IMPORTANT SAFETY
INSTRUCTIONS
When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS DUST COLLECTOR.
WARNING – To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury:
1. Read and understand the entire owner's manual before attempting assembly or operation.
2. Read and understand the warnings posted on the machine and in this manual. Failure to comply with all of these warnings may cause serious injury.
3. Replace the warning labels if they become obscured or removed.
4. This dust collector is designed to collect metal dust and debris; do not use it for other than its intended use. If used for other purposes, JET disclaims any real or implied warranty and holds itself harmless from any injury that may result from that use.
5. Make certain the switch is in the OFF position before connecting the machine to the power supply.
6. Wear approved safety glasses/face shields while using and cleaning this machine. Everyday eyeglasses only have impact resistant lenses; they are not safety glasses.
7. Wear ear protectors (plugs or muffs) during extended periods of operation.
8. Make certain the machine is properly grounded.
9. Make all machine adjustments or maintenance with the machine unplugged from the power source.
10. Remove adjusting keys and wrenches. Form a habit of checking to see that keys and adjusting wrenches are removed from the machine before turning it on.
11. Keep safety guards in place at all times when the machine is in use. If removed for maintenance purposes, use extreme caution
and replace the guards immediately after completion of maintenance.
12. Check damaged parts. Before further use of the machine, a guard or other part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that it will operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, mounting and any other conditions that may affect its operation. 5.0 Electrical connections
All electrical connections
must be done by a qualified electrician in compliance with all relevant codes and ordinances. Failure to comply may result in serious injury.
The JDC-510 Dust Collector is rated at 230 volt, single phase only, and is provided with a 6-20P plug designed for use on a circuit with a grounded outlet that looks like the one pictured in Figure 5-1.
Before connecting to power source, be sure switch is in off position.
It is recommended that the JDC-510 be connected to a dedicated minimum 20 amp circuit with circuit breaker or time-delay fuse marked “D”. Local codes take precedence over recommendations.
5.1 GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
1. All Grounded, Cord-connected Tools:
In the event of a malfunction or breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This tool is equipped with an electric cord having an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into a matching outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
Do not modify the plug provided - if it will not fit the outlet, have the proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician.
Improper connection of the equipmentgrounding conductor can result in a risk of electric shock. The conductor with insulation having an outer surface that is green with or without yellow stripes is the equipmentgrounding conductor. If repair or replacement of the electric cord or plug is necessary, do not connect the equipment-grounding conductor to a live terminal.
Check with a qualified
electrician or service personnel if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if in doubt as to whether the tool is properly grounded. Failure to comply may cause serious or fatal injury.
Use only 3-wire extension cords that have 3prong grounding plugs and 3-pole receptacles that accept the tool's plug.
2. Grounded, cord-connected tools intended for use on a supply circuit having a nominal rating between 150 - 250 volts, inclusive:
This tool is intended for use on a circuit that has an outlet that looks like the one illustrated in D, Figure 5-1. The tool has a grounding plug that looks like the plug illustrated in D. Make sure the tool is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No adapter is available or should be used with this tool. If the tool must be reconnected for use on a different type of electric circuit, the reconnection should be made by qualified service personnel; and after reconnection, the tool should comply with all local codes and ordinances.
Figure 5-1
5.2 Extension cords
The use of extension cords is discouraged; try to position equipment within reach of the power receptacle. If an extension cord becomes necessary, be sure it is heavy enough to carry the current your product will draw. An undersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage resulting in loss of power and overheating.
Table 2 shows recommended size to use depending on cord length and nameplate ampere rating. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge. The smaller the gauge number, the heavier the cord.

Never mix ferrous and non-
ferrous metal dust in the same dust collector. Do not use this machine to collect wood dust.
Connect a hose from the metalworking machine to the port on the dust collector. Secure with a hose clamp (not provided).
If you are connecting the dust collector to a ductwork system, follow approved guidelines and safety measures for the ducting, and familiarize yourself with OSHA and NFPA regulations.
Always install the caps over ports not being used. This will promote more efficient suction, as well as maintain safety in the workshop.
Press the green button to start; red to stop.
NOTE: Do not use this dust collector with surface grinders.
Turn off, disconnect (unplug) the Dust Collector from the power source before cleaning or servicing.
Perform the following on a regular basis. Exact schedules are dependent upon frequency of use.
Remove the filter from inside the door, and
clean it with a vacuum or soft brush.
Remove and empty collection bag.
Remove and empty debris drawer; it should
not be allowed to exceed 1/3 full.
Vacuum the fan area on the motor to
maintain proper ventilation.
NOTE: Do NOT use compressed air when cleaning, as it may force debris into the motor or other working parts of the machine.
10.2 Additional servicing
Any additional servicing should be performed by authorized service personnel.
