2011 KLX140

The Kawasaki KLX140 provides and ideal transition for riders stepping up from both the KLX110 and KLX110L to a larger machine.

The KLX140 with 17/14 inch wheel and tyres and robust suspension offers a wider choice for youthful riders to find the ideal model in the terms of rider’s size and weight.

The KLX140 models were developed in conjunction with engineers and test riders that produce Kawasaki’s championship-winning KX line. As a result, many of the components are derived from the KX line for a superior level of off-road fun, plus the KX design elements provide a racy continuity with the KLX140s’ siblings in the Kawasaki line-up.

144 cm³ 4-Stroke Engine

Air-cooled, single cylinder engine is simple to operate and maintain, with high reliability.

Combines easy-to-use low-end power with a top-end that revs out to approximately 10,500 rpm before hitting the rev limiter, which smoothly cuts power in the overrun for better control at high rpm.

Electric Starter

A keyless On/Off button located in front of the handlebars makes starting the KLX140 quick and easy.

An orange LED light is activated when the button is depressed to indicate that the power is on.

Digital CDI ignition ensures quick, reliable starting.

Kawasaki-Tuned 20mm Keihin Carburetor

Kawasaki engineers modified the standard Keihin PB20 carburetor to perform better during hard off-road use.

Partitions in the float chamber and a main jet umbrella help minimize fuel sloshing for a more constant fuel supply, which helps prevent engine bogging over rough terrain.

Dual air vents ensure a stable air supply when the bike is leaned at extreme angles.

Rubber float has a higher specific gravity than plastic to maintain more precise float level.

Spring-loaded needle valve stays centered in the needle jet for better fuel flow and durability.

Close-Ratio 5-Speed Transmission

Close gear ratios enhance the engine’s acceleration capabilities.

Gear change position lever features a ball bearing, just like the KX race models, for better shift action.

Folding shift lever helps prevent damage from trail impacts or mishaps.

Progressive Manual Clutch

A spring damper is utilized to provide two-stage clutch engagement that facilitates partial clutch use when riding at extremely low rpm or idling speeds.

Manual clutch allows riders to master full control of shifting

Box-Section Perimeter Frame

KX-based perimeter frame made of high-tensile steel increases off-road capabilities.

Flat footpeg/frame rail relationship provides area to grip the frame with one’s ankles for better control.

High-Level Suspension

Sturdy front and rear suspension complements the highly rigid frame.

Leading axle 33mm front forks have spring rates and damping settings specific for each KLX140 model.

Since the KLX140L is likely to be ridden harder, its rear shock features a piggyback reservoir, threaded preload, 4-way compression and 22-way rebound damping adjustments.

Both the shock body and reservoir are aluminum KLX140L only.

Aluminum swingarm is lightweight yet strong and utilizes KX racing-style chain adjusters for more precise adjustment of chain slack.

Petal Disc Brakes

Unlike most playbikes with disc/drum combination brakes, both KLX140 models feature disc brakes at the front and rear for a higher level of brake performance.

220mm front disc with large-bore, twin-piston caliper provides strong, easy-to-control braking. The 27mm pistons are the same size as those in the KX250F/450F front brake systems.

The rear brake master cylinder features a large unitised reservoir, just like the big KX models, for better brake performance.

186mm petal rear disc is gripped by a 27mm single piston caliper.

Petal disc design helps reduce unsprung weight while the wave shape helps clean the brake pads and increases cooling efficiency for more efficient braking performance

Race-Inspired Ergonomics

Rubber-mounted handlebar clamps reduce vibration transferred to the rider’s hands.

The handlebar clamps are separate from the upper triple clamp, making it easier to install aftermarket handlebars.

KX-style handlegrips with half-waffle design aid grip and rider control.

Dual-texture seat cover uses a slip-resistant top surface for added grip when seated and smooth sides for excellent mobility.
