Safety Precautions
Some Do’s and Don’ts on the Safe Use of Equipment
This equipment has been designed and manufactured to meet international safety standards but, like any electrical equipment, care must be taken if you are to obtain the best results and safety is to be assured.
DO read the operating instructions before you attempt to use
the equipment.
DO ensure that all electrical connections (including the mains
plug, extension leads and interconnections betweenpieces of equipment) are properly made and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Switch off and withdraw the mains plug when making or changing connections.
DO consult your dealer if you are ever in doubt about the
installation, operation or safety of your equipment. DO be careful with glass panels or doors on equipment. DON’T continue to operate the equipment if you are in any
doubt about it working normally, or if it is damaged in any way-switch off, withdraw the mains plug and consult your dealer.
DON’T remove any fixed cover as this may expose
dangerous voltages.
DON’T leave equipment switched on when it is unattended
unless it is specifically stated that it is designed for unattended operation or has a standby mode. Switch off using the switch on the equipment and make sure that your family knows how to do this. Special arrangements may need to be made for infirm or handicapped people.
DON’T use equipment such as personal stereos or radios so
that you are distracted from the requirements of road safety. It is illegal to watch television whilst driving.
DON’T listen to headphones at high volume, as such use
can permanently damage your hearing.
DON’T obstruct the ventilation of the equipment, for example
with curtains or soft furnishings. Overheating will cause damage and shorten the life of the equipment.
DON’T use makeshift stands and NEVER fix legs with wood
screws-to ensure complete safety always fit the manufacturer’s approved stand or legs with the fixings provided according to the instructions.
DON’T allow electrical equipment to be exposed to rain or
moisture.
ABOVE ALL...
- NEVER let anyone especially children push anything into
holes, slots or any other opening in the case-this could result in a fatal electrical shock;
- NEVER guess or take chances with electrical equipment of
any kind-it is better to be safe than sorry!
IMPORTANT: Connection to the mains supply in the United Kingdom.
DO NOT cut off the mains plug from this equipment.
If the plug fitted is not suitable for the power points in your home or the cable is too short to reach a power point, then obtain a proper safety approved extension lead/adapter or consult your dealer.
In the unlikely event of the plug fuse failing be sure to replace the fuse only with an identical approved type, as originally fitted, and to replace the fuse cover. If the fuse fails again consult your nearest JVC dealer.
If nonetheless the mains plug is cut off remove the fuse and dispose of the plug immediately, to avoid a possible shock hazard by inadvertent connection to the mains supply. If this product is not supplied fitted with a mains plug then follow the instructions given below: DO NOT make any connection to the Larger Terminal coded E or Green.
Blue to N (Neutral) or Black
Brown to L (Live) or Red
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: If these colours do not correspond with the terminal identifications of your plug, connect as follows: Blue wire to terminal coded N (Neutral) or coloured Black. Brown wire to terminal coded L (Live) or coloured Red.
If in doubt - consult a competent electrician.

Handling Discs

Do not touch the playback side of the disc. Hold the disc by the edges so that fingerprints do not get on the surface. Never stick paper or tape on the disc.

Storing Discs

After playing, store the disc in its case. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight or sources of heat and never leave it in a parked car exposed to direct sunlight.

Cleaning Discs

Fingerprints and dust on the disc can cause poor picture quality and sound distortion. Before playing, clean the disc with a clean cloth. Wipe the disc from the center out.

HDMI Connection

HDMI

About HDMI

HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) supports both video and audio on a single digital connection for an easy all- digital output to an HDMI or DI-equipped TV.
Connection to an HDMI TV requires an HDMI cable while connection to a DVI-equipped TV requires a DVI adapter besides a HDMI cable.
HDMI has the capability to support standard, enhanced, or high-definition video plus standard to multi-channel surround-sound audio, HDMI features include uncompressed digital video, a bandwidth of up to 5 gigabytes per second, one connector (instead of several cables and connector), and communication between the AV source and AV devices such as DTVs.
HDMI, the HDMI logo and High-Definition Multimedia Interface are trademarks or registered trademarks of HDMI licensing LLC.
If you have a HDMI TV or monitor, you can connect it to this DVD/CD Receiver using a HDMI cable.
1. Connect the HDMI OUT jack on the DVD/CD Receiver to the HDMI jack on a HDMI compatible TV or monitor (H).
2. Set the TV’s source to HDMI (refer to owner’s manual for TV).
Notes:
• The arrow on the cable connector body should face
down for correct alignment with the connector on the DVD/CD Receiver.
• If there is noise or there are lines
on the screen, please check the HDMI cable.
• Not all HDCP-compatible
DVI devices will work with this DVD/CD Receiver.
• If TV does not support HDCP, snow noise appears
on the screen, or picture may be vibrated.
If you play the multi-channel software such as Dolby Digital or DTS, only PCM signals can be output via an HDMI cable.

Setting the surround mode

[BYPASS] mode : Software with multichannel surround audio signals is played according to the way it was recorded.
[PL II MOVIE] mode: The Movie mode is for use with stereo television shows and all programs encoded in Dolby Surround. The result is enhanced soundfield directionality that approaches the quality of discrete 5.1-channel sound.
[PL II MUSIC] mode: The Music mode is for use with any stereo music recordings.
[PL II MATRIX] mode: The Matrix mode is the same as the Music mode except that the directional enhancement logic is turned off. It may be used to enhance mono signals by making them seem “larger.” The Matrix mode may also find use in auto systems, where the fluctuations from poor FM stereo reception can otherwise cause disturbing surround signals from a logic decoder. The ultimate “cure” for poor FM stereo reception may be simply to force the audio to mono.
Notes:
In some of surround modes, some speakers maybe
• no sound or low sound, it depends on the mode of surround and the source of audio, it is not defective.
•You may need resetting the surround mode, after switch the input, sometimes even after the sound track changed.
