This booklet contains instructions on how to install the LabelTaken Sensor Kit (LTS) on EasyCoder 401, EasyCoder 401 Linerless, EasyCoder 501, and EasyCoder 601 printers. Installation should preferably be performed by an authorized service technician.
For information on how to use the label-taken sensor, please refer to the Technical Manual for EasyCoder 401, EasyCoder 401 Linerless, EasyCoder 501, or EasyCoder 601 respectively.
The Label-Taken Sensor Kit consists of:
• One Reflecting Sensor assy. with cable and connector
• One Sensor Bracket
• One Screw
• This Installation Instructions booklet The only tools needed are #T10 and #T20 Torx screwdrivers and a
small non-conductive flat-tipped screwdriver.
Make a simple Fingerprint program that checks the status of the
LTS, e.g.:
10 BREAK 1,88 20 BREAK 1 ON 30 FORMFEED 40 IF (PRSTAT AND 2) THEN BEEP 50 GOT0 40 60 END RUN
You can break this program by transmitting the character X (ASCII 88) decimal on the standard serial interface "uart1:".

Preparation Before Installation
Note: Illustrations show an EasyCoder 501. The principles for fitting this optional equipment in an EasyCoder 401, EasyCoder 401 Linerless, or EasyCoder 601 printer are similar.
The label-taken sensor excludes the fitting of a paper cutter and vice versa.

Turn off the power. For double security, pull the power cord out
of the mains receptacle at the rear plate of the printer.
Open the right-hand door.Open the front hatch.Using a #T10 Torx screwdriver, remove the six or eight screws
that hold the left-hand cover (see illustration).
Remove the cover.Press the reflecting sensor assembly into the bracket as illustrated
below.

Slip the cable of the label-taken sensor through the hole in the
centre-line wall of the printer into the electronics compartment.
Connect the cable to P-606 on the CPU board, see below. In case
of an EasyCoder 401 Linerless printer, first remove the cable to the cutter interface connector already fitted on P-606. Be careful so the cables do not interfere with any moving parts.
Check that a strap is fitted on both pins of P-607

.
Insert the power cord and turn on the power.Adjust the sensitivity of the label-taken sensor by means of the
potentiometer WR-602 on the CPU board:
Start up Fingerprint and run the program described on page 1.
Leave the label in the outfeed slot to create a label-not-taken condition.
The printer should start to beep continuously. If not, turn the
potentiometer back and forth until the beeping starts.
Adjust the potentiometer so the beeping does not stop when
the screw is turned a quarter of a turn in either direction.
Remove the label. The beeping should cease immediately.
If necessary, readjust the potentiometer
2
.
Break the program by typing X on the host.
When the label-taken sensor works properly, put back the left-
hand cover and close the front hatch and right-hand door. Then the printer is ready for operation.
1
/. In EasyCoder 401 Linerless printers, the strap is usually fitted on just one of the pins of P-607. Move the strap so both pins become interconnected.
2
/. If adjustment by means of the potentiometer is not sufficient, a strap on P-607 on the CPU board allows the intensity of the LTS light-emitter to be changed: Strap fitted: High intensity (default) No strap: Low intensity
CAUTION!
High Voltage
The LTS must be adjusted with the power on. To avoid the risk of electrical shock or short-circuits, use nonconductive tools only. Keep your fingers away from the area behind the CPU board, where the mains inlet and switch are situated.
