
Donotwearabeltoverrigidor breakableobjectsinoronyour clothing,suchaseyeglasses, pens,keys,etc.,asthesemay causeinjuryinanaccident.
Severallayersofheavyclothing mayinterferewithproper positioningofbeltsandreduce theoveralleffectivenessofthe system.
Keepbeltbucklesfreeofany obstructionthatmayprevent securelocking.
Damagedorwornbeltsinthecab orsleeper,subjectedtoexcessive stretchforcesfromcrashes,cuts ortears,ornormalwear,mustbe replaced,theymaynotprotectyou ifyouhaveanaccident.
Ifbeltsshowdamagetoanypart ofassembly,suchaswebbing, bindings,bucklesorretractors, theymustbereplaced.
Donotallowsafetybeltsto becomedamagedbygetting caughtindoororseathardware, orrubbingagainstsharpobjects.
Thebeltsmustbekeptcleanorthe retractorsmaynotworkproperly.
Neverbleachordyeseatbelts: chemicalscanweakenthem.Do, however,keepthemcleanby followingthecarelabelonthe belts.Letthemdrycompletely beforeallowingthemtoretract.

Makesurethebeltofthe unoccupiedpassengerseatis fullywounduponitsretractor, sothatthebelttongueisinits stowedposition.Thisreducesthe possibilityofthetonguebecoming astrikingobjectincaseofa suddenstop.
Donotmodifyordisassemblethe seatbeltsinyourvehicle.They willnotbeavailabletokeepyou andyourpassengerssafe.
Ifanyseatbeltisnotworking properly,seeanauthorized KenworthDealerforrepairor replacement.
TetherBelts
Tetherbeltsareinstalledonsuspension seats.Theyhelpsecuretheseattothe oortorestrainitincaseofasudden stoporanaccident.
FixedTethers
IfyourKenworthT2000hasbeen equippedwithxedlengthtethers,no manualadjustmentisrequired.The sameinspectionandreplacement guidelinesshouldbeusedasstatedin
SafetyRestraintSystem-Inspection onpage5-56.
WARNING:Donotremove, modify,orreplacethetether beltsystemwithadifferent tethersystem.Afailedor missingtetherbeltcould allowtheseatbasetofully extendintheeventofan accident.Failuretocomply mayresultinpersonalinjury ordeath.
WARNING:Failuretoadjust tetherbeltsproperlycan causeexcessivemovement oftheseatinanaccident. Tetherbeltsshouldbe adjustedsothattheyaretaut

TetherAdjustment
Makesurethatthetetherbeltis attachedtothecaboorandseat frame.Itshouldberoutedthrough thebuckleoneachside.
Oftentheattachmentsaremade usingasplit-typehook.Makesure bothhalvesofthehookarearound theanchorbracket.
Tolengthenthetether,turnthe buckletoarightangletothe webbing.Thenpullthebuckle. Toshortenthetether,pullonthe strap.
SleeperRestraintSystem
ForKenworthT2000cabsequipped withasleeper,besuretousethe lowerbunkrestraintdevices.Your vehiclemayhavebeltswhicheither areoverthebunkorcovertheopening. Ofcourse,youdonotneedtouse arestraintifyousleepinaparked vehicle.Butanyoneusingthesleeper whilethetruckisinmotionshouldbe restrainedinasafetydevice.
WARNING:Besurethe restraintsystemisusedwhen anyoneisoccupyingthe sleeperwhilethevehicleis moving.Inanaccident,an unrestrainedpersonlyingina sleeperbunkcouldbeinjured orkilled.Heorshecouldbe thrownfromthebunk.
Besurenooneeverridesinthe
upperbunk.Thatpersonwould bethrownoutinanaccident andcouldbeinjured.

DuringPregnancy
Pregnantwomenshouldalwayswear combinationlap/shoulderbelts.The lapbeltportionmustbewornsnugly andaslowaspossibleacrossthe pelvis.T oavoidpressureonthe abdomen,thebeltmustneverpass overthewaist.Sometimespregnant womenworrythatinacrashtheseat beltcouldhurtthebaby .Butifa womanwearsherbeltproperly,low overherpelvis,belowherabdomen, thebeltwillnotharmthebaby ,evenin acrash.Andremember,thebestway tokeepanunbornbabysafeistokeep themothersafe.

Introduction
Thefollowingsectioncoversstart-up proceduresforgettingyourKenworth T2000readyfortheroad.
DoorLockandKeys
Doorscanbelockedfromtheinsideby usingthelockbutton.Closethedoor thenpushthebuttondowntolock. Doorsautomaticallyunlockwhenyou openthemfrominside,andcanbe lockedfromtheoutsidewiththekey only.
Asstandardequipment,twokeysare providedforthedoorsandignition. Whennecessary,additionallocks andkeysareprovidedforstorage compartments.

Ifyourvehiclemustberecovered, disconnectthedrivelineattherear U-joint,andremoveorsupportthe rearmostsectionofthedriveline. Thisisnecessarybecauseifthe transmissionisdrivenbythedriveshaft (rearwheelsontheground),no lubricantwillreachthegearsand
bearings,causingdamagetothe transmission.
CAUTION:Removethe drivelineandaxleshaftsor liftthedrivingwheelsoffthe groundbeforetowingthe vehicle.SeeDriverControlled
MainDifferentialLockon page4-68.Alllubricating
andclutchapplicationoil pressureisprovidedby anengine-drivenpump, whichwillnotworkwhen theengineisstopped.You couldseriouslydamageyour vehiclebytowingitwiththe drivelineconnectedandthe drivewheelsontheground.
Worse,whenvehiclesaretowed, eitherbywreckerorpiggyback,the lubricantinthetopfrontofthedrive axlewilldraintotherear.Thiswill leavethetopcomponentsdry.The resultingfrictionmaydamagethem.
