Assembly Instructions For STS Models 9560, 9660 or 9760 Series Combines with 16”
auger, install additional tank brace before Step 1 (see insert). Step 1:
Attach both rear braces to combine hopper using (8) 3/8” x 1” Flange Bolts and (8) 3/8” Flange Nuts.
NOTE: The Rear Braces are not needed for 2006 and newer 9660, 9760 or 9860 STS Model combines.
Position the rear brace on top of the rear C-Channels of the combine and drill 3/8” holes in the combine hopper to attach these braces. NOTE: C-Channels are located under door hatch close to grain tank (door hatch may need to be slid back to install braces)
Step 2:
Place frame halves on combine hopper. Loosely fasten frame halves to existing brackets of combine hopper using (4) 5/16” x 1 1/2” Bolts, (8) 3/8” Heavy Washers and (4) 5/16” Flange Nuts. To prevent grain leakage, slide the Frame Shim between the frame and the tank to ensure a tight seal. For STS Models with 18” auger, place the four Clamp Plates below the hinges of the frame. Loosely secure the frame (and frame shim) either to the hinge or the adjacent tank bracket using 5/16” x 5/8” Flange Bolts and Flange Nuts. Do not tighten Clamp Plates to hinge as they may need repositioned to ensure a proper fit.
Combine Grain Tank Set-Up Instructions (Continued)
for John Deere STS Series Combines
Assembly Instructions (Continued) Step 3:
Fasten Tubing Rails (Note: Left Side Tubeing Rail has cut-outs on underside of tube) to frame halves using (4) 3/8” x 4” Bolts and (4) 3/8” Lock Nuts.
Step 4:
Center frame on combine hopper. Securely tighten the 5/16” x 1 1/2” bolts installed earlier. For STS models with 18” auger, secure the 5/16” x 5/8” Flange Bolts and Flange Nuts used on the Clamp Plates. Insert the 5/16” x 1 1/2” bolt through the Clamp Plate and secure to the combine tank.
Step 5:
Attach corner panels using (8) 3/8” x 4 1/2” Bolts and (8) 3/8” Lock Nuts.
Step 6:
Attach front and side panels using (8) 1/4” x 4 1/2” Bolts and (8) 1/4” Lock Nuts. (Note: The panel with the Danger decal should be installed as the rear panel.)
Step 7:
Push plastic plugs through plastic retainer lanyards and into existing holes from inside extension. Fold end of lanyard around lynch pin ring and snap into place.
Step 8:
Remove existing knock-outs for Sensor Mounting Bracket on right side panel. Remove existing sensor from current position. Install Sensor Mounting Bracket on right side panel using (2) 5/16” x 5/8” Flange Bolts and (2) 5/16” Flange Nuts. Bolt Sensor to Sensor Mounting Bracket and reconnect with Extension Cable provided.
Step 9:
Remove pins from existing handrail. Do NOT discard pins, they will be reused. Replace OEM handrails with the J&M handrail. Reinstall the pins.
Remove rubber bumper from OEM handrail and reinstall onto J&M handrail using 1/4” x 1 1/2” Drill Screw.
Step 10:
Remove knock-out on front panel and relocate existing light.
Step 11 (Optional):
For combines with the GPS option, remove the knock-outs on the Front Panel and install the GPS Bracket by aligning one of the four set of holes. Secure using (2) 5/16” x 5/8” Flange Bolts and Flange Nuts. To secure the bottom holes in the GPS Bracket, drill in the Front Panel and fasten using (2) 5/16” x 5/8” Flange Bolts and Flange Nuts. For combines with an old style GPS, bolt the GPS bracket adapter to the GPS Bracket using (2) 5/16” x 5/8” Flange Bolts and Flange Nuts.
Step 12:
On the grain tank extension rear panel, position the step approximately 8” from the lower side of the panel and directly above the step in the combine tank. Using the step as a template, mark and drill two 13/32” holes in the rear panel. Attach the step using (2) 3/8” x 1” Flange Bolts and Flange Nuts. NOTE: Be sure the step is positioned and mounted as shown.
Folding the Panels Step One:
Fold the side panels toward the middle of the combine hopper.
Step Two:
Fold the front and rear panels inward.
Step Three:
Fold the four corner panels.
